PSP Custom Firmware Thread

That might be it, since the latest version fixes the umd issue for some peeps. You didn't try playing a umd game while you're in PRO?

Well, I tried the new 6.35 Pro A-4 and still no usage of UMD drive through homebrew apps like ISO Tools or Filer. The only thing that I'm thinking it could be is that a prx file that these homebrews are calling are messed up. So now my best bet is to downgrade to 6.2 then use the recovery flasher and upgrade back to 6.2

The recovery flasher should reset all my flash prx files and whatnot, no?

Not sure if true but Im hearing the new A4 was stolen from TN and I guess he's pissed off now and will wait to release TN-D later. A4 is TN-D beta but I went back to 6.20 tho.

I don't know if I believe that. The guy that's doing the 6.35 Pros is the same guy that made the Prometheus Module and the Prometheus add-on for 5.50 GEN. I think he's probably good enough to make it on his own without having to steal anything.

I'm cureently running 6.20 c hen on my psp 3000...are there any downsides or harm that come come tto the psp from turining on usb chage all the time in the vsh menu?

Wait, there's 6.xx CFW now? I'm still on 5.50 GEN-D2.

Guys, what's the latest and greatest CFW? I'm on a PSP-1000.

Maybe I can finally play my Peace Walker and Kingdom Hearts now...

Regarding TO: For anyone who was/is in the same boat as me, here's the solution I used to play the UMD version of the North American release.

If you upgrade to the 6.35 that's on the disc and use it to play the game off the UMD, you can use the 6.35 downgrader to get to 6.20 OFW, from where you can go to 6.20 TN-C, which can run Recovery Flasher 1.65 to revert back to 5.50.

Takes like 10 minutes each time you go back and forth so it's far from optimal, which I recognize. But if anyone else wants to run it from the disc I think this is the only real way to do it at the moment.

Been trying to do this...

However I get the "disc could not be read" error when trying to install the firmware. Disc is brand new just opened the package, anyone else run into this?

edit: I'm coming from 3.71 :\

I come bearing good news, I know how to get FF7 PSN to work with M33-6.

Follow these steps

1) Go to recovery console (hold R while the system boots)

2) Under configuration enable Version.txt

3) Now go to advance and access Flash 0 (be careful as flash 0 is the internal PSP flash)

4)search for version.txt

This is what the file should look like

release:5.00:
build:2740,0,3,1,0:builder@vsh-build6
system:46876@release_500,0x05000010:
vsh:p6264@release_500,v46652@release_500,20081010:
target:1:WorldWide

Change all of the 5.00\500 to 5.50\550 and the game will run perfectly fine.

Version.txt is a way to bypass the firmware check of PSN games.

Does this still work? I'm running m33-6 and I'd like to get xenogears tomorrow. Should I change it to 6.20 and 620?

Can anybody post the full text as it's supposed to be so I can just copy and paste?

And is it even worth me getting tactics ogre? Or will I not be able to play it at all?

I recently bought a PSP GO and I've been trying ever since to rip my UMDs using my phat PSP 2000 and ISOTOOL.

Unfortunately, ISOTOOL keeps returning an error message in Japanese that I can't translate. I looked for other UMD rippers, but I haven't found any that works with 6.35 HEN.

Can anyone help me out... ? I'd really like to play Final Fantasy Tactics on my PSP GO.

Thanks

I'm running M33-6 Prometheus 3 on a TA-88v2 PSP-2000, and Xenogears off PSN appears to work fine after I copied it from my PS3 to the PSP. It started up, played the intro FMV, and even went through the first "battle", which I think caused problems with PSX-to-PSP conversions on some POPS versions, perfectly fine. I was only testing to see if it worked on CFW, so I didn't play any further than when you gain control of Fei to move about the town, but it seems to be good to go.

I'm running 5.50 Gen Promethius 4 and I'm getting a 80020148 error code when ever I try to run any of my PSN PS1 games (minus FF7).

It sucks because I want to play Suikoden 1. Anyone know how to fix it.

well, I dont know if anyone checked the plugin I mentioned before, PSP 3D Plugin, but it just has been updated, and with the big news of being compatible with Monster Hunter freedom Unite! :D

I got some 3D glasses (red+cyan) and tried it and wow it looks good! If anyone have 3D glasses check how it looks:

Anyone had experience running homebrews on 6.37 OFW? (HBL?)

Yes I have a 6.37. A lot of homebrew will work with the half byte loader:
http://www.qj.net/qjnet/psp/half-byte-loader-r113-for-ofw-637-signed-and-released.html

Also, most signed homebrew will work(half-byte loader being an example).

And then there's a lot of homebrew which for whatever reason will simply make your psp reboot or take you back to the psp's main menu(with a frustrated scream of "i WANT that homebrew!!!" XD).

