PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Now that it can actually pretty much play everything, the Go is the best handheld out there.
This is the truth.

The Go's size alone makes it the superior handheld. I also own a PSP-2000 and two PSP-1000's and they seem stupidly large by comparison. The PSP-Go and the GBMicro are the only two handheld consoles that can truly disappear into your pocket. Sure, you can pocket a 3DS (I'm doing so now) but you can always feel the weight of that brick. The Go and the Micro just vanish into any outfit.

I understand why GAF decided to hate the Go, but everything that was wrong with it is fixed by TN-D. It's practically perfect now.

Except for the fact that anything it does, the PSP-1000/2000/3000 can do as well.
Devil is in the details IMO:
-Suspend mode
-BlueTooth (DS3, heaphones, teethering...)
-Best screen
-Best formfactor
-Arguably best build quality (PSP1k comparable)

Lastly, while not a feature many will care about
- Slide-out/slide-in "turnon/sleep" functionality (like the DS). I prefer that over the button for some reason.

There are exclusive negatives too (like the weird charge/video/usb port), but IMO positives outweigh them.

Sorry if this question has been asked already but this thread is huge. xD

Anywhos I wanted to download PSP Custom Firmware 6.37 ME v7 off the psp-hacks site. I think currently my psp is Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-D3. I will have to confirm when I get homes.

I can't emulate anymore or play any of the latest stuff so I wanted to update. Do I need a pandora battery and Magic Stick to do this?, or can I just download the files and update following some steps etc?

I just pre-ordered Final Fantasy IV The Complete Collection so i want to be set to play when it arrives on April 22. Otherwise I will just get a new psp.

I blame Ephemeris for leaving town so he is not around to help. Also for setting up my psp last year to play grand turismo 5 without telling me it would break my emulation O_O.... Yea Bro what up with that xD.

No seriously though this is my first time trying it on my own so any help would be appreciated : D.

Edit: I am running 5.50 Gen-B Full.

Install Promethius v4, that should improve your compability. I use it and I'm able to run Ys Chronicles and 3rd Birthday via memory card perfectly fine.

The 6.35 and 6.37 ME firmwares are really buggy and have given me nothing but issues every time I've tried to use them.

If you do decide to install one of them, all you need is the 6.35 or 6.37 eboot update and the installer. Rename the official update to 635.pbp or 637.pbp and put it on your root of your memory card. Put the ME update in the UPDATE folder and then run the 6.35 or 6.37 update from your PSP.

Also, if you do get them running and have no problems, let me know. I'm still interested in upgrading, but I want to see if anybody has issues.

Anyone know what FW Tactics Ogre is using (PSN version) and Final Fantasy IV?

Trying to decide which one I can actually play on my 6.35PRO-D

Thanks!

Yea, I figured it out myself friday and upgraded to 6.35 Pro B4. So far it seems fine, and was much simpler to install then I thought xD lol YAY!. I am happy, I guess the real test is if it will run the game when it comes out on April 22. o_O I don't really have anything to test it up against at the moment.

I am pleased though, with 5.50 Gen B full it broke all my emulations. Now with my latest upgrade all my emulations work again as well as stuff I downloaded from psn. I haven't used it as much but it seems to be working fine and doesn't seem very buggy as of yet.

Thanks for responding much appreciation :D

I have a question, I want to revert back to official firmware and I've followed instructions online on how to do it but the PSP says that it is already running the latest version when I try to update.

I can't use the official system updater either and can't connect to PSN. I really just want to play God Eater, the umd won't work if I purchase a physical copy and am running custom firmware right?

Check your PM's, I sent you one on how to fix it.

For anyone else who's having this issue, here's what I send him

Follow these steps

1) Go to recovery console (hold R while the system boots)

2) Under configuration enable Version.txt

3) Now go to advance and access Flash 0 (be careful as flash 0 is the internal PSP flash)

4)search for version.txt

This is what the file should look like

release:5.00:
build:2740,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:46876@release_500,0x05000010:
vsh:p6264@release_500,v46652@release_500,20081010:
target:1:WorldWide

(this was what I posted to get FF7 to work back on page 107, but its the same for reverting back to OFW). Just copy the above and replace your version.txt with it. Make a backup of your old version.txt before hand just to be safe though. Also, don't mess around with anything else in flash 0 as you can hose your PSP that way.

What's happening is your version.txt file is set to something like 9.90. When you try to install OFW, its at a lower requirement and won't work. You might have to enable hidden files and hidden system files for them to show up.

Once you replace the 9.90 with 5.00 or 5.50 (actally anything lower then 6.37), your system should update just fine.

While I have a Go and love it, there's ONE major issue that is nagging me with it - the controls.

The Go has shitty controls - the d-pad is merely ok, the stick is shitty, the buttons are too small and clicky and the L/R buttons are complete shit.

Playing Dissidia on a Go is a nightmare :(

I have the complete opposite experience.

i completely disagree. the buttons on the go are much better than PSP1-3000 buttons.

I thought the buttons and stick were better, except the L/R buttons, which I think sucks.

I'm used to the L/R now, but when I first played it, it was so annoying.

The plus side is, you can use a PS3 controller if you really hate the PSP's controls.

Thanks :D Will check it out.
It doesn't work :(
I get two errors depending on where I place the folders (I currently have 3 copies of the folders in different places). 80020148 and 8002014C. I've tried changing from 5xx kernel to 1.50 and disabled all plugins with no effect. The Readme says that only 1.50 is supported but that Readme is from 2006. Still true?

I think for general use it's fine, but when I play something like Dissidia it just becomes a complete nightmare (the game relies on L/R so much..)

