PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I can understand them wanting to get the newest firmware out to the people, but for God's sake at least make sure it's the actual update you want to give to people. What are we on now, D3-3? And a 4th on the way? WTF

It seems that I can go straight from 5.00 M33-6 to 5.50 GEN-D3-3.

At least that's what it says on that french website with the link for the new version.

By the way, I'm using the most current version on my PSP 3000, but for the last few firmware updates, I've been unable to use the older PSX games I originally converted for PSP (from my original CDs).

Anything I can do about this to make them work? What's the current method for ripping PSX games?

Ugh, I'll install this new one and reconfigure everything again. God Eater demo better fucking work with this one (bet it won't!)

Should probably just be grateful to get anything at all. At least they are still working on stuff. It's not like they're Sony and are obligated to have bug free releases. This is a small operation and stuff like this should be expected, lest they leave the scene as well.

Com'on man you're starting to sound like you're entitled to Custom Firmware fixes. Be grateful such a thing exists instead of complaining about nit-pick things like demos not working and confirugations being reset. I'm sure that this stuff is hard to do and these guys are doing the best that they can.

These people are getting paid nothing and doing this on their own time... I don't think I need to keep on going on what's wrong with your attitude, but I think you're making yourself look bad in this thread with the constant complaining about something that you do not directly contribute yourself to improving.

Its just a catch 22 situation. I have a PSP, I want to play all the latest stuff like I used to be able to. I am happy that I finally get to play PSP2 and the Valkyria demos, but I know we'll be back to square one again possibly even within the month. Reading "all demos work!" and then finding out thats not the case is kinda annoying. Plus this weird treble release and other clumsy stuff is just annoying. Yes theyre doing it for free, but I wish the previous better people still were.

Its obviously a lot easier for people with 2 PSP's as they don't give a shit and can switch between OFW and CFW at ease. I'd have to either give up all the enjoyments of CFW and go OFW or keep switching between firmwares using pandora every week which doesnt sound enticing, just to have access to stuff my hardware should have. I am now delaying buying games because I don't have access to some of their big features (LBP PSP sharing online, PSP2's online when it comes out). Its frustrating and this thread unfortunately gets my thoughts on the subject.

Your going to just have to live with it. The agressive anti-CFW measures now taken by Sony now means that CFW would have to be released every week to decrypt the newest PSP releases.
This is the best solution that we have at the moment.

Its never going to be like the "old" days when PSP releases would just play with no work from now on. Basically Sony are hoping to piss ass many CFW users off as possible and revert back to OFW for good & judging by your reaction that is very possible.

this may not be the right place to ask, but reading a couple post up made me remember. I've heard that Birth by Sleep is not going to get digital download release. meaning, no Kingdom Hearts for PSP Go. is that true?

I asked because the constant waiting for cfw is really getting into me that I want to get second psp just for ofw stuff. and I want to get PSP Go because I don't like having 2 similar looking device psp1000 and psp3000. if I have to buy a new psp, might as well buy psp Go because it looks different and I always like the look of PSP Go. but that'd be useless if I end up not able to get games I want on it in the future.

And I still am. But I almost NEVER update my CFW on day 1. This was true even during the Dark-Alex era.

And mine still says 5.50 GEN-D (Full) after downloading that newer one straight from their fucking site, but does load up newer game stuff. Team GEN are so god damn sloppy.

M33 updates would occasionally wipe out my settings. No different for me with Gen.

Strange... I can get some of the newer games working, but I can't get the Valkyria Chronicles 2 demo working.

Ugh... Let's download the new GEN-D3 version and see if this works.

ok. i've finally decided to update from m33-6. 2 questions before i do though

1. is this the FINAL version of D3? or is there a risk it'll knack my PSP?
2. can i go straight from m33-6 to D3?

i'm kinda glad other people or getting on secret bonus point's case. all the pining for the good ol' days kinda makes this thread hard to read. if you don't like the current situation, do something. offer your help. learn to hack. hacking sony's stuff is no easy thing to do. if not, then just sit patiently and let the guys do their thing. it's getting more and more like if you want the best of both worlds, then you gotta have separate psp's. until we get another breakthrough like the jump out of the 1.5 stuff.

It's true, I just did it myself. I went straight from 5.00m33-6 to 5.50GEN-D3.

Anyways, is anyone here running DGEN (the Genesis emulator)? It refuses to start for me, yet every other piece of homebrew I've installed works fine.

I use Pico Drive for my Genesis/Sega CD emu needs, and it boots up fine on GEN-D3.

So I was gonna try and upgrade to D3 but the other week for shits and giggles, I tried to flash back to OFW and it said I was up to date and wouldn't let me =(

Anyone know why this is? ...I'm running D2 btw

The Nub on my Phatty just broke (not able to use a replacement nub) and I was considering asking for the new Go as a gift for christmas. is it worth it, can I use CFW on it yet.

You can use your PS3 to download PSP games, demos or if you don't have a PS3, you can download a Sony program called Media Go.

So, did the *final* update this afternoon. Kenka Bancho now works properly from the memory stick, but it broke Persona. I can put Persona's UMD in, and it works fine, can load my save and play as normal, but when I try it from the memory stick, it soft locks after the intro movie. Tried disabling game plug-ins, to no avail. Any help here, or am I waiting on another form of update (or worse, playing the game from UMD, complete with slow loading and annoying disc access sounds)?

finally updated to gen D3

i'm assuming i need to install media go to get access to PSN. can i just download it from the official site? and how do i get access to PSN once i have it?

Game works fine from the UMD, it's just the rip that's not playing nice.

EDIT: I take that back. Various things that one can do in Kenka Bancho cause the system to shut down entirely (some menu choices). I guess I'm finding myself on the minority side of games tested ; ;.

Oh, well. I'll be content with an updated firmware for the time being. If I'm lucky, they'll find it in their hearts to continue testing, and perhaps have a more complete list of fully-functioning games from the stick in the next revision. In the meantime, I'll just have to stick with playing the games from the UMDs.

Well, shit. If it breaks Persona, it isn't exactly worth updating from B to D3 for Peace Walker yet.

I kinda wish these updates would update the POPS for my PSN bought PSX games. *sigh*

I just tried my rip of Persona and I'm having the same problem. The intro works fine, but it just hangs afterward. I don't feel like digging for my UMD at the moment, so I'll take your word for it that the UMD is functional. It's a shame, especially when considering that Persona does have some pretty frequent load-times that are cut-down considerably when being run from the Mem Stick.

Although, could it be that patched versions of the rip don't work for whatever reason? At this point, I have to wonder if GEN-D3 broke other older title rips or if this is just Persona acting bad.

Didn't have my PSP for quite some time, upgraded from 500 m3 to .50 D3 and well, I should have checked if my volume was working before the fw update but I guess whoever borrowed my PSP dropped it since the volume controls are fucked up to the point where it it doesn't work.

I think I'll have to do that remap thing and hope it works.

Check some of the volume and sound options in the System menu. I thought the volume was screwed up after updating to GEN as well, but it turned out that GEN just had some... peculiar volume and sound options turned on.

Crap. Would not have updated if I had known it broke Persona. Just tried it, same problem...

Damn it, FF VIII better be worth it (I've been trying to rip my own copy but never got it working)

Yeah, that's what I checked as well.

I fixed it with the button remap, no problems...yet.