Fingers crossed that a new exploit is found quickly.

damn. Theres a mandatory update to play Phantasy Star Portable 2 online now.. :(

Any way around this without losing my 6.35 homebrew greatness?

Figured it out. Installed the 6.37 CFW for 2000s, ran in it OFW mode and redownloaded my PS1 files (and bought Xenogears). Then I copied my act.dat file from flash2 and restored back to 5.50Gen Promethus v4 and lastly copied my act.dat back to my new flash 2.

Suikoden loaded up perfectly fine.

So happy.

Which version do they ask you to update to?

So because of all that drama that was mentioned in an earlier post, does that mean we most likely aren't getting TN-D? Any news?

Why not just stick with 6.37 CFW?

So is there a new firmware on the 5.55-GEN-D level where I get CWCheat and PSX emulation updates, or no?

If it's all still temporary firmware, SMH. I'm happy for 3000 and PSPGo owners getting into the party, but it's close to 2-3 years since we got a new perma-CFW. I'm wanting the PSX emulator updates. :|

When did 3.55 come out? (or rather, the fix you're talking about)

Er-stupidly, I'm thinking PS3 firmware naming conventions.

5.55-GEN came out in April 21st 2009 or there about.

Latest Firmware is 6.20 or something above that last I checked.

So yes, there is a huge leap in the POPS/PSX emulator for PSP since GEN and the temporary firmwares don't have that... that's why I'm curious if SOMEONE finally released a non-temp CFW for 1000/2000 owners.

Okay, I was about to call bullshit on that one :lol

I must have re-ripped my FFVIII discs like 10 times trying to get them to work over spring break in 2008, and I eventually had to play through the Ragnarok part on the PC cause I simply couldn't advance past one of the FMV's.

Well, the emulator after 5.55 is apparently updated and FF8 runs fine on it (as it was PSN released, obviously). That's why I'm looking to update my firmware to whatever the latest perma-CFW is (that and Dino Crisis)

Apparently there is one. I'm not sure exactly which sites are banned so I won't bother even linking one at this time. Just google 6.37 CFW.

Couple of problems with 6.37 ME.

A) It only supports PS1 games from PSN. Pops games don't work (trust me, I tried)

B) It only runs on PSP 2k that support Pandora, anything else (1k, non-hackable 2k, 3k or Go) will result in a brick.

C) Its really not that stable.

One cool thing is that it dual-boots, if you boot it up while holding home, it will boot into 6.37 OFW.

I installed it last night to fix my PSN PS1 games and was kinda impressed. Just need POPS support and I'll make the switch.

Debating now if I want to update my PSP Go so that I can play Xenogears (bought it off PSN last night).

Currently running 6.35 Pro so not sure if I want to delete my JP account from my 3000 and use my NA account or make the jump to something else.

Very cool. Thanks for the info. I was seriously debating on updating but since I'm still making my way through Lunar 2 I guess I too will have to wait. Other than that I rarely use POPs anymore. Dual booting is a godsend though. I really like that.

What firmware were you on when you installed it? I'm trying to install it on 5.50 Prometheus and it won't let me. I get an error that says my firmware is on 9.90 and I don't need to update.

Well, then. It isnt the CFW for me (1000 owner here, sup).

Your version.txt has 9.90 in it, which is why you're getting that error (I got the same thing). Version.txt is located in the VSH\etc folder on Flash 0 (be careful messing around with flash 0). Just open up version.txt, change where it lists 9.90 back to 5.50 and then save the file.

You'll be able to upgrade to the newer firmware.

Wondering if anybody can help me:

I'm trying to use remotejoy lite with 6.20 tn hen c to play Phantasy Star Portable 2.

When i use remotejoy lite 0.19 , it freezes as soon as the opening movie plays.
I tried 0.20a, but when i run the .exe on my pc its like it's plugging/unplugging my psp. My pc makes the usb device connected/disconnected noise over and over, and if i go to usb mode on the psp while its doing this, it says that its going in and out of usb mode (even if auto usb mode is off).

Any ideas on what i can try?

Anyone know of any sites left that have all of the custom images for custom made PS1 games. Everyone one I've seen has been taken down and I still have a few of my PS1 games I want to convert.

6.35 Pro-B should be out sometime today. POPs supported. http://blog.coldbird.co.cc/

Awesome, so I am a PSP 2000 user with a pandora battery and I have just been using official firmware for all my UMD games and switching to custom firmware whenever I want to use custom PSX eboots.

Does this mean that I can now be on official 6.35 firmware and run UMD games and custom PSX eboots? I've never used any Pro-B or TN's or any of those.

I also like these guys' philosophy on the PSP scene. It really is amazing to me that there isn't perfect custom firmware at this point. I guess it's just developer egos as they said.

I think it's more that no one else has the skill to make a real custom firmware.
