That sounds kind of disappointing. I wanted a Switch 2, but not the same device with just a little more power.

I mean, everything pointed towards this for more than a year, because we knew that's what it's gonna be for at least that long. the only difference now is that we have, what is essentially the final design of it as well.

I have been following the leaks very loosely.

I have been following the leaks very loosely.

the moment the Tegra T239 was confirmed to be the SoC inside the system it was pretty much clear that they'll go the safest route forward.

the only real question so far was if there will be some new gimmick on the controllers really. and there still might be, as it's still not fully clear what the C button on the right joycon does.

some speculate it's a "Creative" button to activate some sort of media sharing or clip editor app... but I doubt that honestly, as you could just bind that functionality to the already existent share button like the PS5 does it.

so, the C button is still a mystery.

The top side of the joycon when detached has a surprise feature. Oh and the magnets themselves are buttons.

Sounds interesting, maybe you can attach joycons together or IR? If they are releasing a Mario Kart bundle maybe they are for gimmicky real kart controlling. "Think lasers" though not sure if it was about the button or the top of the joycon.
Pretty sure in the Reddit thread guy responded with "think lasers" so I think pointer controls are back!

Perhaps also we will start getting Wii remasters to fill in the gaps since they used the Wii U library hard during the Switch's lifetime.

Prime 4 with optional pointer controls, hell yes. Prime 3's combat was amazing, I sure hope if it is optional the way the enemy AI attacks is configured to that. It definitely felt a bit off with all the settings in Prime 1 Remastered, yet the enemies attacked the same, and hit points weren't really adjusted.

Could also explain why they held onto the rumored Prime Trilogy and Twilight Princess HD for so long, now they can finally release a definitive version of it.

Zelda in 60fps please with cloud saves importing so I can resume my play session.

Do it pussies.

I'm glad they're calling it the Switch 2, especially since it apparently looks almost identical to the Switch 1.

If they would've tried pulling some "Switch U" shit we'd have Wii->Wii U esque consumer confusion all over again.
Nintendo would never name a console along the same thought lines as Wii to Wii U/ DS to 3DS ever again. The lessons were learned, hard. They’ve said so many times. There was never a chance it wouldn’t be something very clear and very simple to convey exactly what the console is without needing to explain it, or leave any room for potential confusion.

Doing the same thing two gens in a row hasn't worked for Nintendo since NES-SNES.

Oh well day one.
Ehhh This is a bit of revisionism. SNES cut the console userbase by a third from what the NES sold, and it was a much shorter generation as well. Needed replacement sooner. As much as I love SNES, it struggled to keep Nintendo dominant.

And as others have already said, Sony’s done it every time and it’s not hurt them at all.

It came way later and outsold a more than healthy selling genesis/megadrive.

Sony has done it unlike Nintendo since those days.

It will be really interesting to see if the Mario Kart train continues with a new game, because the success of MK8 is insane. It will also be interesting to see if the 2 continues the domination, the only thing holding it back might be the install base initially. The continued sales of the current switch are illogical really. Exciting times! Only Nintendo can stop Nintendo by messing this up.

It’s a start but there needs to be something big splashy and single-player to draw the early adopters. Obviously not Zelda this time. Metroid prime 4 and MK9 would be an incredible launch day lineup, though. If that happens, holy crap.
Totally. And as long as the system has physical backwards compatibility I'll buy on day one, too.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.
Hall effect joycons..If this is true , this would make sony looks super embarrassing .

Seriously sony , please release a hall effect dualsense edge stick , even Nintendo does this now .

💯 % it does. I believe they’ve already confirmed it. But if not, it’s basically a certainty.
I think they just said it would have bc, but didn't clarify if that just meant the eShop or also physical media. Wish they'd clear that one up, unless they have and I just don't know about it. One would think it will be, because it would piss off so many people if it was just digital bc.

Wouldn’t be the first time for Nintendo.

yes but it wouldn't make much sense to force developers to support 16:9 and 16:10 for all games, and not only support it but also make it work in a way that it can dynamically switch ratios within seconds and without getting into UI issues or FOV issues.

a 16:10 screen has no real benefits for games

How would this person have acquired a ‘non-powering’ Switch 2? How can mods prove him honest? This is very curious… Nintendo marketing?

Since he mentioned lasers in the joycons, I suppose wiimote like functionality.

inside out tracing could be used for far more interesting thinfs than wiimore pointer controls. especially since you can already do that without any tracking by just using a gyro sensor and a reset button

Nintendo calling it switch 2 is all I need to hear they’ve learned from their Wii U name/branding fumble

Those rumours sound pretty awesome tbh. Playing it safe is smart while fixing issues with the original (such as joysticks)

I'm hard predicting a 3D Zelda Remake before 2028.

I'm talking about a full remake of Ocarina, Majora, Twilight, or Waker. To fill the gap before next gen Zelda.
They’ve been pretty consistent in delivering at least one Zelda game per year, so sure. I’d expect plenty of stuff in-between. New 2D installment, new warriors game, remakes, remasters etc.

BotW is rumored to be remastered for Switch 2 as well so maybe we’ll see that next year.

C button stands for “Capture”, amiright? It’s so far of that you can’t easily integrate it into the gaming experience.

For me, magnetic non-drifting joy cons and backwards compatibility (with hopefully a boost in performance) is all it needs for me to buy the S2.

I just hope that people will understand that this is a new console with new hardware power. Although Gaf will hate it for its 4K/30fps

Dude if they launch with a new 3D mario and MK9... holy fuck
Speculation: Mario Kart 9 is a launch title and Mario 3D will have a fall/winter launch just in time for a big push for the 2025 holiday season. It would make sense to release MK9 as their leading title, as MK8 Deluxe is their biggest selling title eclipsing even Mario Odyssey.
