Looking forward to both glitches and mods. I got about halfway through the PS4 version and got busy with life. I plan on playing the shit out of this again starting tonight.

Not bad with GTX 1080Ti in 3440x1440p (Textures : ultra / others settings on high & TAA on medium only) 50~60fps on average

Your screenshot looks like a photo. Graphics is clearly much better compared to GTA 5, so no wonder game is much more demanding.

I did some benchmark runs with Vulkan and DX12 with my system:

7700K@4.7 GHz
2070 Super @2000-2050 Mhz in game clocks
16 GB 3200 Mhz RAM

@2/3 4K upscale (essentially 1440p) maxed settings with TAA high (no FXAA/MSAA)
DX12: 44 FPS avg
Vulkan: 41.4 FPS avg

It seemed like DX12 gave slightly higher performance, and I couldn't detect any significant frame pacing issues with either api. I did play the beginning bit with Vulkan for like 30 min and it didn't have any issues, but I'll have to play some with DX12 next to see if there's any hitching of frame rates instead of horses.

So far the game looks incredible though, there's a million settings to optimize, and ultra settings should push current systems to the max. It tells nothing of optimization how well a game runs maxed out, only how little devs look to the future on PC hardware.

Thanks for sharing this

I was exciting to wake up this morning but I might have to hold off until I upgrade my GPU

Well, the games unoptimized. I think I'm gonna wait till Nvidia releases their 3000 series.

And no, no amount of screenshots and telling me the game looks good is gonna change my mind or convince me the game isn't unoptimized.
Well the game was definitely unoptimized on PRO with their wonky resolution etc.......So I had no doubt it would be a bit "brute-forcish" on.....However, I feel they have cranked up the settings on PC vs the consoles a fair bit......So PC (at best settings) vs Consoles should be a very interesting faceoff to look forward to in the next few hours....

Their benchmarks were based on High settings weren't they. Like Kingdom Come Deliverance, the ultra settings may be intended for future hardware

Best improvment for PC , Mouse and keyboard.

See console gameplay with autoaim.... so boring :/
Aim on console is fucked for thos game, it's not a gamepad thing...
Horizon or gears are 100x times better even with a gamepad and no autoaim.

Was playing RDO smoothly for about 2 hours and the frames suddenly shit the bed. Seeing a lot of streamers with the same issue. Single player seems fine, though. Weird!

3440x1440 report:
Specs: Ryzen 7 3700x(4.2GHz OC), RX 5700 XT Gigabyte OC

MSAA: Off, since it takes massive fps hit(~10fps)

It does indeed run better on DX12 which is surprising to me.

Until gryoscope is embraced it is definitely a gamepad thing. I'm sure rdr 2 added input lag also adds more layer of suck, but the primary issue is lack of precision that traditional stick only gamepad suffer from.

oh boy, my GTX970 is crying. also some textures are really low res even on high texture settings, like horses for example.

I did some further testing, and at least on my system and settings it was best to stick to borderless windowed mode with vsync on + triple buffering on in the game settings. Otherwise in borderless mode it would use Windows vsync which behaved the same as the in-game vsync without triple buffering, aka it locked the frame rates to multiples and didn't max out the gpu in all situations. The behavior seemed to be the same with DX12/Vulkan. Gsync/Freesync users could of course turn vsync completely off, but I'm not sure how it would operate in borderless windowed mode. Fullscreen mode didn't provide any noticeable performance increase, and alt-tabbing will immediately switch the setting to borderless windowed, which will in turn enable that worse vsync mode if you don't have the in game triple buffering setting turned on. Just something to keep in mind if you see the fps stick to even levels below your refresh rate or fps limiter and gpu utilization isn't maxing out.

Another thing I noticed is that the freaking screenshots taken with photo mode seem to be saved in some weirdo files in /documents/Rockstar Games/Red Dead Redemption 2/Profile/profileid#/ and they need to be converted to jpgs or uploaded to Social Club and downloaded from there. Why they can't just be png's who knows...

I mean yeah compared to the mouse, gamepads are less precise.

But rdr2 has a shitty aim system, far worst than almost any tps on console, i have almost zero problem with other games.

So basically it's a demanding game that will eat GPUs. I love it. Good to see games actually push the hardware and leave something on the table for future cards to take advantage of.

I wonder what the Xbox One X equivalent settings look like and how those perform.

Thanks for beta testing everyone. I'm sure by the time the Steam version launches all the bugs and crashes will be sorted!
I´m curious to see how it will look on Scarlet and PS5! if there´ll be an update!
Not as good as these screenshots posted in here. Will look better than current gen but not near PC.

1080p first Favor Quality preset (very close to what you see on PS4 Pro) @ i7-6700/Titan Xp
It's laughable.
These dropped frames, microfreezes, overall horrible frame pacing.
All the usual suspects.

What a mess, give it 3 months of patches and driver updates.

LOL

Every game goes through something like this at launch regardless of which platform it releases on - to prove this, all you have to do is check the official forum for any game and look at the launch-day posts: you’ll see a plethora of issues.

Had this game launched on Steam first these issues would still have appeared. You’re not benefitting any by purchasing this game on Steam - you’re benefitting by waiting..

And clearly that can be said for any game.

[Nice try, though. :)]

Glad you think your opinion is so important, especially when you are such an obvious outlier. Yet another typical trolling internet pleb to block
You actually went back and edited that post? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I never stated that my opinion was 'so important'. Nor was I trolling. This is a public forum and I've never wavered on my opinion of this game.

If you're so precious that someone else's differing opinion on a fucking videogame forces you to start name calling and blocking, perhaps the internet isn't for you.

Not to mention, the steam version will still require the rockstar launcher. So you're just adding another needless launcher.

Tried the DX12 settings and it has red sparks flying around everywhere (I assume the light particles that seem to glitch out). Returned to Vulkan and they're gone... hope it's not just my setup that produces such graphical glitches.

Anyone try it with a 980ti?
I did. Using the default settings (mix of medium/high 1080p and Vulkan) I get average fps of 60 in their benchmark. Gameplay seems to be buttery smooth too but don't quote me on it.

You’re being silly.

Edit: it seems you’re trying to start a console vs pc war here? Not sure what your point is?
It was a joke.

It will be interesting to see how the PC community receive the game because faster framerates should make the game control better. Mouse and keyboard, as opposed to controller, again, should make the game control better.

Happier? For the record, I played the game on PS4 Pro. I now only game on PC.

Jesus I thought I can get 50fps+ in 4K if I will lower some settings but looking at this...It not gonna happen :D. Maybe I need to start my XOX again...