It sucks now because it seems I have to hack my Go - I didn't want to do it but I don't have a choice as it seems SRW Z2 won't release on PSN. :(

Is there any fear in going onlike via a PSP while it's running custom firmware? I know it's not exactly safe over on the PS3 side, but unsure how that works here. As I said before, trying to run a PSN-purchased copy of Phantasy Star Portable 2, and am now running 6.35 PRO "B".

I did the initial connection just fine, and then I suddenly thought, "Oh crap, maybe I shouldn't be doing this." *laughs*

That's nice to know!
I got it as a birthday present [along with a few other DS and PSP games :)]

My Go is on Pro-B3 and my PSP2000 says "5.50 Prome-3".... are those the latest releases for each firmware/console?

Upgraded from 5.50 Pro-4 to 6.35 Pro-B2 and now all my saves appear as corrupted? How can I fix this?
I had the exact same problem when I upgraded. Unfortunately, I think you're just screwed. :/

Copy pasta solution from somewhere:
Well, if you access your Recovery Menu you can change the ISO Driver (the way ISOs are handled being booted) to NP9660, Inferno, or M33. NP9660 bypasses the corrupt data issue depending on how that game was saved on which CFW.

You can just download MagicSave (version 3.5) and fix your games rather though. That's what I do.

How to effectively use MagicSave:
enable the plugin, you should know how to do this, don't ask me.
Press VOL UP and DOWN buttons during a game, navigate into Save Data and click "Read Invalid Data", exit the Magic Save menu and attempt to load the Save data. If it works, immediately save over it.

If it doesn't, try booting the game up with different ISO Drivers.

I have a PSP3000 with 6.35 Pro-B4 quick recovery, and tried to use version.txt to run my Pix 'n Love Minis (original, bought in my PS3). It needs 6.37, and version.txt doesn't seem to work here.

Back in the time version.txt runned ok in my old PSP1000 for other games. Anyone knows if version.txt really works in 6.35 Pro-B4? If it works, someone runned a 6.37 game using it?

BTW this is my txt:

release:6.37:
build:4884,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:57081@release_637,0x06030710:
vsh:p6598@release_637,v58248@release_637,20110118:
target:1:WorldWide

Something I hated from PSP is not being able to run some games I purchased unless updating to the last OFW. I want the 4th level of brightness, the overclocking, some homebrew and to be able to run my UMD games from the MS.

It would be cool to see these features in OFW. Then I wouldn't need CFW.

I have a few questions about cfw as I haven't been paying attention to it for years.
My psp 2000 is on the end of its life and I'm thinking of picking up a psp go, am I able to put similar cfw(i can shut it off and its still there) on a go?

Will my backups(mostly isos and a few cso) work for it?
Will my component to tv cables I have for my psp 2000 work with the Go?
Is it hard to transfer licenses/games from a ps3 to a psp go like it is with a 360?

Thanks.

Is there a way with 6.35 HEN (not PRO) to remove DRMs from the PS1 classics I bought on PSN ?
I just want not to have to switch accounts every time. I'm not really interested in PRO CFW because I'm afraid that saves made with CFW don't work anymore with new OFW/CFW. It crashed often on my PSP last time I tried it too :/ (the last PRO version)

So is TN-E permanent like CFW was on the Phat or do you have to gamesave every time like the last homebrew enablers?

*edit* Also, can I downgrade a 6.37 OFW Go?

So, I have a 04g PSP 3000 model that cannot be downgraded.

I was looking to tinker with save game files to see if I could apply cwcheats to existing ones. Honestly not sure if I can do this now.. any advice, guys? If not, anywhere around where I might request someone to do it for me?

if there a homebrew media player for PSP where I can just play any avi file without the need for conversion, just simple drag and drop to the memory card.

I've gone on-line with my PSP to download some PS1 games and I really think Sony just doesn't care about the PSP. The PS3 is their main focus right now. I think they view the PSP as being to out of control at this point and its just not worth the time and effort with it quickly closing out its life.

If the NGP gets hacked like the PSP was, then I think Sony will come down with an iron fist.

Something odd happened last night with the Game Categories plug-in while I was updating my PSP2000 from Prome-3 to 4.

After updating to Prome-4, all the games icons in the Game category (X:\ISO\CAT_Games) became just standard PS gray icons [each one with its corresponding name, though].
When trying to start them all I got was a blank screen, so I had to turn the console off.

I disabled the Game Categories plugin and 3 broken icons with the legend "Corrupted data" appeared.

I enabled it again but then I got a "There are no games" message in the Game section of the XMB.

The weird thing is: everything else worked just fine [emulators, apps, etc] in their respective category.

I spent 2 hours looking for a solution on Google. No luck! [Apparently Rock Band erases the Game folder... who knew?]

I was going to give up and ask here tomorrow [today] and it occurred me: maybe the problem is just the name of the category. Changed the category name and still got the same no game message.

Then I thought: what if I don't use a category in/for the ISO folder (just the files on X:\ISO instead of X:\ISO\CAT_Games)

That's what I did and BINGO!

The games appeared again, although on an "Uncategorized" section of the XMB.
If I create a category inside the ISO again, the issue reappears and all starts from square one once more (and everything can be repeated exactly as I described).

So... anyone who uses the Game Categories plug-in has had the same problem? When I was in Prome-3, eveything worked normally and without any issues, so I am guessing there is something specific about Prome-4 and the ISO folder, maybe?

hey guys. i'm totally new to the cfw stuff. i'm buying a psp go tonight. i have a few noob questions:

1) how long will it take me to get a cfw on my psp go? is it a long process?
2) is it hard to do?
3) if i have a cfw, can i still connect to ps store and buy games? what are the boundaries and restrictions laid upon me that i should be aware of?
4) what CFW should i be putting on it?
