Right now, the PS5 Pro is the best selling console on Amazon

A $800 Xbox console would be hit with the same exact response.

No, Amazon wasn't selling consoles and we didn't have any similar best seller lists widely available. Just regionals like NPD and financial disclosures. That's partially why I say we don't have any such historical data to compare to.

If Amazon was operating in the same way then as they are now, the PS3 would have been at the top of the list. It was a best selling console for it's opening, that's the point. A new console from "the big three" sells out of the gate, period. Even Sega always managed that much. That isn't surprising, notable, or news worthy. A big three console released that didn't do well would be all three of those things at once.

How well it sells post launch depends on the value of the unit itself combined with the power of the brand.

It's going by the information that we have available. PS5 is outselling Xbox 4 to 1. Do you honestly believe that Xbox Series Pro at a MSRP of $700-800 would actually sell?

It would likely flop long term. But, there are still die hard Xbox fans out there that would upgrade from their XSX. Enough to ensure good sales for a short period of time, sell through of the first couple million units in the states would push them up the charts for a minute. They'd probably be on deep discount by Christmas, LOL. The announcement of the PS ports all but killed them for sure, as expected.

If you say so. I'm not going to speculate on what "would have been". Moving on...

So when do you think we will see PS5 Pro sales begin to drop? Think it will be out of the top 10 by end of the week?

Even if it ends up being 15 or 20% of the overall base of PS5s, it will probably amount to a higher percentage than that over this first holiday assuming that the units are available (which will probably keep it charting nicely). The first indications of how it will do long term will come in Jan, IMO.

Dragon Ball is #70 on the Amazon sales list and they just announced 3 million sold so fortunately we can't lean into 1 retailer to tell a full story or rather unfortunately for the haters...

That's fair. Piers Harding-Rolls estimated 1.3 million PS5 Pros sold in the launch window. .4 million less than PS4 Pro. Sounds about right to me.

Did everyone forget that Xbox One X was $100 more than PS4 Pro?

I don't remember people talking about the price over & over again.

It launched at the same price as OG X1 and was such a significant upgrade from the base X1 GPU (roughly 4x vs. the doubling for the Pro) that it didn't get questioned as much. $500 was on the high side for a console, but also somewhat settled.

Low in comparison to base PS5, yeah. A console sold for profit is going to have different expectations to one sold at a loss. This is more in the realm of Asus or Lenovo selling handhelds for a profit than the traditional console model.
This is Pro console model.
Why would Sony sell Pro for loss? It's not a model to expand market, like 99% of Pro model owners will migrate from base model. It's explicitly a model for convinience, a better choice for the same, already locked-in, customers. And convinience sold at profit, like extra gamepads and portal.

Yeah....this is old school supply/demand. Sony thinks it has a price point where they can steadily produce and sell.

Could be why they held off launching sooner as the silicone has been done for awhile and the project was put on hold for several months, amassing something needed for stock

This is 100% speculation on my part, well the amassing parts is

More than likely true with just about any product launch like this. Gotta secure the components at the right price. $700 could easily be $1000 otherwise.

There is obviously less demand for the mid-gen refresh in comparison to new generation launch. If Sony did a good job estimating demand there is no problem with that. People are tired of the scalping and availability problems that have plagued gaming.

With that said, there is no need to insult the intelligence and even the direct experience of your audience, like DF is trying to do with that spin. As if, new consoles being hard to get in the first holiday is a pandemic thing, LOL.

That successfully launch is getting me Rare games into my PlayStation, and “Halo Studios” has suspiciously chosen a multi-platform engine. Similar level of success would probably let me living under a bridge.

:messenger_tears_of_joy: Successful in a by the numbers kind of way, the X1 launched stronger than 360 even being under powered and over priced. That probably gave them the confidence to go back to $500 when they had the power advantage. Plus, the system had clear advantages over its $400 competition, making it feel normal that it be more expensive.

What are you basing Xbox One X sales on? Microsoft stop revealing sales numbers long before that.

I'm unaware of this mysterious group I'm a part of. That's my view of console launches of Nintendo and Sony for the last 30 years, and for Xbox from 2001 until they started talking up first party ports to rival machines. It is what it is, reality is hard to shake. LOL

And, like I said above, even with all the self-nemetic decisions from Xbox lately, I still think they'd have a strong launch week or two.

Okay so we have you down for a strong "week or two" got it!

The same way an OLED Swith mainly sold to current Switch owners.

I may pick one up in the [unlikely] event there is a sale for Black Friday or if Sony prepares more Anniversary Editions of the console and they are readily available. However, as it stands, I am more likely to just invest that money or take a vacation in late November.

Demands seems soft, but we have no idea what sold via Direct and it's such an expensive item that many people who might end up buying it might not want to pre-order it and lock that money up before they have to.

Many people buying it will probably get paid at the end of the month to try to put that money towards a launch unit.

Will be very difficult to ascertain demand without getting some numbers from Sony and charts. Likely we won't know how well this is doing until some time in December. December 18th is a key date for US numbers, we should hopefully get European numbers a bit before, but they're likely to be softer than US numbers.

China is a blackhole. We just have no idea how these units are moving in China at all, but we do know that Japanese stock is pretty much non-existent.

It's crazy how the PS5 Pro is sold out entirely in Japan (not a single official retailer has a single PS5 Pro in stock in japan, Joshinand Yodobashi might but they require an account to even try adding to cart) and Australia but seemingly has limitless inventory in the west. I think Sony may have royally screwed up inventory this year, not having stock available in China for Wukong's release and overcorrecting to try and capitalize on it. They really need to make sure they have stock available for Monster Hunter Wilds in Japan.

Thr xbox one x smoked the ps4 pro in hardware and features.

It's not easy to understand why people see the worth in other products.

Ps4 pro was pretty much the same with 1gb of slow extra memory and a double butterfly gpu.

One X had 12gb of super fast memory up from 8. Had a much larger gpu than the pro and also played 4k blu rays.

The 100 dollars was completely justified.

It is down to 47th place in the UK, it is being outsold by PS5 Digital, and PS5 Slim.

It would be DOA because no one even wants a $250 Xbox.
Xbox series s is at 51st position on the same list in the UK.

And it seems that the $200 is justified for PS5 Pro

Most of us paid $499 for the PS5 then bought 1TB , 2TB or even 4TB SSDs

That's completely fine for you to think its justified. It's also fine for others to think it isn't

Im sure with those feature updates on the one x, some people would have thought its not worth the upgrade over the PS4 pro?

$499 + 1TB = $599. With a disc drive

The real change is that Sony’s moved to looking for meaningful hardware margins on the Pro, not just break even.

I suspect much of this is tied to the decline of Xbox as a hardware competitor. With Sony’s profit margin declining in recent years, they have the leeway now to move from the aggressive pricing scheme they started with the PS4.
