Pretty ridiculous that they're making an Ape Escape for the PSP from the perspective of the series' original intention. Having two analoge sticks were what made the games different from the rest of the platforming crowd.

Still it looks like the same old game, hopefully they'll have some creative gameplay to replace the loss of dual stick control. Not a big loss for the series at all but still kinda funny for it to take this direction.

I find it pretty hard to get excited looking at PSP screens, it's something else entirely looking at the games actually running on a PSP.

Not to say that these dont all look great compared to DS games, but outside of Ridge Racers, none are that impressive overall. I'm sure Mingol is a total blast though.

MVP BaseBall on PSP=mad fucking sex baby. MVP was a really good baseball games last year. Hope this one turns out the same.

That's it. The debate is over. Twisted Metal + Wipeout + Ridge racers = me getting the PSP over the DS. I can only hope IGA will do a Castlevania on the PSP.

Or TREASURE! Seriously I think it's about time Konami tried a Castlevania without IGA.

After the CES media blowout and impressions...... here's the damage tally in the coming months for me:

Twisted Metal Head-on +1 sales
Wipeout Pure +1 sales
Mercury +1 sales
Metal Gear Ac!d +1 sales

I'll still wait to see which version of Vampire/Darkstalkers I want to get. :D

I can't really see a Treasure Castlevania. All of the Treasure games I've played have a crazy amount of action going on... I really don't want to see a Castlevania like that. Not even the early Castlevanias were THAT intense. For me Castlevania has always been about the smooth gameplay and the incredible atmosphere.

I would like to see the DS Castlevania ported to the PSP. That game looks sooooo very good. Just beautiful. The seal stuff looks cool as simply something extra to an already great game, but I wouldn't care too much about it being absent from the PSP version. Probably won't happen though.

nice graphics but I have no interest in any of the games shown. Hopefully some good RPGs or strategy games will come out near launch.

I'm hoping for more 2D games. There's already slated to be a couple of strat RPGs coming, with one of them being made by the company behind Disgea. So there's that to look forward to.

I haven't seen this posted yet - PSP CES Trailer:

Spiderman 2 looks amazing in motion!

I'm in the same camp, of the 12 games guaranteed for launch or that were at CES there isn't a single one that's really my thing. Guess i'll import Lumines and pray that more games pop up that interest me. I'm surprised at how thin the launch titles are in regards to rpgs and puzzlers.

This line-up is pretty good compared to PS2 line-up at the launch. And many great games have already been announced.

Best TM track ever.

I love how that's done actually, they show all these console like games, and then zoom out on the PSP as if to remind you that this is actually a handheld. Very very nice touch. Got my blood going.

Possibly because no system, console or handheld, typically launches with rpgs? Rpgs usually have longer development cycles and don't start showing up until a year or so into a systems life. Unless they are quick ports, you can't really expect an rpg with a new system.

I'm getting sick of those anti-PSP pro-DS people.

God forbid people not want a PSP or games for it.
This will probably be how everyone who says such things will be treated here. *yawn*

It'll be the same vice versa too. I'm sick of everything being a popularity contest.

The screens are great btw. Not interested in any of the games (OMG lynch me!1!) but they do undeniably look great.

I think it's more that if you ARE a pro-DS person and you say the PSP launch is weak now you're such a colossal hypocrite that it's one of those "must point out the wrongness of it all" kind of things. Not that any of these games have to be your thing, of course.

But I'm always in the middle.

I'm not!!

I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about.

Hahaha

But you ARE a pro-DS person, don't freakin' even TRY to hide that. Which is fine, but don't claim you have any love for the competition.

The launch lineup looks very good for the PSP. The games may not suit everyones taste but you would have to be a fool to argue that the launch lineup isn't varied. I'm very impressed with what Sony has planned for the launch, and am almost shocked at how well rounded it is considering all the talk we have heard about very short development time. Lots of games in top tier franchises already planned. Mercury looks pretty cool too I wish I could see some more.

No Lumines for NA launch? That sucks. Doesn't it have an English option? I'll just import it then.

If these were coming out on a console, I'd only be interested in the new Ape Escape (which now seems pointless w/o dual analog), Mercury & possibly the MGS card game. Additionally, Darkstalkers piques my interest because it's novel to have a port of that quality on a handheld, but it's simply not an inspired collection of games...

Wipeout
Ridge Racers
Lumines
and Mercury for me

I'm kinda thankful, if there's no jRPG at launch. It's the only time I actually venture outside of that genre. Not that I'll complain if there is.

It does but I would still prefer Lumines :\

I guess I have to import...
Wait, WTF it's not coming out? I know there wasn't any info regarding it for U.S. launch at CES but I thought it was all but confirmed already.

Nooooo I want Lumines ASAP, I want this game to be exposed to my fellow brethren.

Ok then don't jump to any conclusions cause I just sort of assumed that since it wasn't at CES we probably wouldn't see it in US for launch then.

But maybe not.

What would be your idea of an inspired launch? Not everything has to reinvent the wheel but beyond EAs usual porting routine some of the games shown are pretty radical deviation from what we have seen on consoles. Inspired is an interesting word to use. Games can be inspired, but also bad.

Mrbob said:

How about a game that does something that we haven't seen before? Mercury is the only one that kinda sorta qualifies (and even Nintendo's Tilt Sensor Kirby game did that).
