PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I just tried my rip of Persona and I'm having the same problem. The intro works fine, but it just hangs afterward. I don't feel like digging for my UMD at the moment, so I'll take your word for it that the UMD is functional. It's a shame, especially when considering that Persona does have some pretty frequent load-times that are cut-down considerably when being run from the Mem Stick.

Although, could it be that patched versions of the rip don't work for whatever reason? At this point, I have to wonder if GEN-D3 broke other older title rips or if this is just Persona acting bad.

I tried Persona both with the GameDecrypt ISO I made back in September, and the RAW I re-ripped just this evening, both the same problem. I can't vouch for the entire game working fine from UMD, but I did load it up, walk around a bit, get in and win a fight, so that much at least worked. I can't help but agree that there might be other games that are similarly influenced.

Has anyone tested the compatibility of FF8 with the CFW.

MGS PSN had the same audio skips that the user converted copy would until 5.50 was released.

If FF8 requires OFW 6.xx or higher to work properly, I'm going to be ticked.

Hrm, I went from CFW to OFW to play a game and now I want to go back to CFW but can't seem to get it work, I think I made the MMS correct and I tossed my Pandora battery in like before, hold L and start it up but no dice. I wonder if my Datel TOOL thing doesn't work anymore.

Anyway have any ideas? I'm on OFW 6.00 at the moment.

Edit: Nevermind, I just made a new pandora using my slim battery instead. Still have my big fat one though so good for me!

FF8 PSN still has freezing issues (just locked up on me when casting scan), so the only way its going to ever work 100% is either a 6.xx CFW or an update to popsloader for the 6.xx files.

Oh what the fuck. Seriously? I thought the games and PSN releases came with their own updated popsloader built in. This fucking sucks, I was going to get it for Christmas break :(

No, the emulator is build into the PSP firmware itself.

Other then that lockup, the game was working fine. There wasn't any lag in battles (which has happened in the past) and I didn't get any lockups on any of the FMVs.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened. When MGS PSN was released, it wouldn't run on 5.00 M33 (the audio would totally go out of sync). You had to update to 5.50 (the OFW it required to run).

Sadly, it doesn't surprise me that it locked up.

What the hell. When I try to run the updater, whether it's B2 OR D3, I just get a black screen. I have the .pbp in the root.
I'm having the same issue going from Gen B to Gen D2. I tried disabling plugins and resetting my theme to no avail.

Me too. Plugins are disabled, all the settings are default, driver is M33 and the battery is full. I don't get it.

EDIT: Got it. I guess the B-2 installer I was running sucked or something. The "quick installer" worked, and then D-3 went fine.

I just upgraded to Gen-D3 from Gen-A and now my FFtactics psp (actual psp game, not the psone version) save doesnt work. It says that it may be corrupted when I try to load it up.

Is this a custom firmware problem where I can just revert back to old firmware and it will work or does it mean the save is really corrupted and I can't play it anymore?

The rip I was using of Dino Crisis was still freezing up on me on GEN-D3, so I ended up just buying the game off PSN and it hasn't frozen up on me yet.

Does anyone know if RE3 is the same way? I may just get it and RE2 and forget about ripping my own versions; they're only $5.99 apiece anyway.

They lock up on B for me. I don't know about D3. But unless they're adding the newest POPS (doubtful) they're going to be the same.

Dino Crisis works for the most part UNLESS YOU EQUIP A SHOTGUN/G. Launcher in B.

Another thing is that I can't seem to get CWCheat to work with PSOne games. Am I missing a plug-in?

Is CWCheat enabled in the pops. It's one of the options in the VSHMenu, enabling and disabling plug-ins. It's cwcheatpops.prx or something like that.

Old question myself that I kind of know the answer to but I'm lazy. But I expected that sultry vixen Mejilan to have had the answer in the OP (if the answer is there, then I fail at reading).

Where is that list that has serial numbers and such to tell (or narrow down) which 2000's are hackable? Does anyone have the link? TIA

That should work.

Have Team-GEN ever said about hacking out the latest POPS versions at all? Missing out on FF8 has hit me a lot worse than not being able to play the free demo's.

I thought that some 3000 models with FW5.03 or below were hackable.

Every PSP with 5.03 firwmare is partially hackeable. That firmware has a exploit that allows you to load a diminute instance of CFW on memory. If you turn your PSP off, the CFW is gone. That version is not as updated as the current PSP2000 and PSPFat firmwares, but Team Gen started to release updates for it not too long ago.

