PSP Custom Firmware Thread

I'm currently at 3.52 M33 with phat PSP. I want to play FF Crisis Core when it comes out next month so I imagine I have to update. What's the best custom firmware I should be using to stay up to date?

I hate how I have to re-learn everything since I only revisit the PSP firmware scene every 5-6 months :(

I'm in 3.90 M33-2 and using popsloader 3.8 for FFVII. I have read that I need to run it at pops 3.71 but whenever I hold "R" and select it from the menu it hard freezes unless I pick "Original from flash". I have to pull the battery out every time whenever I select any other version. Any ideas?

You need to use PARSDUMPER to dump the 3.71FW flash and then the POPS files from the resulting F0 folder. In the POPS files I linked to earlier it doesn't have the 3.71 POPS in it as I was using 3.71 M33 at the time.

I'm 3.03 OE-B and i'm struggling to get this working. The UPMS installer won't run for me. :(

Whats the error code? Have a UMD in your PSP?

Ok I have 3.60 m33 on my PSP slim and the freaking thing can't/won't play the Patapon UMD! Thoughts and suggestions? Please and thank you in advance

You need to be on 3.71 M33 or greater. You will have to update.

I have no clue?

Hold R after hard resetting your PSP (hold the power button for 10 seconds or so, then turn back on) to get to the recovery screen. From here, go to <Configuration> then down to <Game Folder Homebrew> Change this to 1.50 kernel.

Or you could just make a GAME150 folder in your /PSP folder and stick the game there.

Hey I've got a fat PSP FW 3.71m33-4 and I was wondering if it's worth upgrading to the latest custom FW. Last time I checked, I've heard that there were some nasty bugs with the MS loader resulting in noticeable slowdowns during games. Is that fixed? And what about PS1 games, do they run just like before?

So make a GAME150 folder, and put the SNES emulator in there will work? Do I put the roms in there as well?

EDIT: I tried the 1.5 Kernel, same problem froze on the white Playstation screen and shut down.

No UMD, and the error code is 80020321

You do have some PSP games? Put this in the PSP when trying to run UPMS.

Try this version of Snes9x TYL for Slim, works fine on Phat.

Does PSP emulate the DS yet?
One is being worked on but it probably will never be anything besides proof of concept. Not only would the graphics engine be hard to work out but the control scheme would be even harder.

Ultimately would be pointless no?

I uploaded the 3.71 Pops files here. You can put them in your collection download, so they're all available in on place :)

So I purchased a used slim with the latest custom firmware and it came with a chinese battery pre-installed. Is there a trick to getting the battery to work? There is no battery low light on, and I had it plugged in for 2 hours and still no charge. :(

Just buy yourself a new battery, mang. You don't want to fuck with 3rd party electronics shit in your machine. May as well get a Stamina pack and then find a cover for it.

I need help with installing CFW on my Slim PSP running 3.90 (official fw)

I bought a Bandora Battery but I need to make a magic stick. I used navanman's guide (TotalNewbie Installer).
I plugged in my pandora battery and what am getting is just a frozen black screen.

navanman I need your help.

Hmm your the 2nd person to report this on Slim PSP. Try pressing the birghtness button a few times and see does it do anything.
Does the memory card access orange light flash when you insert the Pandora Battery?

For what it's worth, a buddy and I tried to get the Total Newbie Installer working on a Slim and failed. We had to go with an entirely different, Slim-friendly installer. I can't remember what it was, I had to resort to Google to find it.

But if you try to Google up "Total Newbie Installer" and "Slim" you should find some forum posts that'll lead you in the right direction. That's more or less what I had to do.

The same thing happened to me, but I just followed the instruction anyway. I pressed the square button and the memory card light flickered and it shut off after a minute or so. I turned it on, pressed the X, and the same thing happened. It worked perfectly.

Just go through the guide and it should work.

Mejilan how can I unbrick it using the pandora battery. I googled and what I found is that I should get a screen with a text menu and press X.

But what am getting now is black screen when I plug in the pandora battery and no screen at all with a green power light on when I plug in my regular battery.

Sorry for my stupid question.

Well, considering that I have no idea what kind of Pandora you have... *shrugs*

Edit - However, if you have one created by the UPMS Installer, you should be able to use the tutorial navanman has posted in this thread (and was copied into the OP by me) to restore your PSP.

Is it possible to "mod" the battery that comes with the PSP slim to make it a "Pandora" without having to order the actual one? I'm in a feisty hardware-modding mood and I'd like to try something tonight instead of waiting 2 weeks to get the Pandora battery :D

Are you still bricked? Did you try and turn on your PSP using AC adapter with battery removed? Does the memory card access light flash orange when you insert the Pandora Battery?

Yep. Visit the tutorial here and read the section under 'hardmodding a battery' slim battery.

Awesome! Thanks for the link... I only have Vista installed on my 2 PC's and it seems you need XP to format the memory stick :( I'll have to look for my XP disc!

Now it works perfectly with 3.71 M33. I just turned it on without the battery and it works.

Thanks navanman and Mejilan.

im getting the slim tomorrow, pretty nervous for dead pixels, im gonna put the screenprotector on fresh out of the box and then turn it on. if i have dead pixels im gonna flip.

Does anyone know if 3.90 M33 causes any PSOne compatability changes from 3.71M33?

I'm thinking of updating for the Space Invaders Extreme demo and Wipeout Pulse Demo, but I don't want to screw up my FF8, FF7, and Suikoden 2 games I have going.

I was pointed to THIS thread, and it's absolutely perfect. Just click on "show" for the 'Guide 1: 3.71 M33 On Slim PSP Without A Fat PSP *Updated 2-21-08*' part, and follow the instructions.
