had a hunch lol ... but ouch, that seriously kills performance

best is to place the fan on the other side (still keep it blowing towards the back ofcourse), will increasing your temperature somewhat (~5ish Celcius?) but it's worth the performance increase.

Alternatively you might try to place it on the other side and turn both the back case fan and cpu fan around so the back fan works as an intake fan for the CPU fan. You would need some good fans in the top to not disturb airflow too much though.

or try to remove the heatspreaders from the ram (voids warranty)

Okay, set the fan to pull instead and slotted the RAM in slots 2 & 4 for dual channel. I ran 3DMark again and scored P6350 3DMarks. Not much improvement over the previous P6149.

Edit: I have a question about the cooling. I have a Corsair H70 for my CPU but the rest is all air cooled. Should that be counted as air cooling or water cooling or something else?

I put liquid. I assume cooling is referring to the CPU.

how is the physics score now?

On the Physics Test my 2600K gets 25.6 / 31.2 / 35.1 at stock/4400/4800 mhz

just put H70, clear to everyone what it is :)

25 fps is exactly right for stock .. and it recognizes your speed as 3392 MHz which is about stock

you're absolutely positive you run at 4400 MHz? what does CPU-Z say ? (load up a program because it reverts to 1600 MHz when idle)

If I run prime 95 at the same time my overclock shows correctly?

it does? then I don't really know ... 4400 should be in the low 30s going by my results and those of others in this thread

it shows 8 cores so hyperthreading is working ... is the memory running at the rated speed (MHz/timings) ?

What temps are you getting with your cpu under load?

For some reason my overclock profile wasn't loaded. I have enabled it in the bios and got P6663 3DMarks LINK. My clock speed was 4290 MHz, not 4.4. I had average temps of 65 over all cores under load. Do you think I could overclock it a bit more?

Low 60s under load. Honestly I try to keep it well under 70 on the hottest core, but I think some run at higher temps.

The Hyper 212+ isn't that good at cooling for the volts requied to hit 5 :( Even 4.8 and running the IBT gets the 2 hottest cores into 90's. I have another fan coming for a push/pull config. We'll see how that does for temps.

Keep in mind my 6950's are not unlocked and have stock shaders.

Got some nice cards, but they won't seem to budge 4Mhz above that. 1437Mhz on the memory is only stable 50% of the time. 988 on the core seems roughly stable, but pushing volts into GPU and having CPU be barely stable it would just take up more time.
If I had some better case cooling could probably squeeze more out of them. They'd probably be amazing for water too.

I'm most upset that my RAM won't even go to 8-8-8-24 or 1600Mhz at 9-10-9-25.
That is some bullshit.

*Pretty close to SLi 580's. Feels nice knowing my cards have cost me under $500.

New score - I decided to OC the GPU as far as it would go before I had to increase the voltage going to it and a less mild CPU overclock.

I'm really happy with how cool everything remained - neither the CPU or GPU got over 55C during the run, so there's a fair bit of headroom left.

800 more points to reach number 1 ranked GTX 570, think you can push your GPU clock up to 900? that might just get you there :)

He's got a 2500K which can easily overclock to 4.4-4.5GHz@1.30-1.35V on air. At high 1.44V, 4.7GHz wouldn't be that hard. On i7 950, 4.2GHz is already very good.

And, people seem to be going crazy to try to squeeze a higher score.

Okay all - Ladders are updated, we're getting mighty close to the character limit for the OP, but I think we'll make it to a Top 100, I put my feelings about this at the bottom of the first post, I'll have to remove that text at some point in order to fit the Top 100 in the first post.

Today's updates are all done and we're up to 89 entries, things are coming along well... once again, please call out any mistakes you see or find, it's getting harder to maintain and keep track of everyone's scores... spend 3 hours on this bitch today... it'll die down once we get to a Top 100 for me, but it's been a lot of work to maintain so far so I hope everyone has been enjoying it and getting a lot out of it so far :)

I certainly have, it's given me a drive to try and overclock my CPU and I believe I've managed to get it to a stable 4.0Ghz, however I have to sacrifice HT because it just gets way too hot with HT on and eventually it causes errors during Small FTT Prime runs. I'm considering buying a Corsair H100 to replace my H50 and give it another go and see whether that will hold the temps down so that I can keep HT, I'm sure that's the only reason that it's failing... temps... if I can find a cooler that will hold the temps down, and the H100 seems like the only solution, then I'll be able to run 4.0Ghz with HT, so I'm off to buy a H100 in the next week or so.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Laptop GPUs are way less powerful than desktop GPUs due to the need for smaller size, lower power consumption, and less heat.
