PSP Custom Firmware Thread

6.39 ME-2 didn't work at all for me, at first, when I tried to load games. Then I formatted my memory stick and everything was fine. I guess some files from other CFW or old plugins messed up with 6.39 ME-2.

I just hope that saves made with this FW will work in OFW and future CFW.

I have an old silver 2000. I'm still on 5.00 m336 or whatever it is. Is there any advantage to upgrading to a newer firmware? If so, which one? I did that txt hack where you change the text file that confirms your firmware, and the only issue I've had was that Final fantasy IV will freeze on certain FMVs. Other than that, everything is fine. Is it worth upgrading?

Yes. Look for a guide on how to use the MagicSave plugin.

Heh. Thanks. Good thing I still have my 1000 so I just used Magicsave on my 1000 and transferred back to my Go instead of downgrading and upgrading my firmware again.

What's the difference between this pro-B6 firmware and 6.20 TN?

Every guide I find for like every tool and homebrew stuff mentions the latter.

This stuff is all pretty daunting to try make sense of.

How do I install this?
Can I do it directly on my PSP 3004 with official 5.7 installed?
I just got the PSP on friday.
Install official firmware 6.39. Then download the 6.39 pro-b6 files and place the two folders into PSP/GAME. Then run the 6.39 pro update on your PSP. After that you'll be on the new custom firmware and can delete that update file. But whenever you hard reset the PSP it will revert to official firmware, so you then need to launch the file in the second folder, quicklauncher. Once that runs it reboots you back to custom firmware.

I've got a PSP Go on 6.39 pro-b6 and it's great, no problems at all. I never turn the device fully off anyway so i don't care at all that it takes an extra 10 seconds to reboot into custom firmware if it's turning on from a hard reset.

I've really fallen out of touch with the PSP scene since the M33 days, it seems kind of difficult to find out what you can and can't do with the latest custom firmwares and homebrew enablers and what-all.

I have an old PSP-1000 running 5.00 M33 so I guess what I'm asking is, is there a custom firmware version that's up to date, lets me play my games from memory stick, and doesn't require me to reload it each time I reboot?

No, unless you go to 5.50-GEN, which is sorely outdated.

You can "perma"-TN but it isn't truly a perma/flashed firmware.

Honestly, booting the HEN and putting it to sleep isn't too hard or bad for the updated firmware benefits.

Speaking of GEN: Is there anyway to uncorrupt saves that were made with it? I don't want to lose 80 hours in Peace Walker if I can prevent it. >_>

Okay, so what do I need to do to get my PSP into a state where it can run these non-permanent firmwares? And which one should I be using, are there any compatibility issues with having a phat PSP?

Alright, I've spent a few hours searching and doing research on this, but I've gotten a few conflicting answers.

Today I bought a used Madden blue PSP, and I'm trying to figure out if I can install custom firmware on it without a Pandora's Battery. Ideally I'd like to play my PlayStation games on there, as well as emulate SNES titles.

Is it possible? Or should I just be happy with what I have for now?

Is it a 3000?

The barcode on the bottom of the unit indicates PSP-2001.

Its a 2000 PSP.

However, those PSPs are hit or miss when it comes to install CFW. They were released right about the time Sony updated the PSP and fixed the exploit Pandora was using.

If you do have one of the PSP's that can't be hacked via Pandora, you can still use the HEN CFWs.

Just update to OFW you want to run the CFW at (6.20 for 6.20-TN, for instance), last one is the latest firmware (6.39?), but I wouldn't recommend going that far unless you ABSOLUTELY need the firmware update benefits (better PSX emulation [so far no issues for me], DRM issues) right now. I don't think there is very much compiled for 6.39 right now.

Anyway, once you have updated to 6.20, just get a "Homebrew Enabler"/HEN like 6.20-TN-D and boot that from the memory stick/XMB and you're back on "CFW" after it resets to the XMB.

Put the PSP in "sleep" mode (flick the switch on a 1000) and you are still in CFW mode. It's only if you hard reboot (EG: power off/battery dies/etc.) that you lose the CFW.

There is a hack with messing with flash0:// that'll let TN-D boot up without you having to micro-manage it if it's that big a deal with you, but I wouldn't recommend messing with flash0:// too much if you aren't sure of what you're doing.

Which CFW and version should I install on my Go so I can play my UMDs on it?

Uh, you don't need a firmware for UMD games unless they're asking for a firmware update, so update the firmware to that firmware update (unless it's beyond the "CFW" point, in which case, cry) and then get a HEN for that firmware?

ASKING AGAIN: Is there anyway to uncorrupt saves made in GEN for "OFW"/HEN PSP's? I don't want to lose my 80+ hour MGS5: Peace Walker save. :(

I'm talking about playing my games that I have copied to my Memory Stick from my PSP2000 on my PSPGo. Which "HEN" version should I get and where do I get it?

