I know. Unfortunately that fake has made people cautious (which isn't a bad thing in its own right) to believe anything - regardless of the outlet, its reputation, or the quality of the source.

There's always a place for rational skepticism. After all, no one outlet or reporter, however prestigious, is completely infallible.

However, when WSJ, Eurogamer, IGN, MCV, LPVG, Tweaktown, Semiaccurate, etc. have all independently corroborated the hybrid reports, it's not really about rational skepticism anymore.

SMD is mind-boggling. I can understand him clinging hard to what he has reported if he has multiple "devs" (in his mind) telling him this. Understandable.

But his logic at times is bizarre. For instance, he's now saying the 6.2-inch screen would be "too big for Japan" and is saying that since automobile displays are 6.2 inches, that's where the report came from and it was a mistake. That makes no sense whatsoever.

That wouldn't give Nintendo enough time to hype up the NX for March.

Yes, but at this point I'm just expecting the worst.

I would bet on at least one of:
- Eurogamer
- WSJ
- Emily Rogers
- Let's Play Video Games
- MCV

Getting something significantly wrong in their reporting. Not saying they're completely wrong, just it's doubtful everything they've reported all turns out to be accurate.

It's more likely that important details are missing. It might feel like we know everything, but there are clearly holes to be filled.

I don't think Pikmin 4 should be considered a real game yet, but just a tech demo they've got a couple of people fooling around with. Remember Pikmin 3 was confirmed in 2008, then first shown in 2012 and released in 2013.

"It's actually very close to completion," Miyamoto said. "Pikmin teams are always working on the next one."

Nintendo then confirmed the news to Eurogamer in a separate statement:

"We can confirm that Pikmin 4 is in development but that is all we can confirm at present."

These type of statements from Nintendo developers haven't been very reliable in the past. They tend to announce anticipated games before they've even got a team together. I wouldn't put much faith in the original "close to completion" quote.

Ps4 had 6 months and that seems to be doing well.

I expect it to be announced before the Holidays in the attempt to get people to withhold some dollars or nab some preorders, but at the same time I think a January blowout and a steady stream of information until a late March release would be compressed enough to build sustained momentum. I think a six month information cycle usually has periods where it seems like new information stops after the the initial reveal to a trickle until the last few months leading to release anyways.

March is tax refund time in the US, so it really isn't a bad time for a console release, especially if the price is within impulse territory ($250 and less) and there is a decent amount of software primed for launch. It seems like NX is aiming for all of that.

Personally I think it's very possible for the NX to have a not so great battery life, considering all the stuff inside of it. But I'm no expert in this area.

Right--I'm just using the logic of a Pascal with 60% power reduction compared to the chip currently in the devkit along with a fan.

How would she even know the power draw at that point? It doesn't make any sense. It goes against what NateDrake is saying against Pascal, and I believe Nate. I think it is much more likely she was told what the current devkit gets.

It might not be that big if they go for thin bezels. Their partner on LCD panels, Sharp, have the tech for ultra-thin bezels. We've also heard that their won't be a camera on the handheld, so the hope for thin bezels may not be in vain.

If Nintendo do use thin bezels, the height of the device would be comparable to a 3DS XL: About 3.5".

But that wasn't a result of him getting his source verified, it was a result of his information being accurate. If he had never verified his source with bish, it wouldn't have changed him getting a visit. To be fair, he also made a big hubbub of also wanting to get his source about FFXV on NX verified, and never actually did it. Had plenty of time to verify the new guy though. Wouldn't be the first time SMD said he wanted someone verified without actually doing it.

It is sad but also probably business smart. Battery life is nothing that you can sell any device on (except a battery pack itself obviously) as proven by Apple and others.
It is the very same with backwards compatibility: Just nice to have really but the instant it produces problems with things that have higher priority (price for example) it is thrown out of the window and only a few GAFfers will shed a tear.
