Resistance 4 Was Pitched By Insomniac, But Sony Turned It Down

Insomniac Games wanted to develop Resistance 4, but PlayStation turned it down. That's according to soon-to-be president of Insomniac Games Ted Price.
"We did pitch that one and it was a wonderful concept, and, it just, in terms of timing and market opportunity, didn't work out. But it was the result of a lot of Insomniac team members being passionate about extending the story further because I do believe that Resistance has set up a really cool alternate history base where anything can happen with the Chimera and where they go and what their origins are."

I remember having done research on the resistance franchise and had stumbled upon this, its not new. Problem was that by that point, the Halo-killer game that Sony was looking for was no longer needed.

Sony "You make the same spiderman game over and over now. We will allow you to re-skin it as a Wolverine game if you are nice"

The series was pretty bad, I see why Sony trashed it.
True, thank God we got more Horizon remakes and sequels !

They should bring back both Resistance and Killzone.

But sadly they wont, sony will keep circle-jerking horizon despite that series getting spanked with every release

"Resistance 4? You should be grateful that I didn't ask you to make Horizon spinoffs.

Now go back to milk our Marvel titles, chop chop."

Loved this series. The weapons and enemy design were top notch.

Please, give us a remaster of the trilogy. I'd even take a straight port.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly but where else could they go with Resistance after 3?

Killzone on the other hand, I didn't play Shadow Fall, but KZ2 KZ3 kicked major ass and I would love more of these.

This series is looked at fondly in hinsight, but anyone being honest knows it was nowhere near as good as the other FPS giants. It didn't sell well either. No surprise why R4 was not greenlit.

I enjoyed it for what it is, but they weren't great at making legitimate FPS competitors.

Wasn't this pretty much known already? That they thought that it was too much after The Last of Us and Days Gone.

Eh, I hate modern Snoy, but I don't hate this. The first Resistance was really awesome, but the sequels were simply ok. Definitely a product of its time and just Killzone it's not wrong that Snoy continues to push cinematic slop instead of bringing them back.

Normally, I'd ask for a new Ratchet, but considering the downward trend this series has been since ACIT then maybe we're cool here too lol.

Ratchet & Clank 2016 alone sold on par with the entire Resistance trilogy on PS3 (>7M vs. >8M), and that's with R&C costing peanuts to make, while all the Resistance games were much more expensive for being on a previous generation console.

Well, they aren't doing Ratchet games anymore. And Ratchet 2016 was better than the 2020 game.

It's on their leaked development roadmap, don't pretend that you don't remember that.
Not only is Rift Apart a better game, but what does that have to do with anything, lol?

fuuuuuck no. R2 was the worst of the bunch. One of my disappointing day 1 purchases.
You couldn't be more wrong if you was a winner at a being wrong contest consisting of one participant

Infact, you've just bent space and time with utter wrongness.

Resistance was always mid. First game was fine as a launch game when you have literally nothing else to play but as soon as COD4 dropped it was completely forgotten. R2 was one of the most unfinished trainwrecks of a game that i've ever played. R3 was probably the most well crafted of the games with its oppressive atmosphere but it didn't feel like it warranted any more games after that. Not surprised Sony said no.

The third game was so good. Would have loved a new one. Campaign in 2 was ass, but the co-op missions were a ton of fun.
I still think the first one was the best with its weapon wheel. The second was dogshit. I honestly don't remember anything about the third.

The series never interested me. And never looked good.

It's stunningly overrated among some. Many even.

Saying 2 is the worst Resistence is pretty close to saying 2 is the worst Uncharted IMO, ridiculous.

The failure of retired Ryan and demoted Hulst are slowly being expose just like the USAID :ROFLMAO:
Assuming that they had anything to do with that decision (most likely not), how is that a failure?
Edit: forget everything I said, comparing them to USAID is way, WAY more stupid.

Third had a really solid campaign! Especially in solitscreen! Felt very much like a hybrid of 1 and 2 and, if I'm remembering right, brought back the wheel.
