Resident Evil 8: Village |OT| Dat Atmosphere is THICC

I'm still trying to find the "Resident Evil" part of the game, I'm fragging some completely random cyborgs in the meantime tho.

And right on queue Best Buy misses the release day delivery for me , the fuckers. Usually they are good about it in the past but I hardly preorder anymore. The shit of it is the damn steel book I dont care about arrived on time but the game says Monday .

This blows , I was hoping to make some headway on this game this weekend. Have fun everyone.

So I just started playing, on Hardcore too because people said the game was easy. I keep dying on the first part right after you get the Shotgun. Are you supposed to somehow kill all the enemies or is there a place you can escape to? I feel I’m missing something.
No, you aren't supposed to kill all of them. You just need to survive for a while until a cutscene triggers. Just run around using explosive barrels to kill as many as you can. I also think you need to die for the cutscene to trigger. I got overwhelmed by lycans when it triggered.

Also, that was the hardest part of the game for me so far (I'm around 5 hours in, killed the first main boss). It gets easier once you get more weapons and throwables + access to the shop. I'd say stick with it since the game seems to be balanced around hardcore. It feels like a true survival horror game with very limited resources on harcore.

That part is extremely annoying. There is no escape, but you can barricade yourself in some rooms (or under one house) for a short while. A cutscene triggers in about 5 minutes (there may be other conditions, such as having meet the big guy and moved around multiple house interiors).

The game gets much easier after that (but you'll need to dodge as many enemies as possible since resources are scarce in hardcore), at least for a while.

in my opinion that battle is probably the hardest in the game so far. Im like 70% of the way through it(Dont judge me I got the weekend off and the wife went shopping with her mother lol)...The way I beat it was to kill some of the enemies and then just HIDE and dodge like others said. After like 3 to 5 minutes the game will trigger a cut scene and take over, but you have to last for awhile it seems. Tons of folks around the net asking the same question and the best I've seen is to just try and stay alive smh lol

Run like your life depended on it, cause it does lol.

I know that hardcore is not that hard

in combat department

but for me I played re3 remake on hardcore mode and yes it was not that hard but no resources at all sometimes Im stuck cause of big enemies and I have nothing but a kinfe

it is annoying

cause of that I decided to do my first playthrough on normal for re8

I don't want to deal with that at least on my first play through

Target did the same to me for my Xbox version. If it makes you feel better, I switched to Target to avoid Best Buy screwing me over. Worked out perfectly, right? :messenger_loudly_crying:

Since i have a 3090, Geforce Experience recommended i set the IQ (resolution scaling) to 2.0 or 200% @ 4k with RT max on !!!!

Got a 3090, too. It runs buttery smooth with everything cranked up. I saw VRAM allocation at +12GB.

So far so good, very good in fact.

I got up to beating the first major boss and back to the main Village, really enjoying this so far, a slow start compared to 7 but there's so much here

I have to say the enemy variety is way better than in RE7. Area variety aswell. Its definitely not as scary since it leans more towards the fantastical instead of delivering a grounded (or expected) experience that resident evil is known for.

The first main boss was incredible, not gonna spoil anything but it was totally unexpected. I'm glad I went in blind for this one.

This might be my favorite game this year so far and the best survival horror game since Remake 2.

Game is running fine maxed on my 3090, but if you alt-tab from the game it disables HDR and you can't change it back until you restart the game. When you go back in HDR is not selected so you have to re-enable it and then it works.

What a dick move that you can't return

To the castle dumitrescu after beating its lord. I immediately knew I missed the treasure map puzzle, which should be in the dungeons. And the labyrinth I forgot.

I realized it too late.

Played for about 3 hours (Steam) but need a bit of sleep to get through work tomorrow today. Got through 1 winnable boss (?) encounter with the first daughter and now have Lady D stalking me outside a save room a la Mr. X. It's a solid game and I'm enjoying it but there's very little tension. And I'm a giant wimp with first person horror. It doesn't detract from the game for me but if you're hoping for some scares, you're going to be severely disappointed.

Also, this game was 110% prep for RE4 remake.
Heh, wait for Benevientos section...

So I'm playing on hard and I am stuck on the first, big encounter. I tried it, round about, sixty times, haha. Will give it another shot tomorrow, before I probably switch to normal.

I’m enjoying this way more than I did 7.

does anyone know of you miss out on somethings by selling the treasures and crystallized enemies you get or are they solely for profit?

By the way there are treasure you shouldn't sell straight away, like the silver ring. I agree about Heisenberg VA, he's the worst while Lady D is flawless.

Speaking of, she found out I am seeing someone else

So far, I am really enjoying the game but I do feel that the game may suffer from the "Far Cry 3" effect. Spoiler below, read at risk.

Disappointing that Lady D boss fight is so early in the game. Fun though, consider Capcom hyping the shit out of it. Unless there is another encounter later in the game like Jack from RE7 where you fight him 3 times.

