PSP Custom Firmware Thread

PRO-B has an iso loader built in. If you load TN then you can use the aLoader plugin. You can get both from psp-hacks.com.
Is there a certain version I would want? I see 6.20, 6.35 and 6.39. Are these permanent CFW or do they clear out if you turn off the Go? I am looking for a non-permanent one, at least for a while.

If you want non-permanent then you should go with TN-E. PRO-B overwrites flash0. And you want the version that matches the OFW installed on your PSP. If you have the choice, I'd upgrade your OFW only to 6.20.

Okay, you can get a permanent CFW installer here: http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/2100

This does not require a Pandora battery and is not a HEN. All PSPs now support permanent CFW, except for the Go.

Sorry I'm such an idiot that I'm not getting it, but it really seems like the PSP scene is moving at lightspeed these days and I'm having trouble keeping up. So if I have an old PSP-1000 running 5.00 M33, what would I need to do to update to this? Do I need to update to an OFW version first? Is there anything special I need to do in order to un-M33 my PSP so it can update to the OFW? It's all a bit confusing to me.

If you're trying to get on PRO or TN you're better off getting Prometheus-4 for 5.00 M33 and sticking to that. Even after getting my new 3000 on 6.20 PRO there are still a few PS1 games that don't work like they should on there but still work fine with 5.00 M33 + Popsloader. But if you still wanna update to a newer firmware you just get said firmware and update.

ScrabbleDude said:
You'll be fine either way. Opinion is split on which is better. PRO-B has a built in ISO loader. You'll need to use the aLoader plugin with TN.

And thanks for that info. I was really making more of that than I should've. 6.20/6.35 PRO-B is what I went with. Thanks again.

So I don't need to update to some OFW version first, I just go straight to the newer CFW?

Is one (TN or Pro-B) better than the other with ISO compatibility?

Does anyone have any idea why pops 3.71 might not be working when I try to load Dragon Warrior VII on my psp? At the moment I am running 5.50 prome-4. I just get a 'This game can not be started' error when I load the game.
I made the multi disc eboot myself over a year ago when I bought the game off ebay. I think I remember trying it on 3.71 pops then, And it worked. It works on 3.72 and a few other pops loader numbers, But I know it's kinda glitchy on some of the pops versions. At least 3.71 is confirmed to work for a full playthrough

Is it worth trying to make a new eboot myself?

Every single time I use CFW, I am disappointed. One thing works, one other doesn't. I thought 6.39 ME-2 was almost perfect at first, then I realised that Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny doesn't work on it.
Went back to 6.35, then 6.39 and installed PRO-B6. SCBD now works. I hope my other games work too.
Funny that LCFW works better for me though.

I'm trying my best to avoid heavily modified CFW and patched games because I fear my game saves won't work on future O/CFW.

I still have the option to play my UMD games with data install, but only recent games have this option.

In your case because you want to put TN or PRO then you have to update to that corresponding firmware first and then put the CFW on it.

I got an old PSP 1000 and it has ofw 6.39. Does anyone have a handy link for a tutorial on what to use and how to use/install it? I'm new to the PSP cfw scene. Thank you :D

Is it possible to use savegames for PSone games from my PSP to my PS3? I have a savegame on my CFW for a ripped copy of suikoden which I now want to play on my ps3. When I plug in the PSP and go to savegame utility it says there are no save files on the PSP. Is there something I'm missing?

PS3 XMB->PSX data utility.
PSP->USB mode.
Icon appears on PS3's XMB for memory cards
"Suikoden 1/2"
?????

PROFIT!

ASKING AGAIN: Is there anyway to uncorrupt saves made in GEN for "OFW"/HEN PSP's? I don't want to lose my 80+ hour MGS5: Peace Walker save. :(

OP, where are you!? I need your assistance! (Or hopefully I catch someones eye that can answer it. >_<)

Can anyone tell me to get to the CFW settings console (where you can change cpu speed etc) on 6.20 Pro-B5 using the temporary patch? Before it used to be I'd hold down R when booting from power off, but now that doesn't work since I'm using the temp patch that has to be applied every time you completely shut off. I don't mind doing that since I rarely fully shut off but is the only way to get into the settings console done by applying the permanent patch?

