An update for PSP-3000 users was just released with compatability for all current UMD releases & some new features also like M33 netwoek updating, fake MS speed up.

The main CFW release, 5.50 GEN-D3 should be out later today with the same features.

I take back what I said earlier, it looks like TEAM GEN is getting to grips with PSP CFW, trying to follow in the footsteps of the Dark AleX legacy.

It uses ChickHEN which requires 5.03 to run. Its not permanent (you have to reload it when the PSP gets shut off).

You still cannot replace the official Sony firmware with a CFW on the newer 2k and 3k systems.

At this point in time, the only thing I want is the newer PS1 emulator files since that's pretty much all I use my PSP for.

Hmmm, that feature list for 5.03 Hen-C bodes fairly well for the 5.50 Gen-D3 and the Gen team in general, IMHO.

so I'm coming from m33, just read the post above that you should go from gen d to d2. So even with d3 out, I still need to go gen d -> d2 -> then d3, correct?

Yeah, I'll be checking back in a day or two to see if anyone ended up with bricks, since I still haven't gotten myself another battery so I can turn my original into a Pandora >.>

I'm sorry to bother everyone but could someone please link me to whatever the latest SNES 9x TYL version is? I know there was a release in November, but I can't seem to find a working download link.

I went into the recovery menu to change some stuff and in the option for network update it still says NOT YET. Guess we'll only really know on the next update...

Well I can recommend playing them on your PSP now! Originally Lufia 1 froze occasionally on an old old old version of SNES9x on PSP, so I've tended to savestate it frantically ever since. But they're much much better now.

We should do a runthrough.

Okay, so I'm gonna wait a little bit before I make the jump into the brave new CFW world. I'm still rocking good ol' 5.00 M33-6 :lol

What's the upgrade path here? How do I get to 5.50 Gen D-3?

Anyone got a direct download of the new corrected firmware that doesnt downgrade back to D1 on phats please (how is this even possible :lol)? I can never navigate their site very well at all and can only assume it wants me to sign up.

So a quick download link mirror to the new proper one would be appreciated as I have been waiting so long I'll be a guinea pig :lol

Oh ffs, it resets all your settings (recovery menu stuff as well as all PSP stuff (system name etc) again. I wouldnt have thought that would be something too hard to get right >:|

And mine still says 5.50 GEN-D (Full) after downloading that newer one straight from their fucking site, but does load up newer game stuff. Team GEN are so god damn sloppy.

Even D_A M33 firmware updates would occasionally do this. PSP settings are notoriously easy to corrupt.

Its only ever happened to me with GEN releases. No PSN access either, but that was to be expected. Thats never coming back :(

Finally get to play all those new demos though!

I was talking to Mejilan, and it appears that the jump from 5.xx firmware to 6.xx firmware is akin to the jump from 1.5x firmware to 3.xx firmware. I dunno if you were around for that period of CFW history, but it was a similar problem to now. Jumping to 6.xx fimware would essentially break all existing homebrew, and that is why it's much easier for GEN to simply backport features instead.

I know you have a PS3, so it isn't a huge issue to simply transfer PSN stuff from your console to the PSP.

As long as I can keep playing UMD rips and PSN stuff, I'll be fine.

Does anyone use the app 'ereader'? Does it work on the new GEN-D CFW? I am still on 5.00 M33.

(It's an old app, I think. All menus are in Chinese. Reads .txt and .html with white text on black background, under clocks processor for increased battery life.)

I guess I'm going to refrain from updating past 5.00 M33-6, then. I don't own any encrypted games yet, all of the PS1 games I ripped work fine in POPS, and I never use PSN functions on PSP, so I'll hold off.

I do have to update my emulators/apps, though; all of them are the 1.5x kernel versions, and I know every application I currently use on PSP (PSPComic, Bookr, CPS1, CPS2, MVS/NeoGeo, Genesis, TG-16/PCE, NES, Cave Story) probably has a vastly-updated version that runs via the 3.x kernel. Is there anywhere I can find out what the most up-to-date/best versions of such apps are?

Hold off from updating because Yoshihiro has a version of IRSHELL that we don't?

Does this mean IRSHELL won't work with D3 as it is and Yoshirio has a fixed version to be released later (D3+?) or he has a fixed version of IRSHELL?

Man, get Bookr, it does all that and more and works butter smooth on Gen D!

Bleerrrrgh, knew it was too good to be true. Phantasy Star Portable 2 JP demo worked, Valkyria Chronicles 2 JP demo worked but the God Eater JP demo just gives me a black screen and locks up the PSP :(

You can if you want. As usual for GEN releases, there are some bugs.
PSP-1000, Pandora/Normal Battery option missing in VSH, Recovery Menu.
PSP-2000, M33 update missing.

As reported God Eater demo isn't working.

No problems for me, SNES9x works fine and I can finally play my copy of Phantasy Star Portable 2, which I thought would be delivered roughly the same date as D3 would be released, until they pushed it back. Instead it sat on my shelf for a week. I'm just glad to play that so I'm a happy camper.

D3 did reset all my settings, but thats not exactly a problem.

Well I'm pretty behind these days when it comes to the PSP, I'm still running 5.00m33-6 at the moment, and I figured I'd get caught up so I can actually do something on my long ride home from college.

Can anyone give me a roadmap to what I have to do? Is this correct?
5.00m33-6 -> 5.50GEN-D -> 5.50GEN-D2 -> 5.50GEN-D3

Also, any homebrew ideas? The only thing I have in mind right now is to update my snes9x emulator, and to be honest, I haven't come across many others that I've really enjoyed.

No. No apps, sections or so forth have been added to the firmware since...well m33 releases. Team-Gen releases only decrypt the latest protection on games and demos and try to retain/bring back all the old m33 features that have got lost in the shuffle.

Have other people reported God Eater not working or is it just me? I will be so pissed if the MGS:pW demo tomorrow doesn't work, but we'll be back in this waiting for decryption firmware soon enough anyway :/
