Resident Evil 2 Remake |OT| Party like it's 1998

Seriously what the fuck is the point here? Running from everything and solving obscure statue puzzles? I know this game was the shit twenty fucking years ago, but....

Well the game is survival horror and usually the point is trying to survive here.
Don’t get me wrong everything is executed incredibly well. I’m just not sure if this game is for me.

Definitely wouldn’t mind running around blasting shit but the whole “run from everything” vibe is beginning to get really annoying.

For me i need to struggle in survival horror games or there is no point. If I can clear every enemy in the area then you no longer "surviving" and instead you are just playing much more slow version of Doom.

Can someone please point towards a couple of things without too much spoilers? I´m looking for generator parts to open a door in the garage and I have found some parts that I connected but it doesn´t work. I think I need a circuit board or a panel to complete the task.
Clover Key + Records Room= ????

I'm assuming you got the first and closest electronic part already

Do both yourself and the readers of this forum a favor:

Put the game down. Play something else. Come back to it when you have a more patient and open mindset regarding what the game has to offer.

You can't blame the game for not carrying wares it never advertised.

Agreed. Maybe playing the more recent RE’s sold me on a more action oriented series.

May not be a bad idea, either that or I could force myself to keep playing! Usually not a good idea.

Two words: "Git Good".

Seriously, you are playing a survival horror game. You need to survive, manage resources, and make sure every bullet hits. Not that difficult, all told.

I've never seen Mr X in that hallway myself. Irons office is the "safe room" there. I know he can use the wall between
the interrogation hall and the press room
, but personally I've never had it happen. He followed you up the ladder, then went downstairs to the interrogation hall while you were in the safe room I think. I wondered who was causing the sound of a door not opening then bursting open, so the door above the ladder might be a one-time, "Mr X takes a minute to open this" even because of players who run back there?
Yeah I figured as much, I just didn't expect the master tactician to be hiding underneath for no reason.

I remember him busting through the press room wall in the original I think, haven't seen it in this game though.

I found the right path now. I went to a room which I hadn´t checked properly due to my poor status and zombies all over the place, but I finally managed to prevail. Thank you for taking the time to help, though.

And I survived. I can´t believe I survived. I´m on red, making my way to the garage when Mr X punches through a wall making me soil myself, he misses his swing by an inch and I run like hell to escape him. And when I´m almost through to the garage this one last zombie stands in the hallway and moans, and I try to run past him but he grabs my neck and I think I´m done for. But lo and behold, I survive and can finally get some rest and save in the garage. Holy shit I´m lucky. But I probably have to start a new game because I can´t see myself going through this with no health and barely any ammo (although I managed to grab some gunpowder and make some shotgun shells). This entire run has been survival horror with a capital S. Can´t complain on that.

All the shit I´ve been through the last couple of hours is like being transported back to 1998. This was exactly how it was playing OG RE 2 back in the day. No ammo, no health, no nothing, just run past everything hoping you make it. Damn, gives me the shivers.

Only thing I have run from is Mr X. Everything else dies.

Only ran low on ammo after Birkin for a bit. Storage is stuffed with Health Items.

Did you find the jack handle and go thru the library to the 3rd floor and then the clock tower?

Just finished Leon's Campaign. If it wasn't because of KH3 tomorrow, I would dive right in into Claire's scenario.

I'll speak as someone who didn't play the original back in the day.

Had a blast with the game. Very well executed in terms of survival, atmosphere and gameplay. RE Engine is fantastic.

Tried to explore as much as possible but there are areas that I missed, and didn't found one of the keys.

Mr. X is great, well balanced and he is there to give you some extra tension moments. Every time de SOB appeared I panicked.

End game boss battle are difficult. Had to do the last one only with handgun bullets and only with one herb, because the previous one drain me out.

Puzzles lack more complexity in my opinion.

While not as iconic as REmake, at least for me (it's very, very difficult to beat that mansion), this remake manages to re-ignite the survival genre in a amazing way, having in mind today's standards.

I played with unlimited saves, but with the ribbon system this game shines even more.

Well done Capcom, give me RE3 remake now.

Well I've beaten the game 3 times this weekend. S+ on hardcore will be no joke. I did make a safety save before facing the ending. I could cut about 10 minutes off from forgetting 1 or 2 things completely. Could cut a chunk off by not going for resources before lab, but damn it might be tight. And another few by knowing the lab passwords beforehand. Dunno if I'm going to play anymore for a while. Played way too much this weekend. The bad part is I'm obviously going to need warm up again if I stop playing for a while...

It is funny all the complaints I've seen here from Mr. X. He makes the game so much more suspenseful, I love it.

