Rainbow Six Vegas 2 |OT| of no auto shotguns

Vegas was my fav game on the 360 before CoD4 came out.

Hopefully, they've taken some of the things that make CoD4 so bad ass and implement them into R6V2.

Speed, for instance... could be turned up just a wee bit. Going back to R6V after some CoD4 was murderously boring in it's pacing.

More tweeking of weapons and gear.

Anyway, I'm getting it for sure.... just hope it's a step forward.. and not exactly the same.

Why do that? They added sprinting.

Sweet the lead game designer confirmed that Vegas 2 is an hour longer then Vegas 1 in the single player mode (No GRAW 2-esque short campaign).

Vegas 1 probably had one of the funnest campaigns of all FPS on the 360. I'm glad this new one has more content.

I pre-ordered today and am pumped!

I've been hoping to hear of some street date breakage before the weekend. But I imagine if anyone had any luck they'd have either posted already or be too busy shooting terrorists.

Still, anyone... anyone?

I actually stuck my head in a few stores today just to see if any of the bigger retailers had it available. Nope, I'm never that lucky. :|

Two people at SomethingAwful had the game like a week ago. Don't ask me how.

From the description in the OP I'm not really clear about this:
Rankings – Vegas 2 will reward returning gamers with enough XP to make the first rank, as well as extra gear to help you on your mission. If you are a returning Elite (or completed story mode on realistic difficulty) you will be rewarded all the benefits that veteran gamers get + more.

Will I definitely be getting the things I have unlocked in Vegas 1, unlocked in Vegas 2 depending on my rank? Also if I'm a high rank will I get the new stuff automatically for that rank?

I think I am going to play Vegas 1 all day today to get my stats up.

any word if Ubi made the ps3 version look like shit again?

and are the MP graphics still dog shit compared to the SP?

I want to say because Ubi is again trying to sell an expansion pack at full price

Bad_Boy said:

From my perspective, i was really hyped about the first and enjoyed it but it feels like Vegas 2 is coming out pretty quickly on the heels of the first without adding all that much, so, I find it hard to get excited about it. I was the same way with GRAW 2, I loved the first but the second felt like a full-price expansion rather than a real sequel, but as Vegas 2 is getting closer to release I am getting more interested in it.

Because Ubi announced it in a press release three months before the actual release. If this game was unveiled in a GameInformer coverstory with a good E3 showing and a fall '08 release date there'd be far more hype. With the former strategy, it just leaves the impression that they're rushing it out the door.

Ubi has not built up the hype by releasing information about the game early, and the little information we have makes the game look like a level pack to the first Raninbow Six: Vegas game.

I suppose you'll have to wait for the reviews. For some reason, it doesn't look like people have had any real time with either version.

*shrugs* Looks ok from the pics, but again, the same issue applies.

I didn't have an issue with Campaign, but T-hunt? Jesus. Nothing like clearing a room and leaving. Then have 5 people spawn in the same room as soon as you turn around.

I remember one stand out time when I was playing with a full crew. We breached a door and the room was empty. Proceeded inside and a shotgun guy spawned behind the door we just opened and killing two members of the crew before he got taken down by one of us. :/

Campaign was pretty bad as well. Same thing would happen as you stated above. I'd enter a room with only one entrance/exit, have no enemies inside, close the door behind me and then after a few seconds have 3 or 4 terrorists open the door and come out. Usually with my back turned to them.

Guys Phillipe from Ubisoft talks with major nelson on the latest podcast about R6V2.

Very detailed informative discussion and it seems Ubisoft really did an excellent job trying to respond to what the community asked for. You can download off itunes or go to:

The interview is a bit of the way in, after the battlefield interview.

i have seen the game today on the office played by some guys

vegas 1.5 what massive letdown

no coop online for 4 players on campaing ( but there is 4 operatives on screen) graphics look worse than vegas 1,bugs everywhere

yeah i know now is a more multiplayer aproach but ubisoft want to charge 60 bucks for this?

Another thing about the spawns is that it marginalized sniping in T-Hunt. Enemies simply wouldn't spawn until you got close most of the time.

Agreed. I sent a mini impressions message to those on my friends list (many who are GAF members) I was in Wilkes-Barre PA playing it in the Police station where most of our clan mates work (Protect and serve? Yeah right! :lol )

The problems of the first are still prevalent here in the 2nd. Multiplayer problems abound with the same gross host advantage, the laughable bullet penetration, being able to shoot through cover (remember the "glitch window?" yeah it's back in different places) The graphics are tightened up, this no longer looks like an Original xbox title online, so that's a plus I guess.

The campaign which I played until the 3rd chapter (I had to drive back to NYC so I couldn't stay too long) is thus far much harder than the first. Almost COD 4 veteran hard, pop out of cover and you'll get sniped by a tango using a MK.23 from across a large map. Shotty snipers are there too.

COD4 veteran difficulty? Yeugh.

Seriously it's just not fun when I can't even stick my head out without getting killed. That's all fine and dandy for online games but for campaign modes...ugh.

It's not horrible, but the multiplayer (TDM) was lacking something important.

Fun.

It just wasn't fun. The gunplay just felt "off." If you're a fan of COD 4 (tdm hardcore) skip this, or rent it for the single player experience or co-op campaign/terrorist hunt.