If I want to download the 3 free games that come with a Go, do I have to logon through the PSP? It is making me upgrade my firmware so is there a way to downgrade from the newest version after I register and get the games?

Hey GAF, I'm running 5.50 Prometheus 2, which apparently is quite out of date, I was wondering what's the best most up to date CFW and how to go from what I am, to that one. Can anyone help?

Press select while on the XMB (I think).

My question then: is there any harm in upping the cpu speed in that menu on a psp1000? (other than shorter battery life?)

It might help in some games where the framerate tends to dip.

Never mind, I went to OFW 6.20 then to CFW 6.20, given how attractive PSV is looking right now, and the BC, I imagine FF4 will be my last PSP game and I'll play Type-0 on PSV. Fair well PSP, you've been utterly middling.

don't do it through the psp. either use mediago (pc program), or use the ps3. both won't require you to update.

What's the difference between 6.20-TN-D and 6.39-PRO-B?

Can I still use CWCheat, et. al. on PRO?

But in Europe you apparently have to use the PSP store... Is there any solution for this?

Just sign into PSN normally. I'm on 6.20-TN-D and was able to activate/deactivate my system and use the PSP store just fine. It may error you out, but just keep at it, once you're in the store you're fine until you back out to the XMB where it'll attempt to error you again to get back in.

Hey, I have a PSP-1000 that I'm going to update to OFW to get my free games off the EU store. Is there a way to get back to CFW after I do that?

Also, what's the best CFW for PSP-1000 these days? Thanks.

So I'm on M33-3 now, considering I only really use 16-bit/arcade emulators, is there any reason for me not to upgrade to 6.39-pro?

Sounds like there's no reason for you to upgrade.

I have a few PS1 games I bought from the store and they need 6.20 or above to run. Also I assume I need higher firmware to run the welcome back games?

I think this has been asked before in here but I can't find it anywhere. Is there any way to play games from multiple PSN accounts without having to actually activate/deactivate it via my PS3?

Yeah I use one. I think it's called PSP License Manager. Basically it lets you store multiple licenses on the psp and switch between them using the app. It's pretty good.

Does it work on every CFW?
The only version I found is V0.30 from 2009.

Another question
Is it safe for me to upgrade to the latest official firmware and tie my PSP to a PSN-account and later upgrade the PSP to a CFW?
Do I have to end the account on my PSP before going CFW to not lose one of my five activations on PSN?

I'm still waiting for a bigger Memory Stick Card to be delivered to me. The one I have is 4 gb and I am waiting for a 16 gb card.
I won't do an CFW before I get the bigger card but I would like to try my PsOne games I have on my US PSN account while I'm waiting and the free PSP-games in the welcome back pack. .

Well after thinking I didn't need CFW since I've owned my PSP, I finally took the plunge. I realized that games I really want to play like MHP3, are never coming to the west and have great fan-translation patches available.

I haven't consulted anyone, just followed a few guides and I got what I wanted. I installed a CFW called 6.20 PRO-B5, ripped my UMD, applied the patch and it works! I'm not sure what different CFW's are out there and if I even picked a good one (it just seemed pretty recent).

But now that I have CFW I am wanting more. I'd like to play on my TV fullscreen and I see that there is a plugin for that (FuSa SD v1.0.50b) but every game I try locks up after the PSP splash screen. Is this plugin not compatible with my cfw? If so is there a better cfw I should be using?

I'm really really new to this whole scene so if somebody could help me out or at least lead me in the right direction I would be thankful.

Not for Mod Nation or LBP. I dunno about Pursuit Force but Killzone Liberation wanted 6.39 when I checked the version I had. *shrug*

I dunno how well 6.39-TN or PRO is though. If I could bypass the 6.39 check on Killzone, I'd play that right now. :/

Ahhh, see you had said you only play the retro games. If you want to play games from PSN, then yes, upgrade.

Thanks for all the answers to my questions.

I am trying to move my saves from Alundra and Parasite Eve from the PS3 to the PSP but I have no luck. They never show up, even though it seems they are transfered.
What am I doing wrong?
Does it matter what User account I have played the games on?

