PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Then I take it you didn't install PRO thus not being able to run the homebrew you was on about, lol.

If you still don't want homebrew (it's fairly easy to get homebrew working, just follow this) then you can just delete the files.

I'm trying to use RemoteJoy to use a 360 pad to control the PSP. Have RemoteJoy working, it's detecting the controller and I can bind the buttons to the PSP buttons in the program.

But that's as far as I can get. The PSP isn't detecting input from the program or something. Even keyboard controls don't work. The options like framerate display work, but actually controlling the game doesn't.

Google hasn't been very helpful, most results just come back with general Remotejoy questions and the few relevant results I have found weren't solved.

Edit: Using version .19 I think, 20a doesn't seem to work at all.

This is a little unrelated but I got a new memory card for my PSP-3000 and it now won't let me transfer games that are on my PS3 to the PSP. It says I need to redownload them. Anyone know what the fuck? That seems insanely dumb

They're paranoid about security, and changed it in preparation for the Vita. Gotta nuke them all.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I haven't used PSP CFW since the early years - I ripped one of my UMD games to my Memory Stick through the VSH menu and got an .iso file. I assume I place this in the GAME folder, but for some reason the game isn't showing up when I try to access it on the PSP. Anyone know what's up?

Edit: Whoops nevermind. Figured out it goes into the ISO folder.

I want to play my German copy of MGS1 on my PSP, does this version work? I want to replay 1-3 this month, I won't have much time the coming semester and the awesome awful voice acting for MGS1 would really be the cherry on top of the nostalgia cake.

I'm a bit at a loss, though, first because I never tried to get a disc game on PSP, second because it'S a TWO disc game and third: I can't find disc no 2! Noooooooooo. So I can't even try doing it right now.

Half my PS1 cases are either empty, there's a wrong disc inside or I can't even find the case.

Need a bit of help installing CFW 6.6... I cant even install the official 6.6 firmware.

I have 5.50 Prometheus installed on my fat PSP - if I try to update with OFW 6.6 it says "The system software of your PSP system is version 9.90. There is no need to update".

How do I get around this?

Hey guys I'm looking for buy a used PSP.
I need some suggestions as to which model to look for.
What are some of the pros and benefits of each model or is there one that is simply the best?
I'm looking for one with the sharpest screen. I want to add custom firmware for emulators and am interested in playing Japanese games (not sure if PSP is region free).

Thanks for you suggestions.

Your version.txt is edited to 9.90 and that's why it's throwing that at you. USB mode to flash0:/ and go to version.txt and edit out anything that is "9.90"/"990"-ish back to your 5.50/550 in return of those 9.90/990's.

Then save the version.txt and switch flash0:/ back to USB mode so you aren't mucking about with flash0. Then update.

So I get the eboot on my PSP and it starts with 6.60 PRO, but after the converted for PSP ansd the Playstation logo, the screen stays a dark grey. I can hit home and it goes to the "quite game, Switch Discs,...Reset Game" screen, but hitting home again just goes back to the grey screen. Choosing Reset Game and then disc 1 also has no effect, PS logo screen, then greay screen.

Halp.

Do I need Popsloader? If so, what do I have to do with it?

I recently acquired some official Sony branded PSP component cables for real cheap, and began testing it playing some PS1 classics on my trusty Sony Wega CRT, and they look stunning! Great quiality full-screen 240p image out of the box, no need to fiddle with actual memory cards or discs, so I might put my PS1 back in storage.

But as you might know, PSP games are displayed in their native res in a tiny square. So I must ask, is there some custom plug in to allow for full-screen playback of PSP content? And if so, is there a way to force 240p mode? This could be specially useful for all those nice arcade ports and compilations in the platform.

I am aware of RemoteJoy Lite but that´s not really what I´m looking for and besides I have found that most titles I play don´t play back very fluidly, and I looked a bit into FuSa SD, but from what I can gather it won´t work on CFW PRO. I´m on a PSP 3000 running 6.2 CFW PRO B7 by the way.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

PSP 1000's by far the worst; it's big and it has no TV-out. I don't recommend it at all.

PSP 2000/3000 are almost the same except for some button shapes, microphone and a different screen. 2000's screen has a bit of ghosting. 3000's screen is brighter and produces more vivid colour but has visible scanlines and jaggies.

PSP Go has the best screen but it's smaller by 0.5'. Apparently, it doesn't really affect games much but you'll have to ask around. PSP Go also has no UMD drive, so if you're buy physical games, that might be a deal breaker. PSP Go also has bluetooth capability so you can sync a PS3 controller to control it but you need a PS3 too.

PSP E-1000/Street is almost the same as 3000 but doesn't have any wireless connectivity capabilities. It also only has mono audio. The only saving grace is that it has a matte finish. This is like the gimped version, so I also don't recommend it.

All models of PSP can have CFW on it, iirc. PSP is region free except for UMD movies but I doubt many still buy those these days.

2000/3000's your best bet, imo. I personally use 2000 and I'm happy with it. Some people swear by Go though so you should ask for other opinions as well.

