Ready for the movie, Starbros
I would say so, yes. And of course, the movies being action movies with a simple good-evil dichotomy and a lot of passages that focus entirely on style rather than story telling plays an important role in that. They use relatable and memorable, yet chliché character stereotypes and are effective in making them relatable to many viewers, but there is no depth to them and no development (outside of the development that is already ingrained into the character stereotype used, so yes, Luke grows more consistently competent, but that is at the core of the "secret talent naive youth character" stereotype). The characters are stereotypical and flat, yet appealing to many. Maybe Star Wars 9 just fails to get the appealing aspect right? I can see that, but complaining about them not being deep enough does not make any sense if you consider it a critique in context of the series.
Lucas fleeced us with the horrible prequels, he was ruining star wars so nah, I'll pass.Wooow.
I encourage everyone to give that a watch. It’s only three minutes, but you can see how badly George got fleeced with lies and false promises.
I don't want to defend the prequels entirely, hell, I've always hated Episode 2 especially. However when I think back to 1999, when Episode 1 came out..I was 15 at the time, and I don't remember actively hating Star Wars after the movie. (Edit: I just wanted to add, that let's put that info next to the fact that my now 15 year old nephew actually really started to hate Star Wars after The Last Jedi, and we're talking about a kid who grew up with it since he was born pretty much, and was a huge fan.) I feel like I knew TPM was flawed, but felt there was room for improvement after it. If anything though, it rejuvenated any interest I had in Star Wars at the time. There were good video games coming out, and I was having fun playing those at the time.Lucas fleeced us with the horrible prequels, he was ruining star wars so nah, I'll pass.
Pretty hilarious to see the old coon worked up about it when he's the one who introduced boring politics and tried to cash in on as many characters he could fit into that shitfest that was the prequels just to sell toys
stop giving that lunatic the attention he craves
The thing about the PQ is that Lucas really tried and he just fell short. He knew where he wanted to start, with the origin of Anakin Skywalker. And he knew where it would finish, with Anakin becoming Darth Vader. It was all the stuff in the middle that he seemed to be having issues with. It turns out that realistically depicting someone's ideals crumbling and their fall into darkness is not something that is easily done in film. You need Shakespeare-level storytelling there and Lucas is a little short of that.I don't want to defend the prequels entirely, hell, I've always hated Episode 2 especially. AotC did really ruin a lot of that because of how horrible the script was, but at that point in time, it was still an anomaly for me, and it didn't actively ruin the rest of the series. As bad as Episode 2 was, you could still enjoy the other movies, because it didn't ruin the lore. It didn't ruin parts of the original trilogy, it just had really bad writing. Then Episode 3 came out, and while far from perfect, it was fun. I still actively enjoy the Yoda/Palpatine fight in that movie, and the scenes between Anakin and Palpatine are engaging. Ian McDiarmid was a joy to watch in that movie.
As bad as the prequels were in some respects, what Disney has done is like...a black hole of shittiness. It not only sucks on it's own, but pulls the original movies into it's shittiness because of how badly they respect the continuity. These sequels suck so much they don't even respect their own fucking continuity.
Even then, it all comes back to those in charge of Disney's version of Star Wars having an agenda. Making money was certainly part of what made the higher ups buy Star Wars, and wanna start shitting it out as fast as possible. Then you had people like Kathleen Kennedy though who were put in charge of where the series would go creatively, and you'd think that if the sole goal was to make money, they'd take George Lucas's ideas, and at least work with them as a baseline. But no, we had people like her who had an agenda, and said "we're gonna make sure everyone is represented, and we're not gonna offend anyone, except our target audience." We had to get this shitty retrend in TFA from JJ Abrams, the man who thinks he's this artistic visionary, and maybe from a visual standpoint he's adequate at copying what Speilberg did, but from a writing standpoint, he couldn't finish a sandwich. He comes up with cliffhangers, with no intention or idea on how to resolve them. That is not what Star Wars was ever fucking about, it's not a god damn mystery, and it didn't need to be. Then Rian Johnson, who is a fucking hack of a writer and director, with some of the most basic level talent in the industry, how the hell was a man like that given sole control on a fucking billion dollar franchise is beyond me. He only proves his lack of talent with every fucking thing he did with TLJ.The thing about the PQ is that Lucas really tried and he just fell short. You need Shakespeare-level storytelling there and Lucas is a little short of that.
