PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I haven't checked in a while, but what are the good SNES emulators for the PRO-B or TN-D? I've had compatibility problems in the past... But now, many new versions of both have been released, so yeah...

6.38 ME. It's only for 1000, and 2000 with the original motherboard.
There's also a 6.20 PRO-B that's a permanent firmware. I have it on my PSP Go. Works well.

My Dissidia 012 DLC from the legacy edition and T3B doesn't work with the ISO I made from the UMD. The game becomes really sloooooow when there is a DLC file on my Memory Stick (and freezes on the title screen). If I load the game through the UMD, the games load fine.
Any workarounds ?

It's not really a big deal since it's free DLC that comes with the games I bought, but it would be nice if I could try it at least :)

I'm not sure about this, but isn't it related to the fact that ISO mode reads the memory stick in a different way that official PSN games ? Because the ISO "emulates" UMD instead of strictly loading from the MS. I may be wrong though.

Cool, going from one barely used format to another instead of a popular one. Why sony?

The advantage of that is that you can pick up M2s for bomba prices (in the UK at least). It complements the Go well. I now have 29gb of space (since 16gb = 14.5gb when you cut out marketing bs).

Has anyone here bought a plastic hand grip holder for their PSP Go? Something like this. It's only $5 shipped, sort of shaped like a 360 controller and probably alleviates any cramps you might get if you have large hands and play for extended periods.

SNES Euphoria r5 beta 3 is what I use.

Just got a PSPGo at Sam's Club for $74 tonight (dragged my best friend with me to use her membership!! I did buy her dinner afterwards).

Suppose I'll read through this thread, since with PSN down I doubt I'll have much else to do with the thing in the meantime. I've got plenty of PS1 classics on my PSN account that I want to load on here, but if I can rip my own PS1 ISOs from my SE discs, that would be great!

You need to go on the Sams Club website, search for the locations near you and search at each specific store in your area to see what their prices are for the PSPGo's (listed as the "club" price as opposed to the "online" price). Some locations have no discount on either color, some have discounts on both, some have discounts on only one, and if they do have discounts they vary in extent, some are selling some Go's for $50 or so, others (like the one near me) had it for $74. Even then, just because it's listed on the website doesn't mean it's in stock so you'll have to go in person and see or call (if they're willing to check the cage at the front for you over the phone).

For instance, the store I went to tonight had three white PSPGo's at $168 (still not too shabby I suppose), and I got the last black PSPGo for $74. I figure, even if I'm completely sold on getting an NGP at launch when it comes around, I'm likely to get near that amount back in a trade-in deal somewhere or just selling it.

I'm inexperienced in all this... perhaps someone can help, or at least point me in the right direction to the best place to get more information or a walkthrough. I just bought a PSP Go and am looking to get custom firmware going on it. The main things I want to do are rip my existing UMD games to play on the Go, rip my old PS1 games to play on the Go, and preferably still be able to log on PSN with my account (is that possible on CFW?).

When it comes to CFW for the PSP Go, it seems like there are some different options out there. I don't need a lot of special features, just what I described above. What do people mean when they talk about a "permanent" CFW? I just want whatever is simplest to install and is easy to use. Suggestions on what I should go with?

What I already have is a launch day PSP1000 unit. A long time ago I installed CFW on it, it's currently running "3.71 M33-2". I'm under the impression that I need to update that to a more recent CFW to rip my UMDs - how would I go about doing this?

Thanks for any help, it's most appreciated. Discussing CFW here is a bit of a gray area to me - hopefully I'm not asking for anything bad. I just want to enjoy games I've already purchased in the past on my PSP Go.

I have a PSP2000 that I haven't touched in years. Just wondering where the scene is at right now. I'm kind of lost as to where to start. My custom firmware is 3.71 M33-2, which I got quite a while ago.

Thanks for any help.

Oh God. My PSPgo came, and joy of joys it came with a 4GB M2 stick already inside of it!

...But no USB cable. And it uses a proprietary connection. Now I have to hunt down a shitty USB cable that can only be used with the PSP. :(

Exact same firmware my old PSP is on, and the more websites and guides I try and read the more lost I get.

So my new PSPGo has 5.70 on it. What's the latest OFW I should update to if I still want to keep CFW an option? I'd like to play some rather recent games (FFIV:CC for one).

Get firmware 6.20 and the latest TN.

6.35 is the latest you can go. I'd recommend staying at 6.20 though.

For both of you, update to official firmware 6.20 and put TN or PRO-B on your memory stick -- I personally recommend TN.

