PSP Custom Firmware Thread

...You installed Pro-B and now you want to upgrade to 6.37? Well, I guess just restart the PSP so you leave the lcfw, then just go to the update thing on the XMB? Or download 6.37 OFW and run the update from the XMB.

I want to be able to play 6.37 games on it. If there's no current way to do that, then I'll have to stick with OFW for now.

Games for newer firmware usually will run for several revisions before an update is "necessary" without patching the game or making a new version of the CFW. Just stick with 6.35 PRO-B3 and everything will be fine.

Thanks for the pointer, I am up and running.

One more question, can I swap out mem cards or do I have to put the cfw on every mem card I am going to use with the psp?

so I tried to search thru this thread, until I realized that I do not know how to search thru this thread >_<

so I want to ask, does anybody know how to get Tactics Ogre to run on CFW PSP??

I have the UMD, but my PSP shuts off when I try to access the first map!!

I tried to rip the ISO, which I did, and the game still shuts my thing down!!

it sucks coz I really want to play this game :(

I don't know what PSP version and CFW you're using, but for 5.00 M33-6 with Prometheus (and I believe 5.50 GEN-D as well), this should work:

1. Download ISOTools and Prometheus ME631. Copy both, along with the unaltered (1.5GB) ISO, to MSP. Make sure ISOTools/ME631 are put in proper location (should be in readme).
2. Run ISOTools on PSP.
3. Select the ISO, press X (possibly O depending on your system region?) to bring up ISO MENU
4. In ISO MENU: Select "EBOOT Decrypt". Backup -> Yes/No (optional). Version Patch -> Yes. Start -> Yes.
5. In ISO MENU: Select "Patch", then "Patch Prometheus".
Optional:
6. Copy the patched ISO back to PC. Open in UMDGen, delete PSP_GAME/INSDIR and PSP_GAME/SYSDIR/UPDATE
7. Compress and save as CSO.

Sweet Jesus, patching my own games I bought?
Just got 3rd Birthday, it won't run. Doubt FF4CC would run then. The only thing I use the CFW for is screenshots so I may as well just ditch this, right?

Except I can't because it says I have 9.90 when I try to run the updater. Man, this stuff has only been a pain in my butt.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying. It also depends on your CFW though. They keep adjusting the protection a little bit so a single CFW won't always work.

I believe there's a version.txt you can adjust for the 9.90 problem though or if you can go up to 6.20 TN-HEN or 6.35 Pro-B3 (I think that's it).

I tried 6.35 Pro-B3, but Dissidia 012 still demanded a firmware update.

Try pressing select to get to the VSH menu and change the UMD ISO mode to M33 driver. Also make sure you're running in PRO-B3 mode already since any hard shutdown/reboots will require booting back into the CFW itself.

Alas, like RK, I don't know how.
I don't know what is or isn't allowed linked on this site anymore, but the answer was on the forums of PSPmods. I found it with a little googling. Dude gives direct links to the files needed and I was back to OFW in around 10 minutes.

Thanks! But I found the answer which was just going from one version to the older OFW and then to the newer.
I just dumped it because all I was using it for was taking screenshots, which I guess I can do without. Being able to actually install the games again (via the game itself, not tinkering around with something I don't feel like learning) is nice.

I do, however, already miss the O/X swap that I forgot was due to the CFW. Oh well.

dang man, that readme was in sum kinda crazy “®“I‚ÉCFW‚ðØ‘Ö‚¦‚éˆ×‚̃tƒ@ƒCƒ‹ˆêŽ®‚Å‚· language. o_O

but!!! I followed your directions, made a few assumptions on where to place the folders, and overall I had no real idea what I did...

but it worked!! I was able to get to the map without the game freezing!!

hopefully the rest of the game plays fine,

and I am very thankful for you help!!! ^_^b

Also, is there a CFW that lets you use the PS3's ad-hoc without requiring a PS3 with built-in WiFi? I own the plane jane 20gb model, as I didn't require WiFi since I could connect it directly to my router, but this means I lose out on multiplayer games on the PSP. Is there a fix for that?

And lastly, have they improved the method to displaying your PSP on your PSP, either with RemoteJoy or something else?

Just got a Go to complement my 2000 :D

The screen sure is nice, but I will always prefer bigger screens though... hope the image/color/screen quality makes it up for it :)

So... the big question:

CFW 6.35 PRO or TN’s Hen?

I´m Trying right now 6.35 pro b3 and its awesome!!!

no chikhen and lock ups trying to start the cfw and the backups of your games appears in the memory stick....

tn hen needs iso loader if I´m not mistaken D:

It's up to you. They're pretty similar, but Pro has better/easier iso support while Hen has better homebrew compatibility. That's how it used to be, anyway.

Thanks for the answers!
I went with PRO.

2 questions:

- What's the road to upgrade to PRO-B3? I am currently in PRO-A, I think.

