Ugh this sucks. Redownloaded/installed and still getting a freeze and crash every 5 minutes or so of play. Nobody else is having any issue with the PS5 digital version?? I was hoping it'd be something widespread so it'd get fixed fast but doesn't seem like that's the case so far.
I guess I can try downloading and playing the PS4 version on the PS5 but I don't really want to do that...

Playing on PS5 bout 2 hours in..Just got to the castle. This game looks crazy good. Few frame dips in the village area and in the graveyard from the village demo. Enjoying it a lot, hasn't been too spooky so far.
When you're running from the cog guy with the hat, I had no idea what to do when you get to the spinning death trap room. I died at least 5 times and ended up looking up a walk though on YouTube. How am I supposed to know there's a human sized nook in the wall bruh. Felt like such a dork.

don't have a ps5 so I wouldn't know if the function existed but have you tried rebuilding the database?

Played for about 3 hours (Steam) but need a bit of sleep to get through work tomorrow today. Got through 1 winnable boss (?) encounter with the first daughter and now have Lady D stalking me outside a save room a la Mr. X. It's a solid game and I'm enjoying it but there's very little tension. And I'm a giant wimp with first person horror. It doesn't detract from the game for me but if you're hoping for some scares, you're going to be severely disappointed.
Also, this game was 110% prep for RE4 remake.

I cleared the cache and am now rebuilding the database. hopefully that helps. Thanks.
Edit: Nope. Same issue. Freezes after 5 minutes and sends me to the "report problem" screen. Damn.
Crashed 5 or 6 times on me. All done for now. Back to Genshin Impact. I'll try installing the PS4 version I guess later today. Sigh.

I actually tried looking for a fix on the web but surprisingly there's nothing.
There's the same issue on the maiden demo but so far there's no fix.
On that thread in reddit, people suggested it may be a hardware error but it seems other games work fine. They tried requesting a replacement anyway.
If the problem persists and doesn't get patched, I guess the last resort is asking for a console replacement if you still have warranty.

He probably means that re7 is more scary, but re8 as a game has more going on, more location variety, enemy variety, better action parts, weapon variety, boss variety, more rewarding exploration etc.

I like the setting, characters, atmosphere and combat more, and the story has me more interested to see where it goes, but 7 was much more consistently scary to me. Everywhere you went and everything you encountered in 7 was pretty unpleasant, whereas in 8 its much more mixed. Theres sections that are close to 7 in intensity, but then theres also locations that are more beautiful than scary, and enemies that are more cool and well designed than scary. Plus I think this game is more comfortable embracing the classic Resi campiness than 7 was. The Duke is comic relief, and even the leaders of the houses are more silly and/or cool than downright intimidating.
Theres just very different feels between the two games. 7 = Outlast, Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre. 8 = Resi 4 and old Hammer & Universal monster movies.

If anyone is discouraged by hardcore in the beginning, it gets easier once you find the first shop. Definitely stick with it since its a bit too easy on normal.

I was going to restart on normal since apparently, you can't change difficulty mid-game. And hardcore was kicking my ass.

How is the combat? Is it challenging enough and varied? All the shooting I ever really saw was in the basement with those hooded guys and it looked boring. But I'd love a second opinion to sway me

You need to purposely die. Fighting anything is a waste of bullets. Getting to low hp and getting last hit on you will trigger the scene.

It doesn't work. Getting to low hp and getting one last hit simply kills me. I've played the scene dozens of times now and I eventually die even after surviving 5+ minutes and killing a dozen enemies with barrels and wasting every bullet. I even tried to turtle up for minutes under the house or at the tower ladder, and still nothing. This is broken BS.

Go up the last house before the big red gate, survive the ambush which is like 2/3 villagers, ignore all villagers until you reach the top of that house

If anyone else happens to have the issue I'm having (cant play digital PS5 version as it freezes and crashes within 5 minutes) I did download and run the PS4 version on my PS5 for about half an hour with no issues. So it may just be a PS5 version issue I'm having. The PS4 version actually looks just fine btw. I just started though so no idea how it'll play in combat.

Is that the tower with a ladder? I'm already going there every playthrough. Right now my plan is:
- Go to the house with the shotgun, barricade it and grab the items, wait for enemies
- Go down under the house, grab the items there and craft ammo + health, wait for enemies
- Leave and go towards the tower house, enter and barricade it, grab ammo + stuff
- Wait until enemies enter the house, kill 3-4 with the barrel there
- Climb the ladder, wait for a bit (this is a safe spot, I tried to leave the console there for minutes, nobody can touch you; if the scene was just timed, that would help, but it doesn't)
- By this point, the giant should be around the house. I jump down towards the river.
- Then I go to the red gate and use the barrel there to kill 2-3 enemies if possible
- Then I run towards the other side of the town (sometimes impossible with the giant around), where there is a locked gate (not red).
- I usually die about this point, taking me about 4-5 minutes

I think you’re supposed to let them take you down there. Seems impossible to defeat the horde even on normal difficulty.
Btw, does anyone know why the PS5 upgrade is a 10 GB download? Can’t be all that only for 3D audio and Dualsense support...

Is the FOV really that low. Seems like every video I've seen has it around 60 or so. That's.....awful. Can it not be adjusted?

It's low but I don't think as low as re7 default was. I play on big tv on my desk and it's not bad. With re7 I felt more zoomed in

I planned on waiting to play this, but I think an FOV like that sitting at my desk with my 3440x1440 monitor would drive me nuts.