It's not fault of marketing. It's fault of "the meme". If You watch the trailers again, she is not exactly a center of attention

8 hours in (13 according to steam lol how).
Man, fuck this "doll" boss puzzle room shit. It's just as bad as Lucas crap in RE7.
I don't know why they keep adding these sections. They remove all your weapons and you have to do something tedious.
Adding a dream/"in you head" stuff only makes it worse. I like RE as survival and horror game IN THE WORLD. No paranormal stuff. Virus creating vampires? Fantast. Dream/paranormal crap? NO.
Also agree on Van Helsing looking guy. Voice is just annoying and cocky but in a bad way like Lucas was in re7.

Overall? Fantastic game. I am really impressed so far.

Damned if we do , damned if we don't I guess.
The funny thing is the tracking info said both were out for delivery today , then just the steel book was delivered but still said the game was on track for today . Checked an hour later and it said Monday and it's like 1/3 of the country away , lol. I don't get why they didn't just ship both items together. Oh well. Wonder if best buy will throw a $5 or $10 credit my way if I complain ? Probably not worth the effort though.

The low FOV fucking sucks on console, you even have to look down/up to find things in the rooms, it's actually first time ever, I have some slight discomfort playing this. But I really like this game.

They'll throw you a bone, but do you feel like even contacting them? Not sure 5 or 10 is worth it.

Yeah probably not since I only buy once or twice a year from BB.
I will be physical for life but that's the one thing the digital folks can definitely boast about is the guarantee they get to play on release day. I buy so few games on release it's a rare inconvenience for me , but I would be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to digging in tonight and this weekend.

I'm a little bit into the Castle on Hardcore, and I've decided to switch to Normal. Not that it's too difficult for me, but enemies are waaaaaaaay too bullet spongey, to the point where I'm running from almost every fight because I don't know how much ammo will be needed to fight bosses. When I do decide to fight, enemies are taking 10-12 headshots before going down. That is insane, even by Resident Evil standards. It's kinda ruining the experience for me, which I don't want it too because I'm loving everything else about the game. So I"m switching to Normal. After that I'll at least know the game and the boss encounters, so Hardcore won't be bullshit.

Playing on Hardcore for my first playthrough and the initial Lycan attack was ROUGH. Took me like 10 tries to finally get the cutscene rolling because I was being stingy with ammo (like you should be in an RE game). Well, turns out you don't have to be stingy with ammo at all in this one. It still benefits you to run past an enemy instead of wasting ammo when possible (obviously), but I've been mowing down the majority of enemies I've come across and still have a ton of ammo to spare.

Currency also seems to be flowing freely, because I've got more Valuables to sell than I have things to buy lmao. Speaking of which, are there any Valuables that should be saved for a puzzle or something? I seem to recall that being the case for select treasures in RE4, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Good this gives me hope that a hardcore run first try should be the way to go for me.

Not sure on this one . But in Re4 no treasures were used in puzzles. But you did want to save treasures to affix jewels and whatnot later on . So treasure like the beer stein and butterfly lamp you want to hold on for a while.

Ah yes, that's what it was! It's been a very long time since i played 4 so my memory was off lol.

Wait really? My experience on hardcore has been the opposite. Enemies on Hardcore absolutely SOAK damage, even with consistent headshots.

Well yeah, that's how Hardcore is in RE games. RE2R was the same - super tanky enemies that force you to use your ammo instead of stockpiling it. But in this game, the crafting materials to make more ammo (and valuables to sell to buy ammo) drop from enemies pretty consistently so I haven't had ammo issues about 7 hours in and past the first "big" baddie of the game.

I also use the knife when given the opportunity, like if I shoot a weapon out of an enemies hands because their blocked attacks do way less damage that way I think.

So far castle has been my least favorite setting. Love how the village is designed in Winters time.

Oh you’re 7 hours in. It sounded like you were still in the first hour and had plentiful amounts of ammo

My mistake, that was my Steam timer. I just checked and my save time is currently 4:24.

Let's just put it this way: I had more than enough ammo to get me through the beginning of the game, and up to where I am now. If I can do it, you can too. Don't give up.

You’ve encouraged me to keep playing on Hardcore lol. Thanks. I’m still in the earlier stages of the Castle. 100+ pistol ammo and 15 shotgun shells. Goddamn do the enemies eat the bullets for breakfast though.

Dude, you can't say that after playing Resident Evil 6 and others.
I love that about Resident Evil, the diversity of the setting and enemies, the surrealism of the whole series it was never grounded or your typical zombie game, its the B horror movie game, now its werewolves and vampires, who knows what could happen next.

You have your creepy castles and futuristic cities, werewolves, zombies and fishmen.

All part of the series charm, another zombie outbreak on a random city by a random terrorist using the same old characters has been done many times before.. And it will happen on Infinite Darkness
