PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Okay I made my pandora battery manually.

Now what do I do? The OP tut talks specifically for psp phats that already have CFW
well if you have yourself a Pandora the most disgustingly easy thing to do would be to use the catb50 memory stick tool. Google catb50 to find a dl link, works best on XP but that was some time ago and I dont know if had been finessed to play better with vista.

Savestates? *sigh* I have a feeling it's going to be abused. We'll see. At least in some cases it could easily redeem a game.

The only person who can abuse it is you.

Quick question, I already have CFW 3.90 M33-3 installed on my PSP and everything works great, but if I put a different memory stick into it would I have to do that magic memory stick thing again? I need a new one because I am running out of space, wanna put all of my UMDs on just a few sticks.

You only need a magic memory stick for downgrading/upgrading via Pandora, a normally formatted stick works fines for all normal custom firmware use.

Yeah. I guess most PSP stuff is single-player based. But part of me wonders about huge chances for game-breaking mechanics. Basically loading up later saves and going back to earlier parts of the game.

Savestates are awesome, but I'd have really loved some music player features. I tried a homebrew app called Playlist Manager, but it doesn't create m3u files that can be recognised by the PSP outside the application itself. All I want is to group my music by artist in subfolders so I can find specific songs easily and access all tracks in one list that I can play randomly. The player in the application won't let me shuffle.

Does anyone have an alternative suggestion?

And how long should song info take to load in the XMB menu from memory stick? As I said earlier, games and videos load beautifully; but song info and art take forever, even when I load subfolders containing just a few tracks. I don't mind slow loading art, but I shouldn't have to wait several seconds for artist/title text. I've tried increasing the clockspeed of the XMB with no luck. Would the fatmsmod make loading this stuff faster if I don't have a problem with games or video?

That doesn't make any sense. Savestates don't work like that. You can't keep the game thread running and dynamically load "savedata" into your current game.

To be fair, you could always just put the PSP in sleep mode and resume at any time.

What if you want to listen to some music or watch a video ? Or browse the web ? Or what if your battery is almost dead ?

anyone knows the ETA of CFW 4.00?

I want to play Space Invaders Extreme and it requires 3.95 :S

3.95 M33-3 works perfectly. I'd upgrade to 3.95 now, and leave 4.00 alone until it's been thoroughly tested. There's no reason not to use 3.95 if you need it.

Ummmm... what is this 3.95 M33 you speak of? I just checked on Dark Alex's site and the latest seems to be 3.90 M33?

what is that by the way? I see it sitting on my PSP but have no clue what it does.

Despertar del Cementerio = the name of the DA app to create the Pandora applications.

DA seems to be a bit slow on the CFW as of late. He's usually quite fast. I don't really mind to be honest. I'm happy with 3.90 M33.

All in good time. Its always about 2-3 weeks after Sony release that we get new CFW release.
No point in just releasing an updated CFW as DA seems to be adding in new features.

Did you happen to use Despertar del Cementerio? If you did it should be an easy fix.

Unfortunately no.

But I do have some pandora maker app on my psp when it was bricked.

I have bought 9 games for my PSP and I'm going to make it 10 with Crisis Core.

I use my PSP for playing games (surprise :p) watching movies. I just convert them with VisualHub on my mac. I don't really use it for anything else, browser is slow and doesn't support Flash and I would use my iPod over it as it fits in my pocket much better and has more space.

I bought a pandora battery because I was thinking about using custom firmware but I don't know why I would want to.

I have af ew questions and I'm sorry if they have been answered before but this thread is quite long.

1 Is it easy to use custom firmware on a mac?
2 Can I use any movie format on my PSP instead of converting them with VisualHub?
3 Can I pre install my UMDs and Playstation 1 games onto the PSP with my mac?
4 If I can then are the load times that much faster?

To be brutally honest, CFW PSP is incredibly mac unfriendly. All apps are written for Win32 PC using XP.
1. Unless you know someone with CFW PSP already, I don't even know if you can even make the memory stick portion on mac.
2. PSP still only supports mp4 format.
3. You need to be on CFW to do this. M33 CFW has built-in UMD ripping application.
4. Load times are far far better, cuts it in half or better in most cases.

Thanks for answering.

I can use my boot camp as I have Windows installed, I guess I could do it that way.

Is there any way I can format my MS without using my psp?(As in have all the same folders and stuff after formatting) because my friends psp is gone for a while and that newbie installer thing says I need to format my psp first before doing anything.

Especially for PSX RPGs which have no save interrupt function, assuming it works with POPS.

yet another reason I need to get my head out of my ass and figure out how to get psx games working. They taunt me so, with their freezing at the first load.

I believe the save states are only for UMD games.

It's good to hear that 4.00 M33 is due out this week, but unless it comes with POPSLoader support and whatnot, I'll have to wait.

Just format it on the PC. Back up mem stick's contents, and you'll know how the folders need to be set up.

One more question, do you need the TOOL battery for the newbie installer guide, or is a normal pandora battery fine?

well then that method isn't working, neither is the first guide.

For the datel one, when I insert the pandora MS and battery, it simply doesn't display anything. When I use the original guide and get to the part when I put the pandora in the slim with the L button pressed, the green light goes on, but doesn't turn off.

I can't even turn my friends battery back to normal with the guide on how to get the UPMS menu on the phat.

I'm beginning to give up and think I might have fucked up both my psp and my friends battery.

Fellow CFW users, I need some help with an issue that's been bugging me for weeks. I have firmware 3.71 M33-4, and no matter what I put on my memory stick, be it an emulator or an iso, it always shows up as Corrupted Data. Whatever the app, I always make sure to put it in the appropriate folder (GAME, ISO for example) but I still get the error.

What am I doing wrong?

Edit, okay I found out the problem with ISOs not working, but Emulators are still being fucked.

Okay, I am a total n00b at this, so excuse my ignorance =P

Is there anyway I can make my PSP homebrew friendly?

I have:

1 Phatty PSP with latest firmware *punches himself in the face several times*
1 Extended battery
1 Original launch battery
A computer

No friends who own homebrew enabled PSPs

Any suggestions?

OMFG IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My psp is now unbricked!

I found that I did everything right except, that at the end, when inserting the pandora battery, there was no display to speak, although all the functions(dumping by pressing square, etc.) were all still active. I took a really good guess and thought that maybe, even though there was a black screen and I pressed square, something would happen and it did!

Now to update to 3.9!

Fuck yeah, got my very first PSone game working on CFW. Metal Gear Solid looks amazing on the LCD, although the cutscenes and codec conversations stutter in places. Odd.

The defailt emulator that's built into the PSP lets you change controller ports. I made sure to check for that option right away. :lol

By the way, what is this POPS emulator I keep hearing about? Is it better than the stock emulator?