In fact, I would like for him to RUN at you when he sees you, that would make me shit my pants. I hope Capcom does make Nemesis run at you in RE3 Remake, obviously making it gameplay viable.

This.

If you are careful with your resources, you can take down mostly everything the game throws at you - at least on Easy or Standard.

May not be a bad idea, either that or I could force myself to keep playing! Usually not a good idea.

If it helps, I always do this when I play a new RE Survival Horror title:

I play the game for a few hours, and after exploring the first ten rooms, learning the gist of the combat (aiming, critical hits) and prepare myself better for those encounters that cost me a lot of resources because I wasn't prepared for, I then restart the game, armed with that knowledge. I always find myself with more ammo and health items in the second playthrough attempt and beat the game.

Anyone gotten attacked by two zombies at once? The animation is so awesome. The first one grabbed me and then the second one piled on. Wasn’t expecting that.

Just finished Leon’s campaign. Coming from a huge RE fan, who’s favourite is RE2, this was pretty damn rock solid stuff. Early Game of the Year contender, just like 7 was for me when it came out. I think it tops REMake, mostly because it truly updated RE2’s formula - this is survival horror resurrected. Love that individual zombies can be huge threats, love that lickers are fucking horrifying, and that the bosses make me panicky as hell. Best RE since four. Once I finish the next play through, we’ll see where it stacks in my list of favourites!

Yes, this happened to me. After it is “installed” remove ALL of the DLC, then reinstall them all. Let the console sit while it installs and tells you the content is ready, then restart the game. Fixed it for me. It was super annoying. It took a while for the DLC to reinstall too.

Fuck. I tried this and it didn’t work. I’m going to reinstall the game, delete the DLC, restart the Xbox, reinstall the game, restart the Xbox, and then reinstall the DLC.

FYI: the DLC did work for me for a little bit, but then it stopped for no reason whatsoever.

There's no point. You run around in circles and in the end you die. It's a metaphor of life.

so many memories coming back of me spending most of my game with 2 bullets in my pistol and no other ammo and me trying to get through a room of zombies

Man, this game is just so satisfying. Capcom really did a great job of creating something new that also feels like old times.

After playing the game for two straight days with two trophies away from the platinum and with the hype gone i think my feelings are mixed for this game.

From one hand i loved the fact that i got the chance to see all the locations i remembered from my childhood playthrough in todays graphics, i really felt like a little kid while i was playing the game and all the new stuff they added but at the same time it left a bitter taste.

I miss the trasformations, cutscenes that explain who is MisterX and why he exists, more stuff about Birkin, more stuff about everyone actually.

What i hated the most though was the absence of the zapping system. It felt really akward to visit the same locations on the scenario b and find everything at the same spots they previously where. It was that point that i started feeling disconnected from the game, it felt like the two heroes jumped to separete universes. I know that i'm probably the minority here and i don't want to be hated for my opinion but i feel that while the Remake was really good as a remake, it was also a big missed opportunity on many fronts.

I would say that in the end the game felt like an amazing fanmade project, if it makes any sense. I should add that the only video or picture i've ever seen for the remake prior it's release was the reveal trailer only, so maybe it's my fault for not knowing what to expect exactly.

Sorry for my bad english.

Also protip, Mr.X doesn't start in scenario B until you
Enter the STARS office
which means you can do everything short of acquiring the medal from the goddess statue before ever activating him. Which means he's only around for a few minutes, though getting that medal is murder room. I'm 90% sure he just teleports to fuck you over when you go for it. Make sure you move the bookcases so you only need to make 2 more movements when you finally get around to using the jack.

It has been a few years since I last played RE2. I need a reminded of the differences between A and B.

I do remember there were unique parts even at the end of the game like entering the lab in B scenario. I have noticed that the only area design difference in this game is the beginning here before you go under the statue, but I felt like RE2 original was the same when I think back on it. Extra enemies are placed. Less ammo is supplied. Really [2nd] seems like a last minute addition to the game, to continue the difficulty curve and give you a reason to play as the other character. It's a mix of RE1 and RE2 in that way.

What i really loved on the original was the fact that i could leave ammo or weapons for the scenario b character to pick. It was a small thing but it really added on the experience that the two heroes are trying to survive by helping each other.

On the remake i just felt that they fight only for themselves.

Hearing people complain about Mr.X is a head scratcher for me. I did Leon A on hardcore and pretty much ended up exploring the police station in the worst possible order so that big ass trenchcoat wearing motherfucker was chasing me around for a good 1,5 hours while I frantically scavenged what I could and tried to avoid getting my butt licked by those damn roof-dwellers and it was one of the most rad gaming experiences I´ve had since forever.