I defended GRAW 2, because to me there were just enough differences in multiplayer for me to enjoy it, yet people blasted it for being GRAW 1.5. If GRAW 2=GRAW 1.5 then RB6:V2=RB6:V 1.01b

Thanks to my friend Mark, I saved money this month.

COD4 veteran difficulty (past the first mission or two) is one of the most soul crushing experiences one could put oneself through.

It's miserable, and anyone with the achievement to bear it should have their head examined. I won't be accepting any counter opinions on this matter. They would be false.

If you have a ton of patience and are really good, maybe. For me, I completed the first few missions on Veteran, then got to Charlie Don't Surf... and within 10, maybe 15 minutes I went "fuck this shit, I'd rather be doing something else."

Also, Treo, what difficulty were you playing on? Casual? Normal? Realistic?

I finished CoD2 on veteran and even when I was getting sniped from a mile away by German submachineguns I could somehow stomach it.

I quit CoD4 veteran at the TV station. The next developer that puts infinite spawning terrorists/aliens/whatever in their game I will gladly rate it a 0/10. There is just no fucking reason for such bullshit game design.

Shame that RSV2 is looking to disappoint. At least I have a ton of games to fill the void.

I beat COD4 on Veteran in 5 days, (I had a slow week in classes). Some parts were frustrating, but not to the point where I wanted to give up and sell the game. I actually enjoy the tough, ridiculously hard campaigns.. I'll put it right up there with MotorStorm. So hearing that Vegas 2 is going to be hard, I'm gonna buy it just for the challenge.

And I played it on the PS3, so no achievements for me.

Are the online servers set up the same way they are in Vegas or did they wise up and adopt proper matchmaking ala Halo 3 or COD4? I say this because the host would always have him and his high ranking buds on one team while a bunch of stragglers and I would be on the other.

Other then that concern, I'm really hyped for this game.

RSV was my favorite game on 360 till Halo 3 and CoD4, so I cannot wait for the game. I honestly cant believe the criticism that RSV2 is getting. This game is SO much different from CoD4 and Halo 3 that you cannot even compare them.

That being said, I am still buying this game day one and cannot wait to get online and start the grind to elite again.

I only play on realistic.

Quazar said:
Treo how much did you like first Vegas?

I liked it for the most part, I only played that on realistic. As for the multiplay, despite the bugs and the poor graphics, and the crappy net code (one of the reasons I always tried to host :p) I had fun, that is until a certain game demo came out for the summer and it's subsequent release in the fall of last year. Ignorance was indeed blissful.

The fact that I consider RB6 to be a tactical FPS and COD 4 the same, makes them both comparable. RB6 wants to compete with COD4 and uses some of the same elements that COD4 does, however aside from the Sprint function and XP system, Rb6's bullet penetration feature is a joke, pop and shoot with a black dot/paper in the middle of the screen is still very much a factor despite what UBI soft says. I even tried for myself, sure instead of insta-kill pop-n-shot it now requires 2 bullets.

Say what you will as this is only an opinion. When you get to play it later, perhaps you'll enjoy it more than I did. I greeted this with open arms as I've always been a fan of the Rainbow/Ghost Recon series (everyone knows that the real Rainbow died on the PC :p) however this one feels more of the same.

Spawn shield is a welcome experience, so there's a plus in my book. Rotating spawn zones for TDM would've been the icing though.

I barely tried Vegas 2 at a friend's house and it seems good to me. Vegas 1.5 is a good description as it's basically more of the same with some misc improvements. On the other hand, I would easily call Halo 3 for Halo 1.5 or CoD 4 as CoD 1.5 as those games has had very few advancements besides graphics.

The general style of gameplay is very similar to Vegas 1. Although you can sprint and bullets can penetrate certain walls it isn't like CoD 4 at all. The sprinting doesn't make you much faster (the sprinting seems to be still slower than the normal running speed in CoD 4 for instance), and you can only sprint for a few seconds at a time. So the overall slow pacing is still there. Which is good news for people who want gameplay is a bit more tactical and careful, and bad news for those who want a much more fast paced games.

The way they set up coop is rather odd though. They claim coop is much more improved than Vegas 1, but I doubt you'll find anyone who would prefer to have 2 players with 2 AI teammates and a poor story instead of 4 players with no story. And since the second player feels so detached in the story (for instance, when killing the first enemy in the game the 1st player gets credit for it... even if it was the 2nd player who killed the enemy), there's no sensible reason why they couldn't have added support for more players.

On the bright side, the AI teammates are much better this time around. Mainly because you can now tell them to use grenades anytime and anywhere. And the AI teammates are now available for terrorist hunt which is good news for people playing alone. And you can still play 4 player coop in the terrorist hunt mode (which has been slightly tweaked, the enemy spawning is still there but there seems to be less enemies who are automatically aware of your position).

I think recommending this game to other people is quite easy. If you liked Vegas 1 and want more of the same with some improvements then get it. If you hated Vegas 1 then don't get it.

(and I agree with gregor7777. Veteran difficulty in CoD 4 means the game isn't a game anymore, it becomes a torture device which should be banned for the good of humanity)

Awesome, thanks for the info. Glad they put AI teammates back into terrorist hunt. How are the options for terrorist hunt mode? Can you choose the number of tangos, and is there really a respawn option?

I see where you are coming from, but if you play RSV like CoD4, you will get destroyed, in my opinion. I guess I ment to say that while both "tactical," CoD4 is much more run and gun while RSV is slow and strategical.
