Resistance 3 |OT| You ARE the Resistance

The positive comments about the atmosphere makes this a day one for me. Even more than the weapon wheel or any other gameplay elements, the mood was the most important factor in selling the game to me.

I watched the commercial again and i see what you mean. But i think that the "if i can make it through alive" line in the begining is an indication that he might not make it.

wow ... so happy to see all the love R3 is getting from the early previews :))...now I need to get it...I LOVED RFoM (never played R2 cuz of so many negative impressions)

RFoM was one of the best new shooters and looks like R3 will be even much much better

When are the reviews coming in?

And i hope the reviews are good this time.

I was really disappointed by inFAmous2 reviews cause i thought it was a much better game then the reviews suggested it to be.

Had to preorder mine and got Resistance 2 on the way from ebay, since I had to play it in a friend's house some time ago - even knowing it is a step backwards comparing to the first Resistance. Going to play them all again before Resistance 3 arrives.

It's so awesome, right?! Remember that one part with the guy and the gun and the WHOOOAA?

Great artwork, by the way. Totally rocking that reverse cover right now. I'm glad Sony and Imsomniac did you right on that.

That was totally their idea! I originally wanted all the logos and stuff to be on a plastic sleeve (which they did for the special edition).

I'm sure James had a hand in it, we were making a big stink about the logos in the cover art announcement thread.

Amazingly you managed to capture in photo form what this entire game is all about. Playing this game, I'm like "Jesus Christ, how is this guy gonna save the world, let alone live through this?" It's the most impressive cover I've owned this generation, and hopefully publishers take notice.

I don't think it only replaces Molotov's though, I think it's an assortment. You still get the Molotov if you use the Air Fuel Grenade code, I believe.
Ah, OK then. I figured it was just like a skin or something. I'll probably keep the code now.

I just played a lot more of the multiplayer beta, and I'm almost ready to buy it for the multiplayer alone. I've never been really big on Resistance multiplayer (other than the co-op in R2), but I've started to get addicted to this. I had a 9 kill streak going with the marksman and got that armor bonus thing with the grenade launcher. I proceeded to take out their entire team and capture a location, lol.

I'm still gonna wait to play the single player demo before making the decision to buy it right away, but at this point, it would have to really suck to dissuade me from a purchase. And with all the positive GAF impressions, I'll probably end up buying this next week as soon as I can.

You would think that you are invincible. But yesterday I saw what looked like Pikma and pwonager charging towards an armored dude... like they were looking forward to die young.

But no they didn't. They flipped on their assault shields and basically atomized him to death. I couldn't see if they threw any grenade but it was mind blowing to see. I usually turn around and run away. :lol

I think some Gaffers are terminally blood thirsty if you know what I mean.

That is probably the best way of describe GAF parties in online games lol (at least in my experience with Killzone 2&3, Uncharted 2, Bad Company 2 and R3 Beta).

But yes, I think I was in that game, the truth is that people with the 9 kill streak are tough but not invincible, in frontal 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 1 obviously they will destroy you, but if you flank them in short range with Rossmore / Atomizer and you're very aggressive they will fall.

Haha, the first time I saw someone with the armor suit on, I didn't know what it was (thought it was just a different skin). I went up behind them and starting shooting, then they turned around and blasted me to death. I was like "WTF! I shot that guy so much! This game is bullshit." Then I got the suit in the next match and murdered :)

this looks so much more fun than it was to play. it was just too automatic. but it is exciting to watch.

kinda made me wonder about the chimera. how are they so organic and monsterly but also so robotic? they have such advanced machinery. things like the drones and such...how did they make those? they didn't even awaken until 20 years prior!

i hope we get to learn what the Chimera are after in R3.

It's the best, it took 4 players to bring me down after I ran through 5 of their team...especially the last guy who hid the corner *Boom*.

Just put my preorder in at Amazon.com.

This pretty much sold me on the game as well as some other videos and the general setting of the game. I still wish I could play the past games with Move but as long as there is a recap I should be good. FPS on console simply aren't fun for me without the Wii remote (all the FPS on the Wii) and the Move (Killzone 3 and MAG so far).