AV

We ain't outta here in ten minutes, we won't need no rocket to fly through space
Got it Friday, played it to death over the weekend, could not put it down. They've absolutely nailed the "keep things faithful while injecting enough new stuff to make it interesting" that I was hoping for. Did Leon A in 6 hours and Claire B in 5, helped that I'm "used to" Resident Evil 2 I guess. Game seemed easier in the A route with the overwhelming amount of health/ammo pickups but B definitely stepped it up a little. I might have hung onto the game and done some hard more / S rank runs but I've got too much other stuff to play, will definitely come back at a later date.

Mr. X is one of the best parts of the game and it's hilarious watching people complain about him.

It's also kinda funny seeing all the people that haven't played the old RE games try this. "What, I can't just pick up that key and move it to that door? I have to drop something?" "How does the same boss die twice in two different ways in the same story?"

Oh, and it's kind of a shame that the spiders were cut, I didn't get poisoned once in both playthroughs, anyone else notice that?

Yep, it seemed like there was no point for the anti poison herbs to exist.... The only item that can seem to poison is the guys in the sewers if you get hit by the torpedos they spit out. Maybe spiders were cut from the game at some point.

Besides in CV (goddamn moths & poison hunters), poison is rarely an issue in any RE game. Sucks that they removed the spiders, though even if they were sort of unless in the classic game. I think this game technically has less enemy types than the original game.

Right? Whole 1st and 2nd are basically the same this time. Hell, we don't even have to get to the RPD, the character already starts there. Sure, it was a short trip on the original, but you did get to see some new scenes, like how and why the chopper crashed, the Tyrant arriving...

Loved how Annette and Marvin are more fleshed out this time, but everything else feels like a step back.

Mochilador

Why is the Tyrant called Mr X? I always remember him having that name but I don't remember where it came from.
Maybe I saw it in some magazine.

Anyone calling for an RE4 remake is a fake fan.

Finished Leon B last night, really miss my anime OVA level closure. Felt like a Netflix original closing scene.

It feels so good to play a real survival horror game. I hope this sells gangbusters and sends a message to developers. My hope is that it inspires konami to remake the first silent hill with the fox engine. Mr X didn't really bother me. I was always aware of where he was. But i can see how it would suck if you are totally lost and looking for stuff.

I love a good model gallery. Must have spent an hour in there last night inspecting every little detail they have to offer.

Great stuff!

Mr X is like the alien in Alien Isolation. At first you're like "oh shit" and after a while you're "not you again...".

Finished Leon's campaign. Loved it. The only thing i didn't enjoy, though i understand why it's like that, was the boss fights. The controls are too tanky when you need to move fast and dodge.

Don't know if I'm a genius or not but an eternal trick I discovered myself;

When you set the detonator, if you stand between the bookcase that falls over and go through the door to the library just as it blows, the bookcase never falls over and you can walk back into the room. I'm so sure it teleported Mr.X away because he had to have been on my ass there everytime.... and his pathing must have went bonkers for a sec as the bookcase cuts off his line to you or something as the game thinks you've suddenly appeared in the library for a split second.

It's a life saver in [2nd] because it's a total dead-end with Mr.X and a licker might appear too? Honestly can't remember. Point being it means you don't have to lift the bookcase to leave so you can hightail it right to the statue and insert the last piece. Also gives you time to kill the zombie who hangs out of the ceiling after you place the detonator. I swear to god this trick is going to be a staple in every speedrun. You'll thank me later.

When I took the secret passage back to the police station to grab some hidden goodies, X was nowhere to be found. Really I only dealt with him for a pretty short amount of time. He’s not in the sewers for example.

With what you read on here, Reee and Reddit it's like he breaks and ruins the whole experience. Yeah sure I guess if you decide to go explore and collect all the items and shit while he’s around. :messenger_expressionless:

If you grab everything as you go and make every room you can 100% explored by the time you really run into him, you shouldnt have any problems.

Cool tip about the detonator room. I take it you are talking about scenario B.
It would be good to know about Mr. X trigger points. He's hardly in Leon A and he didn't seem to turn up for a while in Claire B for me. Perhaps in B not looking at the computer screen in the main hall delays him?
The only time I was sure he would turn up is when
you pull the valve for the helicopter fire, that's the first time he appears in A.

You only have to do the detonator with Mr.X chasing you in Scenario B/[2nd].

Mr.X doesn't appear in B until you either enter and
leave the STARS office or walk passed the STARS office.
You can collect everything you wish and only have to contend with him to place the detonator and pickup the last medallion from the goddess statue, which is why the bookcase glitching is such a big help. You could go to the STARS office and then to the goddess statue and possibly never get cornered by him.
