Third Person.

Most of the reason is motion sickness, but there is also this element of me that thinks first person player are idiots like FIFA Players and COD players. It is just an unreasonable association on my end I understand, but it is still present when I hear, read, see or play games and think about people sitting very close to the monitor with a super low FoV and controller in their hand hyperactively smashing their buttons and never aim up or down only sideways.

Wasn't there a statement that it would have a recommended view depending on where in the game you were or am I imagining that?

If so I'll just use that. Any replays will be in 3rd person though.

To everyone saying "third person, because that's what RE has always been before 7":

Weren't you supposed to boycott the series after they ditched the fixed camera angles, the main staple of the franchise for almost a decade?

Probably in third person because of the mods.

Probably switch between them constantly, similar to Bethesda games. 3rd person for spatial awareness when running, boss fights, long distance combat or combat against multiple enemies. 1st person for up close inspection of rooms, up close combat against a single enemy.

If I can change stuff like FOV possibly first person but if not third so I voted both.

If it's as easy to switch as they make it seem then maybe I'll switch back and forth anyway.

I honestly lol everytime some mentions RE being tipycally a third person saga like that's an argument at all.

I'll play it in 1st person and maybe second run in third person, but 1st person is preferred for the horror factor.

1st Person. Not a fan of the camera and animation work in 3rd person for this game. 1st looks WAY more immersive.

Its clear the game was designed around 1st person, and 3rd was a tack on. Like Call of Duty

First Playthrough = 3rd Person
Second Playthrough = VR
First Person without VR? Never

Did they announce VR support officially?
Nope but it would be weird if it didn't, and if it doesn't then the First Person part of RE with like it's Zombies will rot and die.

Let's be real here, the first person RE games actually kinda suck without VR.
They're not scary and running on the spot because a box on the floor is obstructing your character that you can't see that isn't a problem with 3rd person or VR isn't immersive.
If anything, First Person on a 2D plane with field view of your TV screen kinda breaks it.
It's more immersive to watch a character like a camera following or actually be within the 3D space.

First person for the immersion. Third person is for action games. Being chased by someone and watching your back while running forward ruins the tension.

I will try to play with both hands, lately my left hand drifts southwards without any notice. It's strange, it started after playing stellar blade.

Not officially, but RE 4, 7 and 8 all had VR. This dev team is a mix of 4 and 7/8's. The project lead is 7/8. Don't see it not supporting VR

Which is the only way I'll touch first person, waaaaay down the line.

I'll only play first person if they finally add an FOV slider. RE8 made me nauseous at times due to the low FOV.

also, for some reason, RE8 plays way better in 3rd person than in 1st person. somehow the stick aiming in 3rd person is actually competently done, while it's absolutely awful in 1st person.

For me it's 3rd person, I hate floating camera feel in first person games. I want to see animation of the character I'm controlling.

If the 3rd person mode is good I'll go for that. Otherwise I'll just skip the game entirely like with the other first-person RE games.

I preferred 1st person in the footage I saw, so that's what I'll go with to start. But I'm sure there will be moments I feel like changing it up.

As with Village I'll play both, which POV I use for my first playthrough will come down to what I'm feeling when the time comes.
