PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I tried to install OFW 6.60 from my memory stick on my PSP 2000 but it can't find an update. There's an update folder in the PSP folder, though.

The sticks folder structure is a bit weird, though, since it used to be inside my SE phone. When you open it there's tons of other folders besides the PSP one. I can use the PSP just fine with it, but the update doesn't work.

Sooo, I copy the save folder, format the stick, put it in my PSP and it will recreate the PSP folder structure and I copy my saves back in? Then re-extract the OFW again and hope it works?

I know that the Pro CFW is extracted fine, it shows and works enough to tell me my firmware is not supported, so getting CFW should be easier than installing the Sony one. Lulz.

UPDATE folder is supposed to go in PSP/GAME btw.

And yeah, if you format the memory stick (through the PSP settings) it will re-create the folders.

How long is a Go's battery life during game play typically? Mine seems woefully short. I got it used and figured the guy played it some and then let it sit dead for months before selling it since it's in great condition otherwise. Playing a PS1 game the right site can get a bit hot and the battery will last a little over 2 hours on full charge. Playing Patapon it doesn't get hot at all though.

I looked into replacing a Go's battery and Jesusfuck. There seems to be no sane way to go about it price wise. The battery costs more than I originally paid for the thing in most cases, in other cases the websites are shady as hell.

I found my PSP today while going through some things in my room. I was just wondering what would be the best new CFW to get, I currently have 5.50 GEN-D3 on my PSP 1000.

Got CFW. Ripped my first UMD to iso (always had to download the files back in the da). So proud.

Now I need a bigger stick (I have a 1 gig and a 4 gig one...man, they were so expensive back then). Is this MicroSD to Pro Duo solution as fast/faster than Pro Duos? And is there a faster way to transfer data, 21 minutes left to transfer Tekken DR's 1.6 gigs. Ouch.

Is MGS1 ripped from a PSone disc working properly? Last time I tried it was slow and wonky, but that was what, three years ago?

Then I'll have to get emulators. Can't wait to have Pokeymanz back on my PSP.

Then I'll...get my Vita next week.

Thanks to some kind soul sending me an 8GB Memory Stick I decided to dig out my old PSP-1000. It hasn't been used in years and I found it in a box after looking through every other box and letting a centipede escape off into some dark corner of my room. Hopefully he'll stay there. Anyway, since it's been forever since I used this, the battery is dead so now I have to wait for it to charge before it will even update. I just hope it holds a nice charge when it's done. I don't even remember how long the charge lasted on new ones.

I hope to load this thing up with emulators and ROM's. The last time I used an emulator on my PSP was 5 years ago.

Man this is taking forever to charge.

So anyway. Are there even any emulators that work on a 1000? I Googled and found two SNES emulator versions that won't even load. (Instead they end up shutting the machine off.) and an NES emulator that runs so slow.

I don't remember this happening back 5 years ago. What happened? I thought the technology would get better? Did I do something wrong? I used the Pro CFW instructions and got it up to 6.60.

I have a GBA emulator running on my PSP 1000 for it to run you need to have the "bios file" I don't know if the same applies for NES or SNES emulators though.

I have a bunch of paid PSN games (and PSN+ freebies like Minis & PS1 games)... If I go to 6.20PRO, can I still use 'em?

To answer myself, yes ;) Upgraded to 6.20PRO, did the version.txt trick, logged in fine to the store & my PSN+ minis via MediaGo are working fine. Woot.

Weird. Never had any problems with emulators on my 1000.
The frame rate on the NES emulator was unplayable and the SNES ones kept crashing the PSP. Those are like the only ones I really want to use. They didn't do this when I had an emulator back in the 1.x days.

The Nintendo emulator I use is called NesterJ. It's ver 1.13 beta 2 signed
I think this emulator on the PSP is one of the stronger and better homebrews I've ever used.

The scene kinda died and the SNES emulators never really got up to "full speed" more so for the N64 emulators.

Erm, after working perfectly fine the CFW is now acting up. The PSP was turned off completely, my brother turned the CFW programm on and and beginning with the boot screen the whole screen wobbles and doesn't stop wobbling. PSP is slow as hell.

He says it started when he hit select before he turned it off. If he broke it I'll break him :/

It works normal with CFW off. I took the battery out once, btw. That seemed to help back in the day.

Go into CFW, hit select, change CPU clock XMB to default (and reboot) if it isn't already.

???
SNES emulator is just about perfect, I don't know which one you're trying.

None of the SNES emulators on PSP are particularly good; even the most optimized releases still require pretty excessive frameskip just to run even basic games steadily, much less anything particularly taxing. It's far behind Genesis, GameBoy Advance, or even the in-built PSX emu on the system.

Only tried Megadrive and SNES emulators on PSP. And the Megadrive one I used was far better optimized than all the SNES emulators I found. Signed Megadrive emulators can even run on OFW, while SNES emulators can't.

Hi guys, I'm hoping someone can help. I have a rarely used PSP 2000 that has been on firmware 5.00 M33-3 for as long as I can remember. IIRC, I used to be able to use the network update option to update because the person or people who created this firmware over-rode Sony's update. The thing is, I can't update any further beyond this 5.00 version, just gives me a DNS error.

Any tips on the best way to upgrade to the latest CFW? Many thanks.

?