Now contrast that with the Disney Trilogy which literally started with "How can we make money off this property we just spent $4 billion to acquire?" and that was the limit of thinking they seemed to have put into it. Ultimately, as flawed as it was, Lucas had a vision and he was trying to make something for the sake of telling a story. His reach exceeded his grasp there, especially since the two primary actors for the PQ story had the charisma of cardboard, but the intent was at least noble.
Disney's vision is making money and everything they make is for the sake of making money. Unfortunately applying the same "Assembly Line of Product Sold for Money" mentality to Star Wars that they use for Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't really effective when you don't have a century's worth of comic material to simply crib and shit onto the big screen with a lot of CG effects. You might say, "But what about the 3 decades of Expanded Universe material?" but oh wait they threw all that into the garbage. Imagine if the Disney Trilogy was just an adaptation of Timothy Zahn's original Thrawn trilogy, instead of the shit that we got instead for instance.
Well your age had a lot to do with it. A lot of younger people than me love the prequels juste like my kids love ep. 7 and 8 and even though I haven't enjoyed them a lot, they at least we're entertaining popcorn movies unlike the prequels.I don't want to defend the prequels entirely, hell, I've always hated Episode 2 especially. Ok she definitely had an agenda sure. The agenda was to make Star Wars inclusive but that doesn’t necessarily mean the movies would be like they are. If you made Luke skywalker a girl and lea a boy the OT would still be the OT more or less and still be great.![]()
I don't know, but this fucking always tells me that she basically had an agenda. She didn't care about what George had done with the series, nor did she have any intention of respecting it.
I'm not gonna say that Star Wars was for men, or that it had to be for men, and to keep my women out of it, but the way they went about it was completely uncalled for and fucked up.
You have a brand that was basically marketed to young boys for decades, and when boys ended up liking Star Wars a lot, why the hell tell them that they are not wanted anymore? It's like if Mattel took Barbie and decided to say we're changing our focus to mostly Ken dolls. It's just weird that what was basically a toy brand pushed towards boys, once bought by Disney started telling boys that they were in the wrong for keeping it away from girls or something. I dunno, it's just a completely fucking stupid situation which wasn't created by the fans at all, if anything, it was the franchise's own marketing that made it seem male dominated.
I would actually agree with that, it's hard to argue about her shoving Rey into Star Wars as a Mary Sue, and not sound sexist. I want women in my fiction, I PREFER women characters in fiction quite often. Hell, I can't tell how many times I wish some of the video games I play had a cool female character to play as instead of some of the boring men that have been in some. Especially open world games.Ok she definitely had an agenda sure. The agenda was to make Star Wars inclusive but that doesn’t necessarily mean the movies would be like they are. the movies aren’t bad bc Rey is a chick they are bad bc the writing is disjointed and the movies are on a unbelievably tiny scale. Characters besides Kylo Ren are boring and interchangeable. I just doing believe shoving an agenda into a movie necessarily makes it bad. Especially if that agenda is basically “get more chicks in there”
I love it when grown ups think there is an hidden agenda in star wars movies, that star wars characters in the new trilogy are botched, that characters in the OT were so deep and meaningful.I would actually agree with that, it's hard to argue about her shoving Rey into Star Wars as a Mary Sue, and not sound sexist. The problem with Star Wars now, with Rey, and what Kathleen Kennedy has done to the series is they're making it all about the genitals, and have none of the damn talent to give them any good character. The Force isn't female, it's everyone! What the hell is this message that she wears on that shit even say to the boys of today who do want to like Star Wars. It's like saying they're not wanted, and you don't do that. Even when marketing appealed to young boys, they didn't go out of their way to tell girls to fuck off, but that's the message Kathleen Kennedy wants to send to males.
