Redditor has had physical access to a non-powered on Switch 2 (mod verified)

I doubt it's true only due it indicating that the screen will likely be 16:10. Will have issues with backwards compatibility unless they have black bars or they stretch the image
It doesn't seem likely that they'd output different aspect ratios in docked vs handheld mode, and it seems equally unlikely that either would have black bars. Then again this is Nintendo we're talking about.

I love the idea of the screen poking out and used to display things like these images. The Wii U controller did something similar, when in the charging cradel the screen would 'wake -up' and display notifications etc.

Agreed. Would be great to finally have some OS themes as well.

I don't even know why they have a section for themes on Switch when they never bothered to add anything for 8+ years..

GBA was a successful, more powerful follow up the Gameboy.

The only reason it didn't sell more was because Nintendo cut its life short to combat the PSP.

So I think Nintendo will want to basically make this console a "Switch Advance".
I never realized how short the life of the gba was.

It sold really well, and would probably have been one of Nintendo's best selling platforms if the PSP didn't exist.

But it has to be sacrificed to make the DS exist, since Nintendo didn't want the PSP to be the only 3D handheld.

I wanna know what that C button does.

The name is lame and using an incredibly old SoC is a huge disappointment for 2025.

I just really hope it has a decent amount of RAM to take it into 2030.
The fastest AMD APUs are using RDNA 3, which is just RDNA 2 from 2020, with negligible improvements. Equally Ada doesn't have any big improvements over Ampere, apart from in ray tracing (and Frame Generation), which won't be a big focus for a mobile device. T239 on 4nm or 5nm would be extremely competitive for a given TDP.

Joycons that should last longer than a month.
I really don't believe this Nintendo is notorious for wanting you to constantly buy new controllers it's a huge profit for them! So if they add Hall effects maybe the magnets fail after 3 months and refuse to attach requiring new ones lol…

I can see Mario Kart 9 launching next year, but I don't think it will be bundled outside of Black Friday.
Well yeah I don't think they'll bundle shit, at this point they'll probably remove the HDMI cable out of the box. But MK9 seems like as a launch/launch window game.

It would be stupid for Nintendo to bundle the most anticipated title for Switch 2 right off the bat with the hardware. I think Nintendo will do the exact same move as MK8D during Switch generation for MK9.

Probally an optional bundle. Like the Switch is $399 but the bundle with MK9 is $459 or something.

If they call it Switch 2, so many people on GAF and Reee will be disappointed. The most popular option for them was New Super Switch U, they were soo convinced and genuinely believed it would be a good name for the console...

I don't think they do, just people wanting it to fail before it comes out.

Mario Kart 9 is an underwhelming flagship for launch. Not that MK isn't great but MK8 was still getting new DLC and not really a game that was held back by technology in a big way.

Would have hoped by now it might be time for a follow up to Mario Odyssey or a real next gen Pokemon that actually runs okay on the hardware or something

Surely the squeal to the best selling game on the switch will have the mass market appeal and that's what you want when you launch a new console?

I'm not doubting that the game will sell well or be great. But it's precisely because the old game is still going so strong (with so much content out) that makes it a little less exciting.

But I guess let's see it. MK8 is like 10 years old now so hopefully they can make something that makes people say wow and want to put down MK8.

Completely disagree. MK8 is old as fuck and the DLC they launched were tracks directly ported from the phone app. I've been tired of that game for at least 5 years by now. Leaving that aside, MK as a franchise has universal appeal for both enthusiasts and casual audiences and it can be played solo, local multi and online. I think it's a fantastic choice for a launch game.

C button could be used to center the camera for gyro controls, c buttons stood for camera originally.
It looks to be in an awkward place for that though

Yeah, I shouldn't dismiss it before I see it. It's just not my first instinct for a marquee game, and I already have concerns that the launch line up will be thin.

While chip supply could be a factor, my main theory of the Switch 2 delays are that it was initially going to be marketed as a Pro console, with a true successor later that was maybe less Switch-like.

So it initially would have focused more on playing Switch games with an enhanced experience rather than new exclusive games. But when they scrapped the other thing they made the Switch Pro the new gen, but they needed actual next gen software ready, hence delays.

Easy fix. Karts can fly this time.

MK9 rumours seem more likely with these last accessory leaks
MK9 pretty much confirmed then. Holy i cant wait. I really hope they improved the fucking online for that console

yup. I am proud to say that I didn't pay for even a single month of NSO so far, because it's so shit that simply out of principle I refuse.

even their retro selection is shit as their emulators are worse than homebrew ones, which is not a joke... it's a whole comedy special.

Nah, the emulators are good with a nice selection of games now. It's not 2018 anymore.

Is it really a c design on that button or just a non descript circular indent just like on the button on the opposite side that appears like a c from the original photo angle/quality that has since been put as a full proper c in all the mock ups that followed? Or were there better shots provided since this?

still worse than homebrew
I mean, that's the case for every system that doesn't have Xbox style backwards compatibility stuff (and just cos Xbox emulation isn't as great). They all drip feed but that's what people voted for with their wallet. They did it right on Wii but Virtual Console wasn't given the green light forward. Sad.

huh? emulation is emulation. what does backward compatibility have to do with that? the Xbox 360 back compat stuff is also partially emulated, and og Xbox is fully emulated on modern Xbox consoles. and both are in fact better than running the games on og hardware even in 99% of cases, and better than any homebrew emulator

And yeah they all drip feed. But that's what people voted for with their wallet.

hence I refuse to support their trash NSO service... because it's trash.

It seems to very clearly be cut off like a C, whether the intention is for it to be a "C" or not is another question though. But either way it's at least not a full circle.

Nintendo acted smart by launching a remaster 8 with Switch and doing all efforts with 9 to the Switch 2

Also, Metroid Prime 4 as a launch title will basically guarantee that two games will be bought at launch

We will need Odyssey 2 by the end of the year also
