Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition PC

Capcom is in a weird place when it comes to their PC ports aren't they? Some stuff gets ported, some stuff gets the HD treatment, and then you have stuff that's ignored like Dragon's Dogma.

Good for people who haven't played a HD version of it, or going through the hassle to mod the original port, but honestly the original modded looked way better imho.

Really nice. I played the entire thing in split screen on max settings on a 5870. It was a very smooth experience. The actual game ran better than the benchmark test. (Which is something I've noticed with every Capcom game ever). This was on an old C2D @ 3.16ghz, I should add.

Ah sweet, so the page on pcgamingwiki about it having poor performance is just bullshit?

That's because Capcom makes some badass PC ports. Some of the best actually. Anyone playing on PC for the last couple of years know how awesome they are when it comes to the PC options.

I still can't believe how fucking smooth DMC4 is on PC. Looks and runs like a dream. They definitely don't take their PC ports lightly.

Would rather have a 3DS/Vita version of the game at this point, but eh. Will probably pick up during a sale. $20 is a bit steep for a game as old and as widely available on other platforms as RE4.

I still don't understand why this never got a physical disc release when it was released on PSN/XBLA. Is the PC version digital only too?

Then games like DuckTales gets a disc version. Makes 0 sense.

I got super excited upon seeing the tweet, but afrter the trailer I kinda realised it looks like it's simply a port of the console HD-editions, albeit with the ability to run at higher than 720p resolutions.

If Capcom went all out and maybe re-textured, or remodelled, and did in-engine cut0scenes I'd maybe be interested, but I have a feeling it will just be a lazy port.

But by all means, I am ready for Capcom to surprise me.

Almost positive this is exactly what it'll be. The console HD ports aren't bad at all, but the textures weren't touched and look pretty blurry up close. The art style for the game is so good that it's hard to mind, though.

I just finished this for the first time the other day. Fantastic game. Going to be starting my Professional playthrough soon!

So they already had this game on PC and it was a piss poor port and now people are jumping for joy that they can now fork over more cash for a (possibly) competent version?

Well I have never bought the terrible port and glad a good version (assuming) is actually available and on steam, and I have the option to buy it during a steam sale for a few dollars.

why couldn't they just make RE1-3 in HD for PC instead?? Darn RE4 done frigging came out on everything including microwaves and toasters. Plus it hardly looks different from the Wii version with HD textures on Dolphin.

Emulation doesn't make them any more money and the people who do it are the tiniest fraction of their consumer base. Why would Dolphin figure into their decision making at all?

And of course RE1-3 use prerendered backgrounds and would look like crap, so...

I already have this so pre-ordering for the soundtrack isn't an incentive.

I hope there's a demo or even better a benchmark since my PC is pretty old.

I think I may pass on this one. It's great to have it on PC and all, but I already own the Gamecube version, PS2 version, and PS3 version, so I think I'm good for now.

Although, I'd be tempted if they did a PS4 version, and I could upgrade my PS3 version to it.

I love RE4, but I think I've bought it enough times!

For now...

What's with the negativity here? Capcom's PC ports for the past few years have been great. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.

I am really excited for this as re4 is one of my favorite games and this will be great to have in my steam library rather than tied to a console that's going to go in the closet.

Give me it already! God, last time I played it was on the PS2, I expect to be blown away again, it's gonna be GLORIOUS!

This is pre-MT Framework, which is the reason Capcom's PC ports have been great.

The only thing that grabbed my attention was 60fps since everything else can be achieved with mods.

Steam achievements, cloud saving, steam trading cards, etc :p

But besides that, my point was more that the vast majority of people don't know or want to fuck around with mods.

Having a real 'ultimate' version on Steam is great, even if it doesn't do much for you specifically.

Does RE4 have co-op?

No.

Regarding modded textures - I'm often not a fan of them, as they sometimes tend to be merely "noisier" hi-res textures, or worse, a completely different texture from what the original texture was. Sometimes they end up being distracting when a new texture is alongside an older, untouched texture.

Basically, even if the textures are PS2-level, I won't be crying bloody murder.

EDIT: That's not to say that I want the PS2 textures. I'd VASTLY prefer the GC game as a base (who wouldn't?), but I'm just throwing out the PS2 to make a point on fan textures.

Are you implying this is somehow an irrational response to a bad version being replaced by a (probably) good one? I doubt many people bought the original port.

Have the textures had a sharpening filter applied to them or is that how they originally looked? I'm seeing artefacts but that may just be down to age.

Can anyone deduce if this is the Cube/Wii version? I remember the Ps2 version, amonst many concessions, thinned out the trees in the walk up to the house at the beginning. All I'm saying is I hope this is really the 'ultimate' one, and that it'll maybe see console release too. It's a game that, like FFVI, deserves that kind of immaculate treatment enjoyed by classic movies when they're remastered.

(edit) ^ seems it's using some GC assets? Could be a bit of a blend of both.