Everyone is botched in this new trilogy, and just because kids are playing with the toys doesn't mean they have any reliability to the characters. I had plenty of shit tier characters as toys when I was a kid, but I couldn't tell you their names now.
It actually makes a lot of sense. Lucas gets a cut of profits in merchandise sales whenever Disney uses a character that was created in the original universe. Disney got rid of the EU because they wanted to make new characters, all of their own that Lucas wouldn't get a cut of.Yesh that Lucas interview is insane. Right away he says “we have films, we have comics, we have a treasure trove of stories” completely flies in the face of her bold faced lie that they had no source material to work from
Interestingly Chris Terrio was asked if he had read the Lucas drafts and there was a long pause and he diverted to talking about reading rough drafts of the OT he found on the internet. I wonder what the official policy on the Lucas sequel outlines was.
*scans all my posts* Nope, I never used the words deep or meaningful in any of my posts. Gotta put words in my mouth to make your attempt an insult. Will I say they're good movies? Yes. Deep and meaningful? No. I'd reserve that kind of talk for something like films by Kubrick, or The Fountain.I love it when grown ups think there is an hidden agenda in star wars movies, that star wars characters in the new trilogy are botched, that characters in the OT were so deep and meaningful.
Yep, the problem isn't them, it's Disney.
I was also talking about grown ups waking up in the night to hate the new trilogy but hey, if you feel yourself concerned and the hat fits, good for you*scans all my posts* Nope, I never used the words deep or meaningful in any of my posts. Ah so your trolling is about is about defending "poor" Kathleen.I was also talking about grown ups waking up in the night to hate the new trilogy but hey, if you feel yourself concerned and the hat fits, good for you
Careful there, Kathleen might be coming after your nuts, she just hates males so badly.
Yeah, I ended up putting them on ignore when he was an obvious troll.Ah so your trolling is about is about defending "poor" Kathleen.
Don't worry, she is doing just fine
Yeah obviously I am trying to defend a woman who makes millions and works for Disney. Makes total sense.Ah so your trolling is about is about defending "poor" Kathleen.

this theme is repeated with DJ and the Rose Casino sidequest, the idea that both sides are kinda the same, cos rich people sell them weapons, is harmful moral relativism that critically damages the very black & white fable-like foundations of Star Wars
Idk Poe was pretty badass. it seemed even when I watched it first was that the men were trying to win the war and the women were being overly sentimental and waiting to be saved. Even at the end the women are sending signals for others to come help while the men are sacrificing it all just for the group to survive(besides Rey who is just begging Luke).Idk mate. TLJ was painfully over board with hot blooded male goofs and calm females saving their asses.
Besides TLJ being a disjointed mid-triology part..
So very true.Phantom Menace flashbacks...
Come on nerds I need your help.
There is Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Gate, and one other Star something, I know one of you pointdexters know what the fourth one is, it's driving me crazy.
When did they start referring to this trilogy as “the conclusion to the Skywalker Saga?” I feel like I didn’t hear that phrase until after TLJ was out and people started bashing it, like it was a marketing buzzphraze they drummed up to try and legitimize their movie.
Whenever it was, I don’t like it. That story wasn’t y’all’s to finish. It was done. Happily ever after for Luke and the gang. You bought the IP and had a literal galaxy’s worth of lore to mine from for new movies, and what did you do? Said “you know what, fuck all of this EU stuff, none of it is real” and remade the original trilogy but worse.
