There's lot of good TV out there, but I have a hard time justifying sitting in front of a TV several hours a week when I could be doing something else. I tend to feel the same about movies. Passive activities almost always feel like utter wastes of time.

I decided today - getting my eyes operated this autumn. My glasses broke today and new ones would be around 500 € (normally I use contacts), so I already booked an examination at the best clinic in the country. Also my dad surprised me and he will cover 75% of all expenses.

The only time I can justify watching movies or TV is when I'm cuddled up with FK on the couch while doing it.

Hey wait marrec didn't say those great words, those are mine!

History is written by the victors A.Meat, so it is written, and so it was.

If books were cheap, I would be reading American Gods, Taronga, A Wizard of Earthsea, Post Office, A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow, and that's just for starters.
But books are not cheap.

No libraries where you live?

I don't kiss and tell.

I have a lot less patience when it comes to watching tv. But this is the season to just sit back and relax with a good movie or series to watch imo.

500 euro?? What are your glasses made of?!?

No one should read American Gods though. It's not worth reading that mediocrity.

Libraries are what I assume to be heavens. Free books?! SIGN ME UP!
I will miss libraries when I leave the country. QQ

-9 on left eye and -8 with moderate astigmatism on the right. Add nice frame, thinned lenses to the max and you are near 500 €
Ah, that explains. A work buddy of mine had really bad eyesight too and got some lenses implanted last year. Wished he had done it earlier. He doesn't need glasses or contacts anymore at all. They are capable of pretty amazing stuff these days.

I feel that way a little, but much more about video games. Unless I feel something is greatly affecting me emotionally or intellectually, it doesn't seem like time well spent.

I was saving money like crazy for last two years - been wearing contacts for 12 years, eyes are getting tired, more and more issues are coming up like dry eyes... It will be around 3500-4000 €, but this is something that I must do.

Already contacted new oculist (she is a part of eye surgery clinic) and they will send me a date for the appointment.

I really can't remember the last book I finished. I tried to read the first game of thrones book but I just stopped after a couple days.

I bought the first four books of ASoIaF and made it about 300 pages into GoT before I said "fuck this" and sold the set to a friend.

I love being sick though. Makes it easier to sleep, soups taste better, you feel less like yourself, cold water becomes amazing, chest feels heavy with sputum, you forget there's no more Colbert Report... gimme that sweet sweet flu.

Can't stand cold water when I'm sick. If I try to drink it, my sore throat gets worse. Shower with it, and it feels like someone with metal hands punched me in the chest.

What a coincidence. I just got home from work and I walk into the kitchen to see my mother making guac.

She must have heard us talking about avocados earlier lol.

Does anyone know the cheapest route to get internet without using 56k? I was considering the offers from Netzero broadband and Dish Network but I'm really unsure (I'm living in the Mid-Atlantic area). I've been going to a local public library 3 times a week for free internet. I guess my budget is 30-40 bucks a month for service but that'll probably get me nowhere lol. Any advice would be appreciated.

Not to shit on you or anything, but if you come up diabetic or get bitten by a snake or have to be on a biologic like Enbrel are you just going to refuse treatment because animals were involved in making the medicine?

I'm not militant about it; we all have our own lines we draw. If my life was in danger, I'd step up to whatever flavor. But my immune system is strong enough that I rarely get the flu. It sounds like there's a vaccine in trial created from insect cells, which is interesting. I can already see a Sci-Fi channel B movie with this premise. Hopefully eventually they'll be able to build vaccines from artificial biology.
