New Features and Updates
Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC takes full advantage of the power of the PC to bring every corner of this massive, rich and detailed world to life from the windswept snowy peaks of the Grizzly Mountains to the dusty roads of Lemoyne; from the mud-spattered storefronts of Valentine to the cobbled streets of St Denis. New graphical and technical enhancements for deeper immersion include increased draw distances for better navigation; higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion for improved day and night lighting; higher quality snow trails, improved reflections and deeper, higher resolution shadows at all distances; tessellated tree textures and improved grass and fur textures for added realism in every plant and animal.

So there is an overwhelming amount of graphic settings available. Much more than in GTA5.

My System:
I9 9900K
32 GB RAM @ 3200MHZ
1080ti
Samsung Nvme SSD

I just cranked everything up to Ultra with TAA set to high and MSAA off
At 1440p I get 51fps on average. NVIDIA wasnt't kidding with their suggestions even tho theirs was for high settings and not for ultra.

It's very clear to me that those setting are intendet for future systems and that's fine. Don't sweat it.

Well, the games unoptimized. I think I'm gonna wait till Nvidia releases their 3000 series.

And no, no amount of screenshots and telling me the game looks good is gonna change my mind or convince me the game isn't unoptimized.

Man shootouts with mouse and KB are such a treat. It’s like a whole other game.

I know. I'm pretty awful with the controller so it's nice being able to use mouse/keyboard in this game now.

Also I'm so used to 30fps in this game that 60 feels a bit off lol.

Me too, 3000 series should offer big performance jump from 1080ti.

The fact that even at the balanced pre setting it’s still dipping under 60 in some scenes at 1440p is disappointing. I hope they will optimize this further..

Balanced settings looks better or worse compared to xbox x version?

That’s tough to tell. There is nothing where I would immediately say that it looks way better. You would have to make a direct comparison for that. The x version looks very good already. I guess Digital Foundry will dissect this soon.

The PC version seems right fucked ATM. Even people who are able to get into the game are reporting all kinds of bugs and issues. From massive stutter, no sound, crashing while using the map, pixelated shadows, textures won't change regardless of the settings and just generally lower framerates than they should be getting.

At the very least, the first few hours after launch have been a nightmare.

What are you doing Rockstar?

certainly won’t get it now, I’m only interested at the mods to help make the game way better and fun. Also seems like it needs lots of patching to iron out those major bugs, will check again half a year later.

Anyone else having performance issues, like really bad performance issues? Game keeps freezing for several seconds before continuing. It's almost unplayable.

Damn, not to troll, but I am glad I made the switch to pro consoles only... pc just gives you headaches with ports like this .. at least on console you get what it is ... my head would explode and I would go on a pc components buying spree , which I did in the past 🤣

I did some benchmark runs with Vulkan and DX12 with my system:

7700K@4.7 GHz
2070 Super @2000-2050 Mhz in game clocks
16 GB 3200 Mhz RAM

@2/3 4K upscale (essentially 1440p) maxed settings with TAA high (no FXAA/MSAA)
DX12: 44 FPS avg
Vulkan: 41.4 FPS avg

It seemed like DX12 gave slightly higher performance, and I couldn't detect any significant frame pacing issues with either api. I did play the beginning bit with Vulkan for like 30 min and it didn't have any issues, but I'll have to play some with DX12 next to see if there's any hitching of frame rates instead of horses.

So far the game looks incredible though, there's a million settings to optimize, and ultra settings should push current systems to the max. It tells nothing of optimization how well a game runs maxed out, only how little devs look to the future on PC hardware.

Hell yeah. I'm waiting for the Steam version (or a discount on the Rockstar version that's too good to pass up), but I'm super excited to play through this again. I'm planning on building a new PC next year, so I might wait until then to really jump in again. Currently running an i7 6700k and GTX 1080 from 2016.