- What's the difference between fast recovery and the install option? I did the install option and it wrote/installed something to flash.

i'm not 100% on this stuff but the install option gets the necessary setup on there, and each time you need to reactivate pro-b stuff you run the fast recovery, like say after you power down the psp and power back up it'll be running standard firmware then you run fast recovery and you're back to using all the features of pro-b

Yep, you're right :) As for how to upgrade to the latest Pro, just download the files, power off your PSP, power it back on, transfer the latest Pro files to the PSP, and run them. It's just installing any other cfw.

Setting the clockspeed to 333/166 made a very noticeable difference in games like Daxter and Wipeout Pulse. Much more consistent framerate and no screen tear.

You don't really need to power off. Just put the files on, run the updater and reboot into the new CFW.

here's another interesting thing that happened...

I used to use the old Prometheus something... I cannot remember what the version was... but it allowed me to play Persona.

I had to patch it again to a newer Prometheus to play Peace Walker, and just recently had to patch an individual ISO to play Tactics Ogre.

but since I cant use that UMD anymore, I put in another old one to fill space, something I havent played in a while, DJ Max Portable 3.

when I try to play the game, my system freezes and shuts down just like it did when trying to play TO!

but I noticed the memory card light kept flashing, so what I did was remove the mem card, and the game started up!

it said it couldnt find any save data, so I reinserted my mem card, and the game loaded my game save properly.

strange indeed... I feel like the prometheus patch that I did to play MGSPW made that happen, but at least I found a workaround to get the game to play.

I would like a little help with what to do to upgrade the custom firmware/software on my PSP. I have a red God of War PSP 2001 running the old 5.00 M33-6. What would be the best to go to now and how would I do it?

Silent Death

lemme get one or two licks
I have a quick question.

I have a 1001 with 5.50 gen-c on it. Do I have to upgrade it to OFW to install Pro or can I stay at 5.50 gen and install pro and power cycle my PSP to get back to 5.50 gen if I want Thanks.

I have a PSP2000, currently running 5.50-Prometheus4. Works great, except I can't play any games downloaded from PSN (downloading through my PS3, then copying to the PSP). What's my best option to maintain CFW and PSN game compatibility?

PSNLover should allow you to access PSN via your PSP. It worked last time I used it.

MediaGo is another option, its what I use to access PS1 games (which is all I really use PSN for).

Once I've finished MGS: PW, I'm switching back to 6.35 to play TO and Dissidia 012. If I can't get Dissidia 012 to work on 6.35, I'll upgrade to 6.37. I don't mind, since I have a pandora battery and Magic MS.

So I just bought a black PSP Go and I was just wondering if anyone from North American has tried registering the device using a European account to take advantage of the 10 game deal instead of the 3 game offer deal they offer in NA. Yes, I know they could easily determine my geographic location based on the IP if they were so inclined and had these additional checks in place.

And you can still play ISOs just fine? I still have my UMDs, but damn, some games are so much faster (Knights in the Nightmare, I'm looking at you) off the memory stick that I don't think I could go back.

i want to buy a used psp-go for tactics ogre, before i do... the typical noob questions

does the go support all/most psp games via homebrew?

do i need to checl that the go i buy is a particular firmware for hackability?

That's because PSP-go and PSP-3000ish are:

1. no interest to hackers
2. they're a lot harder to crack and they don't actually add anything new, not really.

fooking DRM on PSN titles. Basically before I deployed I backed up all my PSN PSP titles to my notebook as obviously they wouldn't all fit on my GO. While some work no problem when you copy and paste back to the memstick, others won't like Oath in Felghana, RE1 and 2 (3 works lol), etc.

Anyone know a way of circumventing this?

Thanks

Pretty off-topic except that it regards the PSP, but anyone here ever call Sony regarding PSP registrations? For some reason my account lists 2 other phantom PSPs registered to my account. I've never gameshared so I know that can't possibly be right. Is there a way to get Sony to reset? It's annoying because I own 3 PSPs, the Go, a PSP-2000, and a 3000.

I have the same problem too. Did you check Qriocity?
Also seems they cut down the number of PSPs you can tie to 4 from 5.

So is emulation dead on the PSP homebrew scene? I'm user a PSP go with HEN and I can't get anything to work.
I just bought a Go and I'm using 6.20 TN-D. I've got PicoDrive (Genesis), NesterJ (NES), gpsp kai (GBA), and SNES TYL MECM (SNES). All of them work properly.

Is there anything in particular you're looking for? The emulation scene has died down because there are already working emulators for just about every system there's going to be.

Quixzlizx said:
Is there any noise in the scene about updating Popsloader to work on 6+ firmware versions?
Why is this needed? PSX support is included in TN-D Fix and 6.37 LCFW.

johnsmith said:
How can I find out if I can install cfw on my psp? Can I tell just by the serial #? It's a later model of 2000.
Regardless of the PSP you have you can use TN-D or 6.35 LCFW. These have PSX support, homebrew, emulators, and ISO loaders to load your games off your memory card. And they have the advantage of not being risky and keeping you on official firmware.

Yes. TN-D doesn't support a couple -- Ys Chronicles I & II is the big one. But 6.35 LCFW supports everything.
