C button stands for “Capture”, amiright? It’s so far of that you can’t easily integrate it into the gaming experience.

For me, magnetic non-drifting joy cons and backwards compatibility (with hopefully a boost in performance) is all it needs for me to buy the S2.

I just hope that people will understand that this is a new console with new hardware power. Although Gaf will hate it for its 4K/30fps
There's already a capture button on the Switch 1 which is carried over to the new console.

Nintendo finally learned to stick to a single name and use numbers. Simple and effective. I was worried they might do a wii u. Hall effect sticks! No more drift finally!

It might also have built in Nintendo property leak prevention system which has informed the Nintendo ninjas who are on their way….

Doing the same thing two gens in a row hasn't worked for Nintendo since NES-SNES.

Oh well day one.
GBA was a successful, more powerful follow up the Gameboy.

The only reason it didn't sell more was because Nintendo cut its life short to combat the PSP.

So I think Nintendo will want to basically make this console a "Switch Advance".

I wish he had been able to turn it on so he could talk about the OS and performance.

Sad Season 2 GIF by Friends
As if the OS would be launch worthy at this point. MK bundle at launch is interesting. I hope it is not a clusterfuck trying to secure a preorder, but it will be.

Hall effect joycons are probably the biggest news, this shit could push other two to do the same
I've had such a hard time trying to get what Hall Effect is, first I thought it was like a corridor effect on a controller where it becomes smaller further up, but it made no sense especially referring to the sticks. Then I realized there was just this guy named Hall who invented stuff.

Pardon my bad, should have wrote HALL, not make it confusing from English perspective (I am not a native speaker).

Nah, it's just how my stupid brain works. It thought Boolean was some sort of mathematic word until I found out there was just this guy named Boole.

It looks like a stretched out Switch 1. I wasn't expecting anything revolutionary design-wise from Nintendo with the successor, but it would have been nice if there was something more to differentiate it.

The dock design doesn’t seem to line up with past leaks (or rather the crap drawing from someone who supposedly saw it):
Switch-2-Drawing-Ninspider.jpg

Looks a lot more chunky. And while the drawing is ass, they did include the new kickstand design which seems to be correct given all the other leaks.
We should know soon enough according to various leaks.

I really hope it will be named Super Nintendo Switch! 🤣

And on possible MK9, If Mario Kart 8, an originally Wii U 10 yrs old game, still looks georgeus (specially on OLED model), im really hyped on what will be achieved on a possible MK 9 on Switch 2.

Super Switch would be such an amazing name for the successor, but I understand that could cause some confusion to parents
Nintendo can officially call it whatever they want, I will refer to mine as Super Switch god dammit lol.

I dunno. "Super" as a prefix for next gen hardware only sounds good to older gamers, and then only thanks to nostalgia. While it wouldn't be as confusing as the Wii U, it would sound dated to the majority of buyers in 2025.

Devil's advocate to my own point though, they could *maybe* get away with it thanks to the Super Mario Bros, but why risk potential confusion.

Either a clear sequel like "Switch 2" or a clean break/new branding like "Nintendo Snap" is the way to go, IMO.

I'd say it's pretty accurate. Hard to say when the angle is directly from the front, but the curves match very well even though it isn't 1:1.

My biggest problem with the name: How will publishers adress this in their games?

Super Nintendo era: We got Super Soccer, Super Tennis, etc.
N64: Quest 64, Mario 64…
Game Cube: … ok maybe this is not working like I intended
Wii: Wii sports
Wii U: Zombie U
Switch: 1,2, Switch

They won't need to, since the vast majority of third party games will be multiplatform and not named after a specific console.

I doubt it's true only due it indicating that the screen will likely be 16:10. Will have issues with backwards compatibility unless they have black bars or they stretch the image

This is also where I called BS. It switches video to TV and changes aspect ratio? I mean sure it could, but would they give themselves and all developers this headache to worry it? Placement of stuff around the screen, UI? Even a subtle change means you have to pay attention to making it now. Probably easier just to toss the exact same thing onto TV, with GPU boost...

I just think someone drawing it would make sure to highlight/make it very apparent that the dock does not cover the entire unit.

This drawing is pretty much the only leak of the dock we’ve had which makes the dock specifically extremely easy to fake compared to everything else if you’re attempting to fool people.

Ah yes, you're right. I didn't consider that the dock and the Switch 2 in the drawing were to "scale" with eachother. I was mostly just focusing on the drawing of the dock itself and I know I would draw it similarly with my paltry drawing skills. But yeah, it doesn't match up if it's basically the same size as the Switch.

It would make sense for them to launch with an LCD and OLED model. It would shift more units by making the LCD look like a better deal for parents looking to buy one for their kids, and it keeps the enthusiasts happy who don't care about paying more for a great display.

The name is lame and using an incredibly old SoC is a huge disappointment for 2025.

I just really hope it has a decent amount of RAM to take it into 2030.

It has 12 GB of RAM, though some will be saved for the operating system.

And yes the SoC will be quite old, as they seem to be sitting on it to keep costs down (or to get it onto a better node).

Either way, it should benefit from being an SoC specifically designed for Nintendo, unlike the X1.

Its' C for captcha. Instead of Denuvo, you have to press your thumb every hour to make sure it's you playing the game.
On the contrary, you need to keep it pressed while playing, and cannot release it for more than 10 seconds.

Technically you can tell them to draw a 16:10 but place UI elements inside a 16:9 rectangle during dock and let the Switch make the crop.

It would be a bit depressing if even Nintendo renounced to try some new gimmicks and just decided to wallow in the complete stagnation of the industry. For better or worse, even when their gimmicks didn’t exactly put the world on fire, they would gradually creep into what we now consider gaming standards. But I see how that would be extremely risky at the moment.

But if they just iterate on the concept of the current Switch, they will have to fight against gamers’ inertia.
How fast can a new Mario Kart pull sales of the new system, when MK8 just recently received its last DLC and it’s going to be fully backwards compatible?
Why would many people jump onto the new system right away, when the old one is clearly going to be supported for a while longer and it will still get some esclusive games?

The dock isn't the size of the Switch 2.

I don’t see it. But it’s all just rumors and leaks being jumbled together.

Had I drawn it and the dock was significantly smaller, I’d had drawn it to look smaller and more slim, not to look nearly identical to the current dock with a thicker and protruding back.

But that’s just my opinion.

The general position of the industry means that sort of innovation is a lot riskier than in the 00s.

Nintendo could make the DS and Wii and reasonably expect third parties to create many exclusives for these devices. But now the days of third party exclusives are pretty much done. So any platform Nintendo/Sony/MS makes, has to support the industry standard of controls/features.

Any innovation has to be on top of these standardised features (like what the dual sense and joy cons do).

What will lead people to jump to Switch 2 will be all the games that are available on Switch 2 but not on Switch (plus the overall performance increase).
