PSP Custom Firmware Thread

Kenak said:
Okay I decided on 6.20 TN-E. I downloaded the 6.20 OFW update, but I cannot get it to go. I put the UPDATE folder from the winrar into the PSP/GAME folder, and when I select the update in the game menu it just says "Game cannot be started." I'm drawing blanks on what I'm supposed to do.

The Go uses its own firmware.

??? i havent bought it yet but i remember people saying it only required 6.35. that's weird. would some copies really require two different firmwares?

EDIT: Here http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=27279325&postcount=11609

I just tried my UMD again, and when I select the game to play, it specifically says that I am running firmware 6.35, and in order to play must upgrade to 6.37. The UMD upgrade to 6.37 is immediately after the game in my selections in the Game section on the PSP. So I'm not sure where people are getting that they only need 6.35, unless there is some workaround I am unaware of...

Any talk of more work on improving current CFWs for the PSP or PSPgo?
There's at least one more version of PRO-B coming. Then they've stated they're going to release it as open source after the genesis competition.

Nice looking forward to it! Thanks for the update.

Trying to figure out what the deal is with SNES9X on my Go. Ever since playing it on my HDTV via PS3 controller, Euphoria R5 Beta 3 is very prone to crashing and freezing when moving around the menu.

Driving me bananas.

So I was noticing that the PSP Go is getting pretty cheap, lately so I was a little interested in picking one up. However, I don't really have much interest in playing PSP games on it. I'd primarily be looking at it as a portable PSOne/SNES.

What's the likelihood of getting a PSP at retail these days with a firmware version old enough to bypass?

Also, from reading around, I gather that the PSP Go still can't do a native firmware flash to allow for that. All of these "custom firmwares" aren't actually firmware at all, just a software layer that runs in RAM, correct? Isn't that kind of slow? And a pain in the ass to deal with?

What's the best solution for fixing uncorrupted old game saves from 5.50 gen d3 to prom-4? I tried lua player and its still corrupted. Is Freecheat better?

I have this problem, and I saw this:

Upgrading to 6.20 TN Hen is one way to get saves working - and apparently now TN-D also has permanent install option, so it's not much of a change from CFW on 5.5 anymore.

Is there any specific firmware update voodoo magic that I have to know about to get my PSP up to date and salvage my save games?

Edit: Nevermind. alf717's fix on page 99 did the trick.

Nope, it's not slow. And no, it's not a pain in the ass. My Go is almost never turned off. Pretty much only when a new version of TN comes out. The PSP sleep mode is excellent.

Forgot the mention I'm currently on 5.00 M33-6 (PSP 1000).

[edit] Did some more reading, so ... I assume I would want 6.35 HEN? That will allow me to play Patapon 3. What's the upgrade process from my current firmware?

:(

u can skip them right? otherwise you'll be frozen forever...

and I am home now!! I checked my PSP and it said I have 5.50 Prometheus, but I am not sure which version of Promotheus I have... is there a way to tell??

Has anyone here bought a plastic hand grip holder for their PSP Go? Something like this. It's only $5 shipped, sort of shaped like a 360 controller and probably alleviates any cramps you might get if you have large hands and play for extended periods.

this is late, but yes, this thing rules. Does exactly what it advertises and makes the whole thing way more comfortable. I'd recommend it to anyone with normal adult sized hands. Even if your hands don't go numb/cramp, it just makes holding the thing easier.

--Go to gamestop and ask to look at the used Go systems. At $100, it's the best deal around for a Go. You can check the firmware. It's very likely they'll have 6.35 or lower.

--The "custom firmware" are actually HENs (homebrew enabler.) I use 6.2 TN-E, which is just a program you download, put in the GAME folder, and run once. Simple as can be. If your system completely shuts down (like after a hard freeze/crash), you have to run it again, but it takes literally 10 seconds. Not a pain at all. It seems to do everything CFW does. There are other methods, but I haven't looked into them.

Then you install prometheus to GAME, your ISOs, and you run it, pick a game from the list and you're done.