Theres no way (afaik) to tell from the box.

Just in case anyone else ran into this problem, turns out that when I went back to m33 firmware which I'm pretty sure is what I originally played it on, the saves worked again.

Does GEN D work with Ad-Hoc party?

... All CFW works with Ad-hoc party, why the fuck wouldn't it?

"B-b-but PSN AND YOU'RE USING IT T--"

Ad-hoc tunneling. Responds to the Ad-hoc standard. Sony would have mucho to answer to if they tried to get an ad-hoc wifi firmware check in ad-hoc party.

There's a fix for Dino Crisis... I can't remember precisely but it involves changing the GAMEID to, I believe, the Euro version's ID, and using a specific POPS version. I played it successfully a while back... even using the shotgun.

So you can't play the FF8 that's on PSN?

Yes, it's enabled, but I get nothing.

I just went from 3.90 M33 to 5.50 GEN-D3. Been out of the loop so long. I know you can't access PSN with CFW, but can you play PSN games bought off the store? My main thing is that Beaterator is $20 now, and I know Rockstar has some online music uploading thing. Wondering if I need Official Sony FW or what.

I don't know why people say cfw can't use psn. I haven't done it recently since ffviii can't be played on cfw right now but I was able to connect and purchase and download Suikoden and Wild Arms along with a bunch of demos. This was awhile ago before 6.00 but not too long ago.

Because since Firmware 6.00 PSN requires you to have the latest firmware to access the store, and firmware 6.xx isn't decrypted yet?

Apparently it has the same lock-ups and crashes that a Pops ISO I can rip from my own copy would have. I had previously thought each PSN PS1 release came with it's own inbuilt Pops version, but it must run off firmware that GEN haven't ever updated :(

Well I was seeing it before 6.00 was released as well. Like I said I haven't had any real reason to hop on PSN for quite some time via my PSP though.

Maybe you shouldn't post 2 month old information as fact then?

So far Gen D3 has corrupted my saves for the following UMDs:

Puzzle Quest
Metal Gear Portable Ops
Lumines II
Jeanne D'Arc

It doesn't recognize my Metal Gear Ac!d 2 save, either. It just says "No Data" when I try loading it.

:/

So, at this point, I'd like to try rolling back my CFW to Gen-B, since the game I want to play right now worked perfectly fine on it. Will I need to use a Pandora battery to start low and work back up, or can I just grab an older CFW updater and use it?

I'm well aware of how this works. As a matter of fact, I've installed CFW 5.03GEN to a friend's PSP-2000, which -unfortunately for him- happened to have a TA-088v3 mobo.

What I need to know is whether there is actually a way to tell if a PSP-3000 runs on OFW 5.03 or below (thus hackable) just by looking at the box code. If it's not possible like you said, then I'm pretty much screwed and stuck with my old fat PSP forever. :(

The only way you MIGHT is if you find a store with stock that hasn't changed and get:

a) an early 3000 model pack with a known lower FW like Ratchet and Clank
b) a standalone system that hasn't moved in forever

I managed to get "b" and my 3000 came with 5.01 or 5.02 (can't remember which). I then tossed 5.03 on it and went to town.

Alright well I just downloaded the PSNabler 4 and tried it using my LittleBigPlanet UMD rip and... it told me that I needed to update my version of LBP at the "updating center"... huh? But it seemed to go through all of the steps like it was going to work when it hit me with this message. I'm thinking that this PSNabler does work.

Damn I'm on vacation right now, do I have to have the UMD on me to update to the latest version or how do I go about doing that...?

EDIT: apparently I just read online that you need to press Triangle on the XMB of the UMD and click update game. Since I don't have my UMD on me and I only have the ISO rip on my PSP I guess I can't update the game then to test this app. :(

Mejilan linked version 4 of the application, but they're on V5 of the application which DOES support Pixeljunk Monsters which I can confirm WORKS!

Just got online with PJM, but I couldn't figure out how to get a game started. Once a room is created it looks you play with a parnter in the room and you compete with others in the room to see who can get the highest score on the stage. That's what it looks like anyways, but I couldn't get a partner to play with because they were already in a game it looked like.

Anyways, yeah it works and I'm sure LBP would work too... but damn I left my UMD at home and can't update the game first! :(
