PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Cave Story rocks.

OpenBOR (Beats of Rage) is pretty nifty. And most modules work fine on the PSP.

If you're an Ultima VII fan and still have your discs, you can get U7 Part 1 and U7 Part 2 (plus the expansion pack for each) running on your PSP. Very good stuff.

Stakker is a pretty neat physics-based application.

There are two OK Geometry Wars (Geometry Wars PSP and Polygun Wars) clones out there, but both pale in comparison to the real thing, or Geometry Wars Galaxies for the DS.

I don't think I really have anything else to recommend at the moment, unfortunately.

I don't know how I did that but ripping my Fighting Force (PSX) gave me .sub, .cue, .img. and .ccd files.
Actually you don't want to use an ISO because you'll lose all CDDA audio tracks that way(if game has them).
Popstation converts from ".cue" perfectly fine(img+sub or bin images).

Some help would be appreciated from some kind soul out there....

I'm running 3.90 M33 CFW on my Slim PSP right now. I tried to do the Network update to 4.01 CFW and it says "No 401.PBP exist do you want to get it from the internet (x=yes O=no)" So I chose yes of course and it says that there was a "uFetchFile: Error 0x1234009" and then it restarts the system.

Anybody know what this is or what it means and how I could fix it?

Can someone help me with installing a CFW to my psp?
Im BRAND NEW to the CFW scene.
I have OFW 4.05.
It's a fat psp.
I dont have a pandora battery either.

I need to know what I can do.

Buy a pandora and install the pandora stuff on your stick to put CFW on it. Details plentifully available in the OP.

I know there are ways of doing it w/o buying a pandora battery...
What are my other options.

And plentiful?
The OP doesnt even explain what a pandora battery is....it doesnt explain a magic MS either.

Yes it is one of the options.
Ok..
I guess all I have to do is what Dani said.
Make/buy a pandora battery and then follow the instructions.

But if I hardmod the battery to make it a pandora (by cutting the pin) then how can i revert it back to a normal battery?
Is re-soldering the only way of doing that?

Oh I thought you were using the software to do it. I dunno if you can revert if you do that :x

You need to have access to someone with custom fw. It is all in the op on how to do it.
Sorry but I dont see where, in the OP, it tells you how to make a pandora battery or answer whether or not you can revert back to a normal battery or even tell me what a Universal Pandora Memory Stick was.

I didnt even know what CFW meant until i checked around a bit.

:/

A TOOL battery can be purchased from Codejunkies or DealExtreme.
Seriously, buy the Pandora from either of those places and after that refer to OP how to install CFW with Pandora. It's a breeze.

Judging by your knowledge on the matter you don't want to be messing around with hardmodding normal batteries into Pandoras.

Another stupid question from me..

I'm trying to get CWCheat working on my 4.01 M33-2 PSP. Everything's fine and dandy on my actual original PSP titles, but for my PSX games holding select doesn't do anything. I heard there was a problem with memory stick reading speeds, but both my standard UMD and ripped PSP games work this way.. so I'm unsure what's making the PSX ones not work. Does anyone have a solution or any advice?

What's up with Dark-AleX with the stand-by on his website? I remember it has been months.

Have you got other plugins? Some plugin have same pops.txt, if so you need to put multi-lines in one pops.txt file.

IIRC, cwcheat has a separate plugin (cwcheatpops.prx perhaps?) for PSOne games. That was has to be set up and enabled independent of the standard cwcheat.prx plugin.

has anyone tried to run timegal for picodrive? i've tried 3 or 4 different variations and i can not get the disc to run. any suggestions? it's the only game i've had a problem with.

After that... incident... involving excessive gravity and height at a hospital so long ago, I am now back in the PSP seat. Now to plug in my...

Okay so apparently I didn't notice the crack in my memory stick causing corruption, so I'm going to have to get a new one of those as well. CRAAAAAAAAAAAP!

That's right. I played through all of DQVII on my Slim, no issues.

We're still using the older (but still newest) release of POPSLoader. It works just fine on 4.01 M33-2, but keep in mind since it is old, it only supports PRXes up to and including 3.72, IIRC. POPS 4.01 is accessible by choosing the "from the flash" option, or whatever it's called.

Thanks, but I just realized that I still had my super old PC from way back when and used it instead of the Vista-enabled one I have. It totally solved everything!

All hail the Turbo button.

PSP with superior battery life, here I come!

Okay, the Pandora battery arrived in the mail today, so I'd like to try this out with my PSP Slim. I've never done this before, though, so I was wondering which of the steps in the OP was the easiest and most recommended to do?

Also, will I have to format my memory card, and thus lose whatever I have saved on there as a result?

The 2nd guide in the OP is the one you want to use with your Pandora battery. You need a PC with Windows XP.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11770088&postcount=2886
The guide will format your MS a few times so you will need to backup your MS. Copy the PSP folder to your PC, this has all your save games and the like.

It'll work with Vista too, right? Cuz that's what I got.

Once I'm done with that, is it easy to install apps like the remote play? And finally, what's a good site that collects most of the applications I can try out?

Buy.com has a 16 gig memory stick for $120. I'm tempted to get it. I'm going on a trip to Florida with my family this Christmas. That could come in handy. How is the performance? It's a Mark 2 Sony brand MS Pro Duo.

I was all ready to go like "nuh-uh, 16 gigs? for that price? gotta be fake" but then I looked it up and there really ARE 16GB MS Pro Duos and they really ARE that sort of price. Holy crap.

Yeah. You can even find them in brick and mortar stores now. I was at Best Buy Tuesday and they had them for $199. That was the first time I've ever seen the 16 gig sticks in stores. Sony's releasing a 32 gig card in 2009 too.

Well I followed the instructions here to format my memory card and install whatever is needed for the hack, but now I inserted the pandora battery, and it the cover won't fit on my slim.

I suppose now I need one of those "fat" covers for putting a battery like this on the PSP slim?

If you're using a Pandora just as a one-time tool to flash your PSP with custom firmware, then you really don't need a modified cover. Just hold it in place yourself, or if you're too nervous about fucking something up, secure it with a tightly wound rubber band or something. Once the Pandora has done it's thing, you can go back to your regular slim battery without issues.

Okay, I'll give it a shot.

If I follow the instructions on this site, this is all I'll need to hack the PSP right? It already has the homebrew from Dark Alex and everything, correct?

Won't work, I try holding the battery with my hand lightly pressing on it, but the PSP will turn green but then turn off. I'm not sure how much pressure I have to apply, but it probably has a safety measure so that it has to be covered.