--The only downside is that you can't use the PSP Go's freeze state option under Prometheus iso loader. The games run inside the Prometheus program, so it creates an unusable save out of that program.

you should use the aLoader plugin. It will allow you to launch your ISOs from the XMB and lets you use the freeze states.

just tried that aloader. works with most of my games except for SRW Z2. freezes at the red screen which i assume is trying to decrypt something. had to take out battery just to shut off psp. I guess I'll keep both aloader and prometheus on psp for now.

Mine just arrived and it's great. Makes the Go a lot easier to use for extended periods of time and it feels like you're holding a 360/DS3 controller.

I just installed this (first time I've heard of it) and it's pretty good. Put simply - if you're running TN, you need this.

Oh my god. I've stopped using my PSP for a while (a cousin of mine has been using it). Now that the PSN storm is over, I decided to pick it up again, so I could do the PSN password reset thing and, perhaps, update it's custom firmware to something newer.

I'm still using 5.50 Prometheus-2. I never bothered updating to Prometheus 3 back then because of the Save Incompatibility thing. I knew there were plugins and applications designed to fix save incompatibility, but I just didn't bother.

Now, there's a million different Custom Firmware available. Somebody said, earlier in this thread, that Prometheus 3 v4 is the best bet so far (as Prometheus 4 breaks compatibility with some games), but I look around and there's about a billion different firmwares running up-to-date firmware, mostly for the PSP Go and ports to the 1000 and 2000 models.

Is 5.50 Prometheus-3 v4 still the best bet? I'd like to keep playing my UMD discs from the memory card, PS games with updated emulators would be a plus (as some games don't work with the Prometheus 2 one) and PSN and PS Store access. I can still do it on Prometheus-2 with PSN Lover, so I'm guessing that's not an issue? I'd like to download some new free games when the PS Store gets back.. :D

Edit: I know all about Prometheus 4 being fucked up and not officially released, I'm just asking if any of the newer installable firmwares on a PSP2000 (for instance, 6.38 ME-3) bring any benefit not present in Prometheus 3.

Will I have to update to the latest official firmware to sign in to PSN? I would like to receive the two free games offer.
Just so you know, the store isn't even up yet. I am updated to latest firmware and it won't let me access the store.

Okay I have a question, I am trying to put OFW back on my 1000 to give to my son for a present. I have prometheus 5.50, i can't remember what version but i think its the first one, on the psp and i am trying to use hellcats' recovery 1.62 but its having issues. What is the best route to get OFW on my old psp?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just bought a PSP Go used, hoping it would come with older firmware. It came with 6.38... curses. :( Are there any options for hacking it?

You should have checked it before you bought it. Can you switch it out for another?

I don't know anything about it, but I know people are making use of signed code. Not sure what that does. but i highly doubt that's legal to talk about here.

If you bought it at gamestop, they'll take it back. they'll also let you check firmware on PSPs before buying...they don't care what you do with a Go, as the store is cut out of it either way.

No?

Use MediaGo, log into your PSN id: Buy PS3/PSP stuff from the store. PSP stuff can be gotten on the PC through MediaGo, transfer via USB. ????? PROFIT.

I bought it from ebay so there's no real option to exchange it. :(

IF you can actually get that piece of crap software to work. I've sent hours trying to get MediaGo to work, but I always get a network error that I can't fix no matter what I do.

*shrug* I wouldn't know. But I may have to use it since my PS3 is down and I'm not updating past 6.20 for now, unless there is some HEN enabled PSNfucker plugin.

It's also Windows only, which kinda sucks.

Mejilan, I kicked your ass in Streetpass Street Fight! I guess you are also in New York? We should play Monster Hunter PSP some time. :)

I haven't touched me PSP in some time and it looks like I'm on 5.50 GEN-D Full. How would I go about upgrading to the latest CFW? Is there a new preferred way of ripping PSX - PSP?

I haven't been following the scene since PRO-C (or D or something), but it's a sure thing that eventually your firmware will be cracked.

I've been thinking about picking up a PSP and doing this for quite some time but haven't had the money lately.

Good news! A downgrader for 6.3X firmwares has just been released.

Do I still have to worry about what PSP I get? If I order a PSP 3000 off of Amazon what firmware is it likely to have?
