Conway was making a hopeless argument as I mentioned earlier today, but at the crux of this entire issue is this, and it's very simple:
According to James Clapper, allegations were included in the brief not because they made a judgement that they were true, but that they had an "obligation" to share with him anything potentially damaging and related to the brief - a brief that was not based on the allegation themselves but Russia as a whole.
CNN publishes it because "the IC including it in a debrief is relevant." Correct. It is fair and arguably just on that basis alone.
So if there was a debrief in 2008 for e.g. death threats made against President-elect by far right groups who allege he was a Kenyan Muslim, could the intelligence community therefore have included any dossier or allegation that Obama was born in Kenya? Considering that evidence doesn't seem to be a prerequisite according to Clapper, it is possible.
Now, if Fox News then published that Bush was debriefed on allegations that Obama was foreign born, and did so with no evidence, would that not be reasonably comparable to this?
I genuinely can't see an opposing argument to this unless I consider there is evidence out there that these allegations are true. But I want to stick to what we know for sure so far.
Taking this with a boulder sized grain of salt.
I would imagine all of them have long disappeared.

Theoretically though if that bit can be verified then it makes the claims far more credible and I would think would warrant action in some way.
That said I expect nothing.

Merkel is in Germany though? Unless I'm missing something, I don't know how this has to do with it? Netherlands is also seeing a surge of far-right fools, though.

I don't think Presidents/VPs/Pres-Elects are briefed on non-credible info. Nor are there generally House briefings for obviously false and incorrect info. Would be quite the waste of time.

Not saying she has anything to do with the paper, I am talking about just general digging that you're seeing coming out of Europe, and statements from BBC about how other "agencies" in Europe have similar information.
