Yuck. Its 2011. I can't believe there' black bars on the screen - they couldn't sustain the framerate on full res??

Really? This is nothing to do with whether Resistance can sustain the framerate or not.

I explained this in Uncharted 3 thread. Let me explain here as well.

I will present two screenshots from Uncharted 2 at 720p:

When games present them in split-screen, it is practically impossible to do so. To make it playable, they cut off the height to fit it in.

LztMk.jpg

As you can see, a lot of detail is missing e.g. where the enemy is, your entire character, etc etc. Some games shrink the size of the screen to reduce the cutoff, and in return there are black bars on the side.

zlrIu.jpg

First person shooters can get away with cutoff like that cause you don't see the character and the crosshair can be recentered to a lower height. Third person shooters still suffer from it cause you need to find the sweet spot for the character on screen.
(NEW NOTE FOR RESISTANCE 3: As I said, first person shooters can get away with cutoff like that, and thus this is what Resistance 3 is doing).

Here's my favorite way to fit the screens in (which is what Uncharted 3 is doing from the look of the screens):

23lCs.jpg

As you can see, a lot of detail is still in e.g. if there is an enemy on the high platform, more room for HUD clutter, etc etc; as well as the fact that you are not distracted by your character covering most of the screen.

The only thing is that if games started using the black bars and add HUD on it, this way of aspect-ratio is perfect. For example: add the radar, or the ammo count, or the kill notification or the reward notification on these black bars. That way, you will have a HUD-less experience while having a HUD. Win-win situation for split-screen players!

8 hours? I was hoping it'd be a little longer. I'll definitely be starting with hard...really wish this came out before labor day

What difficulty did you select?

Normal, it tells you at the top of the image. I did post earlier that I would recommend Hard if you're good at FPS games. I only chose Normal for review reasons otherwise I would've chosen Hard.

Might want to edit your post now to reflect my edit of the image. ;) Soz, not familiar with the story so wasn't sure if it was considered a spoiler or not.

Tried using the Move + Nav controller. Not liking it.

Two problems.

1: Can't change any of the buttons (Would like to swap out L1 with L2 and vice versa)
2. Adjusting the sensitivity while using iron sights would be nice. The iron sights moves too slow, feels like about 1/4 speed compared to when zoomed out.

Might try some more but at this rate I'd rather stick to the controller.

First of all, I am very sorry for asking if someone who claimed to not be spoiling the game was in fact spoiling the game. But now I am pissed off that I myself was spoiled. Being that I have not played the game, I do not know to what extent or in what context I have been spoiled, but I am very pissed off.

I put some more time into the game today and... I'm really looking forward to what people think of the SP campaign next week.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

What... just happened? You must've edited his post or something, right?

Nah, no more impressions. Finished the game.

Did...did I spoil the game on accident somewhere when I wasn't paying attention? Tell me if I did so I can edit.

It's perfectly playable despite those flaws you mention and much better than DS3.
Try using iron sights less (that is, only when necessary - not at every single encounter). You don't need them as much as you do when aiming with a stick.

And set the deadzone to zero.

Sigh. Believe what you like. I'm playing the game right this moment. You will do the same whenever. Also, no. I moved from one place, drawing all of the fire that was on me, to the cover the AI NPC was using. The Auger rounds went right through the wall and hit him endlessly while I exploited him to snipe/auger the Chimera back. He was a bullet sponge who did not draw fire ONCE since all mobs were on me. I exploited the system as he did not die (nor did he shoot back).

It read like you're escorting a harmless or weak character ? Now I don't know if he or she will die at higher difficulty, but we know and have seen the Chimeras target other AIs. I won't be able to comment until I play the game. ^_^

If he doesn't shoot back, then an enemy AI system may see him as zero threat. He may still shift around during the fight though.

Whatever "job system" they gave the NPCs are not visible through the ten chapters I've played so far.

But, you've been rather passive-aggressive the entire time so I'm not sure why I'm bothering to answer any of this anymore.

Whether the AI changes in a significant way when you up the difficulty level remains to be seen. You guys will figure that out. I'm not interested enough in the title to play through on Hard or Superhuman when Normal should provide good AI on both sides right off the bat.

I don't know about being passive-aggressive, I was just asking questions and trying to understand your short responses earlier. Without a proper context, it can be hard to discern the AI system's capability. There are R3 AI videos out there, but it is possible that the job system did not assign a Chimera to attack you earlier for balancing reason, or otherwise.

I will play the game soon enough to find out ! ^_^
It sounds like they behave like Chimeras and are aggressive enough to force you to take evasive action. Would love to see what they can do in higher difficulty.

Non-Spoiler impressions would be great.

Waiting for the credits to wrap up right now. I work at 10:45 today, so hopefully it'll be soon.

Campaign was pretty good, I'd say. Favorite weapon in the end was the Deadeye. I used it WAY more than I though I would.

For those who posted impressions from earlier, NOTHING STORY-RELATED HERE, FOLKS. DON'T FREAK IF YOU HIGHLIGHT THIS.
*nods*

Okay, credits are done. I'll just type out my stats in order to avoid the unpleasantness from earlier.

Total Kills: 1792
Headshots: 257
Total Gibs: 445
Military Chimera Kills: 880
Feral Chimera Kills: 525
Mech Kills: 183
****************
Total Deaths: 42

Most kills was with the Rossmore, with the Bullseye not far behind.