Yes, for some games you will need to install Popsloader files. I remember distinctly that MGS needed POPS 3.71 to work on my PSP while other games like Parasite Eve could be played directly on the default Popsloader.

http://gbatemp.net/topic/301579-guide-to-installing-popsloader-v3-on-pro-b10-cfw/

Download the setup files there, transfer it to your PSP, then launch and install it. When you've installed it, hold R while selecting the PS1 game and you can choose a specific POPS version instead of using the default one.

iirc, the best popsloader version is 3.71/3.72 for most PS1 games. It differs for some games though so google if needed.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

You can buy custom converter boxes specifically tuned to the PSP that will take the output image and turn it into an attractively scaled fullscreen image, but I don't know of any way to improve it on the software side, sadly.

Thank you so much for your information. I really appreciate it.
I remember the one I used had some ghosting so I assume it's the 2000, and I didn't mind much.

I think I will look for the 2000/3000 since I want a bigger screen.

Are there any must have accessories in your opinion?
Thank you once again.

no problem.

Must have accessories? I just go with the usual on any handheld: screen protector, strap, and pouch. I personally use the slip-in PSP pouches since they're handier than the average Logitech case. Depends on how careful you are with your electronics.

Hi guys. I have a hacked PSP on m33 6 5.00. I'm going to upgrade it. Just a question. For the nes snes and genesis emulators, what are the newest ones? I haven't updated them in years.

Thanks for the help!

I'll try that now, thanks. But 657 MB?! Holy moly, if only I didn't forget to include a 16 gig Micro SD card and adapter in my last Amazon order.

My measly 4 gigs just aren't up to the CFW task, so many games, so little space.

You won't have to install all the POPS version. Just the ones you need for the PS1 games you play. As I said, 3.71/3.72 should play most PS1 games, bar a few exceptions that you'll need to google.

Just picked up a great-quality secondhand PSP Go with OFW 6.60. Quickly got CFW 6.60 Pro up and running on it, and dumped my copy of Castlevania:SotN to ISO, converted to eBoot and popped it on an old 512MB M2. Runs perfectly, and now I'm looking to try some of my other titles.

One question, though - is it possible to use the USB connection to copy any larger eBoot files I make - multi-disc games, for example - directly to the internal memory and run them from there, or am I limited to running them off a memory stick? If it's the latter, I can go and order something for myself to use, but if it's the former is there any quick guide to doing it?

Cheers!

Just copy them over using your USB cable?

As prowler_ said, unless I'm not catching your exact meaning, all you have to do is plug your Go directly into your PC using the USB half of the power cord, and drag and drop into it.

So I'm about to buy this guy's used PSP Go. Assuming he has the latest firmware, can I still put custom fw on it without any problems?

Yes, no problem. (To make it more precise: If you ever turn the system all the way off or your battery dies, you will need to run a program on the Go itself to re-start CFW -- this take about 5 seconds and virtually no disk space)

Perfect - tried it this morning and got Castlevania, Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve dumped over and running. I just wasn't sure - and couldn't see from anything I'd seen online so far - whether there would be an issue trying to do it from internal memory. I assumed there wouldn't be, but wanted to check.

Cheers!

So I have another question. I ended up moving from 5.00 m-336 to 620 pro b. I put that version hack in so it would show as 6.60. I'm trying to put games from PSN on my psp and I'm getting error 80031323. I just purchased Final Fantasy VII-IX so I could drop them on my PSP. Am I S.O.L.?

Don't you need to really be on 6.60 now for it to work? Not sure.

And why 6.20 rather than 6.60, btw?

I activated my PSP and it worked, but then I go to play the games (Final Fantasy VII-IX) and I get an error that states the games can't be started.

I did 6.20 because it's permanent.

Am I going to just have to go to 6.60 and do the temp hack? This is really frustrating. I didn't have this problem on m-336. Maybe I should go back to that?

I got a question, I've goten certain ps1 files to work but some don't. It seems like .img and .iso files convert fine, but when i try to convert .bin it seems to not convert. Does anyone know why?

Also, will ps2 iso be able to convert?

I've been out of the CFW scene for a long time now, but it seems I have to return. My nephew accidentally turned off his PSP1000 whilst it was updating and it's killed the PSP. It had custom firmware on it, not sure which version. Is the only way to get it working again is to use a Pandora battery? Are these still used or are we beyond them now? When you turn the PSP on it just lights up green but doesn't do anything.

Cheers :)

Yeah, his PSP will stay a brick unless you make or buy a Pandora battery and a magic Memory Stick.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
So yeah, I tried remotejoy.

I noticed however after a few mins saving, my psp would crash while in RJ. Any idea why it does that?

Quick question: how to rip UMDs? What are the best apps for that?
Don't really need an app. IIRC CFW 3.71 or later is able to rip umd from the psp. Don't quote me on that though. If you have the latest cfw. Just change the usb device to umd. Connect to a PC, drag and drop. It'll take a while depending on the size of the game.

I'm having trouble connecting to the PSN/SEN store from my psp. I tried cfw 6.60 pro b10 and 6.60 me 1.3. No luck. Enable Psn Lover. Still no luck. How do you connect to the psn store with latest cfw?

I have no problems installing my psp/ps1 games from my ps3 to psp.