"Stupid question I could probably Google myself", but . . . are TN and PRO-B perma CFWs or the kind you put on the stick and boot into when you want from the XMB?

TN-E is one that you need to run every time you shut off your psp. It's temporary.

6.xx Pro B is a perma CFW like the old CFW such as GEN and m33.

Both. TN-D has a permapatch, E does not. I prefer the boot from the XMB method. I rarely ever really turn the system off anyway, and it removes any risk of bricking your PSP.

I decided to spend some time to find a new Kernel Exploit. This is the result after one week. It is not going to be released, ’cause there’s no ISO-Loader integrated, so you guys are probably not content with it.

What a brat. He's throwing a fit because people prefer Pro to TN HENs.

Just checked my local sam's club and they were wanting $168 (Damn I miss the old lol smilie :( )

Oh well, I'd have grabbed it for sure at $74.

He's 15 years old and the only one coming up with new exploits. Give him a break. I'm sure he doesn't want to be in the same situation as geohot.

OK. Seems I wouldn't be able to play FFIV with 6.20 (seems to force an update to 6.38), but I can live with that while I just play around with CFW I suppose. Anyone have a link to where I can download older firmware files (specifically 6.20) for the Go? I see lots of links through Google, but not sure about any of them.

if you google "PSP 6.20 OFW" you should find it easily. I don't know if we're allowed to mention specific sites.

There's a link. It's a little tricky to find since 6.20 has a separate ofw for Go and non-Go models.

If you are only interested in emulators, install 5.00 M33-6.

If you have a charger, you have a usb cable. this confused me for about 15 real time minutes when I borrowed my friend's go.

pull the usb out of the power brick.
spoilered for those who like a decent brain teaser. :p

I've never had an issue with my psp bricking on perma firmware, and even if that was the case, the recovery mode on most perma firmwares can give you USB access to the flash, where you can overwrite it with a backup (which you should do anyways with any major flash updates) and you're back in style.

You'd have to royally fuck something up to not be able to boot into recovery

Man, I'm woefully out of date again. Is there any reason to move off of 5.50 Prom to any of these newer CFWs?
as far as i can tell, no. i've read that the newer firmwares are either more unstable or temporary, both of which are real bummers as far as i'm concerned

last game i had to play was tactics ogre though and i don't think i'm gonna play anything else on the psp, so i'm not exactly after more info on the subject

if i'm wrong someone will hopefully correct me and help us both though

I currently have 6.38ME installed on my 2k and I'm probably going to be dropping back down to 5.50 Prome v4.

The newer ones are just to buggy for me to use.

What do you mean by buggy? 6.20 PRO-B5 seems okay, but I've only just started using it. Do you mean in terms of playing backups or are you doing some fairly in-depth homebrew stuff with it?

I'm not talking about the HEN loaders, I'm talking about the full on CFW that Neuron makes for the 2k (and now 1k).

I don't mess with the HEN CFW since I have a PSP 2000 that is flashable.

There's a way to run user-mode apps, but anything that needs kernel-mode is locked away until another exploit is found.
But yeah, 6.37 isn't good news.

So I updated to 6.35 Pro-B5 today and noticed that it now defaults to Inferno as the ISO driver. Is this better than NP9660?
Also, when you first use a new CFW is there a difference between choosing "Launch" or "Install"? I've always just used "launch".

Thanks man, I appreciate it. :(

I'll either return it or wait for a 6.37 exploit...

if i were you i would return it. psp scene seems to be as good as dead

since there were cfw-able units recently, you're better off buying one used. half assed cfw is better than no cfw after all

Did you get it used or new? If new I didn't know they were shipping with 6.37 now. That'd make the cheap Sam's Club ones MUCH less tempting.

Total_Noob has found an exploit for 6.38 but hasn't released anything yet.

EDIT: In fact, he found 2 exploits. He seems to be planning a 6.38 TN-A for someday.

So, I have a 04g PSP 3000 model that cannot be downgraded.

I was looking to tinker with save game files to see if I could apply cwcheats to existing ones. Honestly not sure if I can do this now.. any advice, guys? If not, anywhere around where I might request someone to do it for me?

Please help!

edit: oh so someone is working on one for 6.38? cool.

I just dug out my old PSP1000 and it is on 5.00 M33-6. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of upgrading to the newest stable firmware. I had a look around and there's CFW that once the console is switched off reverts back to the original firmware or something? I'm a little confused by it all. Many thanks, GAF!