While we may not know exactly what they are, Rfom explains the technology gap.
The chimera are not making this technology, they are digging it up. R2 goes further to explain that a long time ago, the Earth was fough over by two races...the chimera (original chimera) and some other crazy advanced race. The other race destroyed the chimera, leaving only traces of them on earth and then they vanished (possibly to another dimension). In Project Abraham, we learned that the chimeran virus came from experiments that were conducted in Russia using the DNS of the original chimera. The DNA started to take over the hosts and turned them into the chimera we know of
That leaves some things to be explained but I don't know how many loose ends are gonig to be tied in 3

I've always wondered the same thing about the Chimera. For being this highly advanced military force, they've always seemed a bit too "feral" and unorganized to me. I mean, I know there were the Angels in R:FoM and Daedalus in R2, but their organization as a collective has always really confused me. How do they communicate? Maybe humans just don't understand and to us it all sounds like the same grunting noise? Compare the Chimera in Resistance to the organized and more clearly defined collective Covenant in Halo. Even though the narratives in the Halo games were never executed as well as they could be, at least you knew the Covenant's Hierarchy and what their motivations were and how they operated. To me, the Chimera has been one giant mystery with almost no indication as to what their true motives are or how they operate as a collective.

Maybe I've just forgotten all the details or not read up enough on the lore. I think it's interesting that there is this separation between feral and military Chimera in R3. Here's hoping the Chimera are a little more fleshed out in Resistance 3 in general.

That explains the tech and the origin of the Chimera, but they still seemingly act bizarre to me. Oh well, they look interesting and are pretty fun to shoot none-the-less. :lol

the only worth while one IMO is Amazon, you get an extra weapon, the Air Fuel Grenade

Interesting. I thought the
Tunguska Event "woke the up" from underground. Does make more sense your way.

So the question is: what do they want?

and seriously how is a tower like the holar tower buried

Also, as per RS
The chimera's activities in Rfom and R2 have all been about digging up those conduit towers, trying to create a portal or vortex and would bring the original chimera back. That failed at the end of R2 so I'm not sure if they have a main goal other than 'hey sexy mama, wanna kill all humans?"

Well that may have woken them up. To my knowledge, we don't know
how they were originally found. Also I may be wrong about part of that. We do know the Cloven from Rfom are the result of experimentation, similar to how Hale and the sentinals were made, but it didn't work as well. There may have been some kind of intact speciman that got free

Is it at all clear why
the equipment would summon the original chimera? the equipment is definitely chimera and not "cloven"? cause to me if that stuff LOST....then what did the cloven have?

My only guess is that
The chimera we got have some remnant of the originals and when the original chimera were defeated, a bunch of their stuff was left over. I think that after beating the original chimera, this other race was hurt or tired or just split because they aren't around either. So we have all this buried 'alien' technology that they are trying to put back together to call the original chimera back from where they were sent. Honestly it's almost like Ratchet and Clank canon where the one cragmite guy was trying to bring the other back from another dimension that the lombaxes put them in.

There is also the issue of whether the chimera are a hive mind, which I think they are. That's why the infected (including Hale in the end) all turn to the chimeran side. Since we never really saw the cloven in the end who knows what they had. I think it would have been more of the chimeran weapons like the Bullseye and auger that they were taking from dead chimera.

Yeah, I think we exposed a weakness in the game. We dominated the game until all of them can only spawn in the second floor hole. So all of us basically spawn rape them the moment someone jumps down. That's not good.

I hope Insomnaic randomizes the spawn in this situation so that everyone is distributed all over the map.

No it's a berserk you get after 6 consecutive kills.

D: omg! Not only can I not get 6 kills in a row but the Auger was my favorite weapon. Shame, but I understand how hard it was to balance. Look at how much it changed in the first two games and it still wasn't perfect.

I know what you mean. I've only gotten it once and got killed immediately after getting it out. I can hit 5 kills every now and then but 6 and up is extremely difficult for me. It is insanely powerful though. I guess I'll just have to get my Auger on in SP.