Hey kids remember dashing rogue Han Solo? Now he’s a deadbeat dad and a failure as a husband! Remember the tough and beautiful Princess Leia? Now she’s General Leia because fuck you for ever thinking a princess was cool you misogynists! Also please try to forget Leia existed before TFA when we tell you how great it is for these new Star Wars movies to have a female heroine for girls to look up to.
Remember Luke? Remember the most optimistic gee-whiz space farmboy who ever lived? The one who made a one-in-a-million shot to destroy the Death Star and deal a critical blow to the Empire? The one who abandoned his training and rushed into a fight he knew he probably wouldn’t win because his friends were in danger? The one who threw down his lightsaber and refused to strike down a genocidal maniac (and the most iconic villain in movie history) because deep down he could still sense the good in the man who was once his father?
Yeah he had a bad dream about his own nephew and came a hair’s breadth away from murdering him in his fuckin’ sleep lol. THEN he abandons his friends and his family to live alone on island world as a grumpy asshole for the rest of his life, sucking green milk outta some fat thing’s boobs.
The thrilling conclusion to the Skywalker Saga (property of Disney Corp)! Your childhood heroes are dead and also assholes. And since the Emperor was apparently still alive and pulling strings behind the scenes for decades, they never actually accomplished anything after all! Good thing Rey is here to get shit done for real with her gooollllllden lightsaber while friend and foe alike fall all over themselves to suck her dick.
But don’t listen to me I’m just a cishet manbaby fuckhead. Maybe a virgin too?

It's the Star Wars we should have been getting since 1983.It's the Star Wars we should have been getting since 2015.
Today in alternative facts: Yoshi said it is the Star Wars we should have been getting since 2015.It's the Star Wars we should have been getting since 1983.
Everything Star Wars after 1983 has been shit, movie wise.Today in alternative facts: Yoshi said it is the Star Wars we should have been getting since 2015.
That's what I think as well.I just felt that JJ had no good options left after the mess that was TLJ. He tried to save something that cant be saved. Even Nolan or Scorcese couldnt have recued this franchise.
Lowest rated Disney Star Wars release by a significant margin.

I've come to distrust Rotten Tomatoes, and movie critic reviews in general, after all the praise The Last Jedi got.58% on Rotten Tomatoes with 37 reviews. Mostly smaller fansites giving it positives.
"The die-hard fans, who have the best shot of actually enjoying The Rise of Skywalker, are likely to have some serious complaints, and it's not inconceivable that it may be received as warmly as the finale of Game of Thrones." -grouchoreviews ()
"It's a somewhat soulless delivery system of catharsis, but Disney and Abrams are banking on the delivery itself to be enough." -thewrap
"Rise of the Skywalker isn't an ending, a sequel, a reboot, or a remix. It's a zombie." -Entertainment Weekly
"The cast does a very good job, but this trilogy is stuck in a nose dive it can't escape. The movie tries to use fan service to save the day, but it just comes off as desperate..." -Grace Randolph
"A densely packed highlight reel fails to tell a story that's narratively interesting, thematically cohesive, or that builds any impactful stakes...Designed to tantalize and delight in the hope those things cover up its many shortcomings." -io9
"There doesn't seem to be any real organic idea animating Rise of Skywalker; instead it feels cobbled together from notes stuffed in the suggestion boxes of Reddit and Twitter." -Vanity Fair
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I feel like it's gotta be more is how do you make a sequel to that was written to be a dead end in nearly every aspect. Fuck TLJ, and fuck Rian Johnson. This movie never had a chance to be good. Even if you like TLJ, you can't follow it up with anything interesting, because there's nothing left to care about. Rey is already perfect, there's no growth for her.
Just as I suspected. Seems like they tried to do way too much in one movie, and with the pressure of also having to the the series together it ended up a disjointed mess.58% on Rotten Tomatoes with 37 reviews. Mostly smaller fansites giving it positives.

ESB sets up that Luke can sense his friends in peril across the galaxy, so how do you explain him not going to their aide?