Which of the ISO drivers included in Pro-B do people prefer? I've just been using whichever it defaults to, but was wondering if I should be trying another one. I think the choices are: M33, Inferno, and NP9660

It doesn't matter. What you need is an iso loader. The HENs should be able to run them if they have an iso loader built in, otherwise you need to get something like Promethius to run them.

NP6690 (or whatever) as that's official Sony drivers, IIRC. Other than that, M33 when it was needed or the default.

If you just use a HEN instead of trying to install real custom firmware, there's almost no risk to your system.

I downgraded to OFW 6.20 and have tried running HEN 6.20TN-D, but the system just kicks me back to the XMB with no sign of change. Please advise.

... Have you checked "System Information" after it kicks you back to the XMB? ;) ;)

I've always used the NP9660 with the various CFWs I've used. Its the ISO loader Sony made and its worked great for everything I've used it for.

Oh! Excellent!

I feel a little ashamed, actually. I finally pick up a PSP, and rather than immediately start working to build and play through a decent PSP library, I just try to turn it into a portable SNES.

Thank you very much for your help, it's been greatly appreciated! :)

My PSP is a portable PS1, its really all I use it for anymore. Nothing beats having my PS1 collection at my fingertips.

man

out of nowhere my PSP is taking a long time to load my 16gb photofast (2x8GB microSDs).

Ive been messing around with some stuff, so could this be firmware related?

Ah, here we go... well, I'm calling this a successful purchase.

I really wish someone would recompile and update Popsloader for the new HENs.

Really glad to see 6.39 Pro B6! :) I'll update my PSP Go soon.
I hope that fixes compatibility with officially owned PSP content.

Is there any trick to loading content from the M2 card? I tried putting games in a folder called ISO, but the PSP doesn't see them.

Does this new CFW allow plugins? My start button stopped working and I read that there's a plugin that allows you to map buttons to other buttons that I would like to use.

Never had any problems with the ISOs on my M2, as that's where I store them. For me, the games are stored in their own folder (ISO) on the root level, rather than the PSP level.

Any suggestions for storage?

This emulator stuff is really neat but with my old 1GB MS pro duo (that I paid 100 euros for back in the day holy fuck!) it's a real pain in the ass to have to load a new iso into it every time I want to play a different game.

Just ripping all my umd's on it was also something I was looking forward to but yeah not gona happen like this.

I don't even want to think of emulating multi disc games on it.

Those stupid sony ms pro duo sticks are hella expensive still, aren't they (and slow).
Are there any alternatives that work on psp?

Okay, you can get a permanent CFW installer here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/2100

This does not require a Pandora battery and is not a HEN. All PSPs now support permanent CFW, except for the Go.

NesterJ v1.13 Beta 2. If you don't like it, try FCEU-PSP v0.3.

How do I play PS1 games on PSP Go 6,20 Pro-? I can't seem to get that working.
Is pro-b6 the best to use? I was using Hen-D before.

I'm still using TN-E, but to each their own. If it's like every other custom firmware, put the PSX eboot into a folder in the GAME directory.

Yes.

Go with one of these

Micro SD Memory Stick Pro Duo Adapter

8GB Micro SD Card (2 will be needed)

This would be a 16GB MS Pro Duo for less then $30. The nice thing about using the adapter is that you can upgrade it by putting in a bigger MS SD card. I upgraded mine from 16 to 24GB by swapping an 8GB card for a 16GB.

Where can I get the best HEN loader to play isos? I'm completely clueless when it comes to CFW. ;|

PRO-B has an iso loader built in. If you load TN then you can use the aLoader plugin. You can get both from psp-hacks.com.

Or he can get a 16GB MemoryStick M2 for 20$ (also runs faster then the Micro adapter stuff).

Dual SD adapter is worth it if you want 2x16GB or 2x32GB. Do note that not all adaptors are made equal (PhotoFast one maxes out at roughly 7MB/s), and stay away from SDs that aren't made by Sandisk.

Thanks, and ty linkboy.

Looked around online at some local pc shops and that m2 card seems really difficult to find.
Found one at a price compare site thingy that has a lot of shops subscribed to it but the lowest price there was 60 euros for the 16GB one.

Are you also sure that it works on a psp1000? it seems awfully small, does it come with an adapter or what?

edit: yeah the only shops that sell m here charge 66 euros for it.

Stupid sony with their pain in the ass memory stick that noone asked for.

The M2 should come with an adapter to put in the older PSPs.

Did I kill this discussion? Oh well... My PSP doesn't seem fixed after all, those vertical lines on the screen return as visible as ever after it's been turned on for a while, though they're very faint when it's first turned on that's why I thought it was fixed. I'm gonna have to buy another when they're super cheap as it would be my third system...

That sucks. This is a known issue though, and you can buy just a screen to get it replaced and keep the same system.

Try mobile phone shops, they usually have them. Sony Ericssons use M2s for a while now.