If I played the US PSN games on my EU account on the PS3 and then transfer the saves to my PSP where I have my US account activated?

Edit: I think I found it.
A bit more complicated than I wanted.
You have to import the save file after you started the game by pressing the Playstation button and then choose Memory Card Utility and import there.
I thought it was just to copy the file from PS3 to PSP and nothing else.

OK I tried KZ Liberation and it runs fine on 5.00-m33, interesting. Still want those PS1 games to work though, guess I don't have much of a choice.

There's a permanent version of 6.20-pro right? I have a first-gen 2000 so should have no probs with compatibility.

I would say that, if ever something doesn't work on your PSP, the majority of the time it's a User account region problem.

Does anyone know if there is any way to play Tactics Ogre on CFW yet? I have a PSP-2000 with the latest version of 5.50 Prometheus. The game is on sale on Amazon for $25.99, so I would like to get it if there is a way to play it.

I have a PSP-2000 TA-088v3 model, currently it has OFW 5.03 on it with HEN, but now apparently there are these:

http://www.psp-hacks.com/2011/05/29/psp-custom-firmware-6-206-356-39-pro-b6-released/

It supports up to OFW 6.39 (the latest version!). However this one doesn't have a permanent patch yet, I wonder if I should install 6.20 Pro-B6 Permanent first, and only use the 6.39 Pro-B6 version if I need it? Do you always require the latest firmware revision to access PSN from the PSP now?

Doesn't the MagicSave plugin work? I never had a corrupt save problem, but I was looking it up recently and apparently, MagicSave allows you to load "corrupt" saves. It's a plugin that you run and, while it's running, you can "force" the game to load a corrupt save, which will be loaded properly. The readme then states that you should overwrite with a new save asap, because then you won't have any problems anymore.

The problem is that, back when I was looking for it, I couldn't find any reliable source for it. Hope I could help.

EDIT: I just found out that my Crush save (some old GEN-B save) was corrupted and yes, MagicSave fixed it. You have to manually choose all the options (3 types of encryption and 3 types of save file). Every time you try to load a "corrupted" save with the wrong option, it either hangs the game or doesn't load. I managed to get it on the third try.

Now it's my time to ask a question: Everything is working Dandy with my PSP, but, even with Game Categories, my games folders is kind of a mess. It seems the PSP sorts applications by DATE. Is there any way I can sort it either by name or some arbitrary rule? Ideally, I wish I could put two or three games on top, and everything after them be sorted alphabetically.

PSP Game Organizer and PSP Homebrew Organizer apparently do that, but they're all from 2007 or something, and again, I can't find a reliable source. Anybody has any ideas?

I've installed the CFW now. Easiest CFW install I've ever done!

What are the best plug-ins for the CFW PSP?
I've not installed any of them yet. I'm having a hard time to see whats good.
It's not like the Homebrew Channel on the Wii exactly...

What version of the emulators should I use?
I guess that PicoDrive is the best for Sega but there seems to be many different versions and releases for the SNES which makes it difficult to choose.
What other emulators are worth trying?

I don't have PeaceWalker (nor 6.39-PRO-B), so I believe I can't help you any further.

Maybe if somebody else has Prometheus-3v4 and the game can help you? I don't know.

MagicSave did work for my Crushed issue. I just though I'd give you a hand, since you've been looking for help for a while in the thread.

Best of luck.

I dunno if it's your plugin or moving to 6.39-TN (further proof TN > PRO if this is the case) but I was able to load the save with SFO: Type 1 Decrypt: Type 2 of MagicSave after getting into the save menu (enabling the save stuff while was going to the loading menu) and saved my "corrupt"ed by GEN 82 hour Peace Walker save. I can now load it in non-TN (OFW 6.39) and TN. <3

Thanks for the suggestion if that was it (or if 6.39-TN has a GEN thing that unfucks the GEN save encryption), as you've just saved me a lot of tears.

Hello everyone! I am going to make the jump to a PSP 3004(from an old 1000), but I don't know where to start modding wise. Is there any guide available on the net? I've made searches on google, but I only find sites that point to 2009 old articles. :(