I've had maybe 50% of played games run smooth at 60fps using snestyl 0.2. Pretty much all RPGs run perfect

Check for cfw pro b9 or LME :)

Not with frameskip off you haven't.
Hmm, can you give me a few RPG examples you're referring to? Have some real trouble remembering which ones didn't work so well...

Unless I've been had and the 60/60 display wasn't 60fps at all, but it all ran pretty smooth

edit, ah see you didn't include the RPG part. I know that games like Killer Instinct don't work smoother than 20/60 and pilotwings was mostly unplayable. Do you have some other well known game examples? All the basic stuff works perfectly AFAIK (at 1:1 and no vsync)

I have a question on PRXshot. Thanks to the GAF plays Final Fantasy I really wanted to replay FFIII NES on PSP and take screenshots in the process. Problem is, I can't get PRXshot to work. I follow the instructions to the letter, and in my recovery menu it also tells me the plugin is Enabled (which means at least I installed it correctly, right?). But when I press the 'note' button... nothing happens! Is it because I'm on 5.50 GEN D3? What else could the issue be?

Gamasutra.
Thanks to this thread, and Sony/Square-Enix/BVG/Disney/Q? not bringing the games I own on UMD to the store, I now have custom firmware on PSP-2000 and PSP Go. I easily I ripped my UMDs of Every Extend Extra and Space Invaders Extreme to Memory Stick Pro Duo and then copied to my hard drive for safe keeping, and then over to the PSP Go.

It's sad that after-market mods are required to enjoy the digital bliss of the future. :p

Why would you want signed emulators/eboots? It's a thing in the past now, now that we have CFW for every PSP (and the most updated firmwares) and signed eboots generally have less compatibility due to no kernel access.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to help my friend convert his old Persona 3 US UMD save game to his new Persona 3 Euro PSN version (He got a Vita and didn't remember he had the US version at the time of digital purchase).

What I've worked out so far is that he needs to use the sgdeemer plugin and use his old PSP with both the UMD and digital versions of the game.

What I haven't worked out is how he can actually do this, right now I've got him working on updating his firmware and getting ready to use CFW using the for dummies guide in the OP but after that I have no idea how he can get the plugin operating on his PSP, is there anyone out there with experience who can help?

Much appreciated if you can!

Just telling that PSP SNES emulators are optimized like shit.

I was busy with my Vita, but now I'm back on this.

Problem is, I can't go into the menu because after I run the CFW program it only shows the post boot wave for minutes on end, wobbling. I lose it and turn the PSP off.

Pretty much what I'm waiting for with my PSP games from 3 different regions.

That being said, I should get another PSP just in case. Does the CFW for the 3000 and Go series allow for an equivalent to popsloader? I remember having to work a bit to get Chrono Cross flawlessly running for example.

Weird, tried it again and it works perfectly again. Maybe the PSP was tired and needed a week in sleep mode ^^

Is there an emulator especially good for playing GBA Pokeymanz?

Backed up my gow chains of olympus when I play the iso off memory stick the game slows down freezes when I play the game off umd it plays fine someone encountered this problem before?

Hi, I bought a second hand psp-1001, which already had 5.50-b3 installed, but sometimes it stopped reading the MS and the system settings would got corrupted, a few times a RSOD appeared.

So, going trought the tutorial on the OP, Trying to get OFW 5.00 but after installing it I can acces the M33 recovery menu, which it lead me to think it doesnt installed the OFW fully or something need to be formated to delete that recovery.... Is this normal?

After installing 5.00 OFW Instead of booting normally it shows the Pandora M33 menu, I select restart device and it boots, then proceed to install 6.20 and the apply the CFW patch, but trying to change the theme/configurations lead to system configurations errors, or BSOD...

Any help or suggestion?

EDIT: the psp was from a friend which said the psp worked fine just before updating the CFW, I thought maybe its a bad flash or something...

Okay, so there's something driving me crazy—those stupid modification dates! I have the Category Lite plugin running to me able to better sort my stuff, but then by default the PSP sorts games not by name, but by modification date. Because, you know, that's smart!

Do I have any options to either change to sorting by name, or hardcode the modification dates so that I can set up proper sorting that way?

So I dug out my old PSP which has been sitting in my closet for the last 6 months. I just tried booting it up after a charge, and the x button no longer works - I can't get past the initial bootup screen. Suggestions? I haven't dropped or spilled anything on it, so I'm not sure exactly what went wrong here. I think the PSP is running 5.50gen-d3

Kind of a long shot but have you tried O instead of X? Maybe the region info got reset somehow?

PSP Content Manager lets you sort by whatever format you want, and then applies the modification date so it shows up in the proper order on your PSP. It's an old program, but still works great for that purpose.

Forgive my ignorance but all the psps (1000, 2000, 3000, and go) are capable of running homebrew? Did sony ever try to fight the custom firmwares at all?

Yes, but they lost: Keys were leaked. No need for hardware or exploits anymore.

Which GBA emulators do you guys use? I have a PSP Go running 6.20 TN-D but the GBA emulator I just tried crashes once I try loading a Mario ROM.

I tried the UO gpsp kai 3.4 test 3 by the way.

Also, which SNES emulator is the best for my system? I tried SNES9x Euphoria but it seems pretty glitchy with screens blanking out for Super Mario All-Stars. :/

Try this one

There was a problem with All Stars in an older build of Euphoria. I think the newest versions fix it
