Was getting caught part of your plan?
Haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm listening to the "Jyn's Theme and Hope Suite" from the soundtrack.

Damn, Giacchino brought his Medal of Honor game back.

Seeing in T-minus: 5 hours! Got my 70mm Imax tickets that'll also have the first seven minutes of Nolan's Dunkirk attached. Wasn't too thrilled by the trailer but hopefully this opening scene will make-up for that. This will also be the first time I'll be experiencing true Imax as it's only been liemax up to this point.

I went from not very excited to super-pumped within the past week or so of hearing that no matter the complaints, everyone agrees that Rogue One succeeds at being a great action movie with a set of characters we care about. That's all I need. Episode 7 was boring as shit and I want a Star Wars story that actually excites me, not just strike poses trying to look cool.

Of course this is coming from someone who fucking LOVES Godzilla 2014, even with the characters, or lack thereof, so I have high hopes.

I'll have to check this out. I'll admit that I don't have the huge boner for Giacchino's work like a lot of people and I was really pissed when he replaced Alexandre Desplat last minute but I've heard nothing but good things about his Rogue One score.

Quite like to listen to the soundtrack, are the names spoilery?

It's out if you know where to look.

Oh, most definitely. "Rogue One" (the track title, obviously) is another good source of that particular brand of Giacchino, under-laid with tasteful little statements of the Force motif.

"Rebellions Are Built on Hope" keeps doing the thing, though, where it begins to allude to the title crawl theme before seguing into a different motif (it does the same in the suite you mentioned), which is slightly annoying, especially when such a theme would probably work well there. You hear a bit of it in
"Scrambling the Rebel Fleet"
(slightly spoilery title) though, which was nice.

Overall, I really dig both Jyn and Krennic's themes and the way they're used in the score.

Listening to the soundtrack. It's okay so far, very Giacchino but it's pretty clear that he was rushed for time to finish it. Jyn's theme is basically a reworking of his Yorktown theme from Star Trek: Beyond, to the point where it's distracting if you know that score well.

Thinking of seeing the movie tonight. Haven't decided yet.

Watched it this morning and damn I really loved it. Last 30 minutes especially were dope. Not really a big Star Wars guy but I was really happy with it.

Just got back from a Manchester, England showing.

A bit of background on me first.

Empire Strikes Back is my favourite movie of all time and the OT is my favourite set of movies of all time.

The prequels were a huge disappointment to me (part of me really resents them), although I can watch them as fun pop corn movies just because they're Star Wars.

I liked The Force Awakens but thought it was a tad overrated. Much better than the prequels but not quite at the level of the OT. The Luke/Emperor/Vader scenes and the Battle of Endor give the edge to ROTJ over TFA for me.

I'd rank the released films as follows

ESB > ANH >> ROTJ > TFA >> ROTS > TPM > AOTC

....

I'm not ready to cough up my full thoughts yet but I thought Rogue One was the best Star Wars movie since 1980. This is by far the most emotional Star Wars movie, especially if you're a huge fan of A New Hope or know how film really well.

The only 'negative' for me was that it made me imagine how good the prequels could have been if they were made like this was.

It was excellent.

Back from watching it. The best Star Wars movie to date. This was amazing. Some of the cgi was a bit rough but there was so much greatness. While I do like the original trilogy I watch them less for entertainment than education. They don't entertain me, is what I'm trying to say. VII was the first Star Wars movie to entertain me. If this is where these movies are heading count me in: Star Wars will be great under Disney.

It shares a few notes for sure, but if anything it's more similar tonally to Rey's theme.

Plus it has this weirdly Godfather-esque turn a ways in that I really dig.

Yeah, I can see that, although it doesn't quite have Williams' gift for melody and orchestration. I'm halfway through the album now and it's starting to pick up. Spoiling track titles just in case.
Confrontation on Eadu
has some real highlights in it, especially Jyn's theme at the end.

Saw it today, thought it was ok. I give TFA some shit but I actually like that one more.

I definately expect this one to be quite divisive after the honeymoon period is over. There is a bunch of cool stuff they do unique in the SW movieverse but I just wasn't feeling the ''vibes''.

One lil thing that might be just me since there are other movies/shows I have this problem with but I have REAL hard time remembering the names of the new characters. 12 hours after I saw it and I couldn't tell you the names of the bad guy, the blind guy and his sidekick, the pilot, the rebel guy ect. ect. The only fuckin names that stuck with me were Saw and K2 for some reason. They need to start hammering the names to us stupid people with memory problems I tell ya! I should follow the pre-release info more I suppose.

Oh, and the bad guy is pretty lame. The only neat thing about him is the design. You don't really hate, like or feel sorry for him, he's just kinda there.

The best thing about it was the return of space battles. I just wish they gave them time to breathe more to show the scope rather than constantly cut to other stuff.

Do you think that, after 1 viewing of Star Wars, you'd have remembered "Ben / Obi Wan Kenobi" "Han Solo" "Chewbacca" "C3PO" "R2D2" "Princess Leia Organa" "Alderaan" "Millenium Falcon" "Tatooine" "Darth Vader" "Governor Tarkin" "Biggs" "Wedge" "Uncle Owen" "Aunt Beru" "Luke Skywalker" "Mos Eisley"

... every movie has these kinds of outlandish names. ;)

damn, can't find the score anywhere. Have it coming in the mail tomorrow but really wanted to hear some of it before going to the theater.

Is there a Sam Jackson stinger after the credits?

"You think you're the only rebel in the galaxy? Princess Leia, you've become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."
"Who the hell are you?"
"Mace Windu, Jedi Master."
"Ah."
"I'm here to talk to you about the Bad Mother Fucker Initiative."

I didn't have the problem with TFA. I think one problem for me is that some names are mentioned so few times in scenes where I'm not fully engaged that they just don't stick with me. I think the blind guy and his sidekicks name got mentioned 2 times total or something. Compare that to Chewbacca where it's constant Chewie this Chewie that or Luke this Luke that.

Vader has way less screen time and I'm pretty sure he get's his name dropped more than them.

I say this with the utmost respect:

I wonder if some of you even like the SW universe. Seems like you were forced to watch a movie with a loved one in which you had no interest in seeing.

I for one am just happy we are getting competent new movies. TFA = "they didn't take any chances, run of the mill didn't need to be a sequel"

One takes chances: "irrelevant movie that didn't need,to be made, bored to tears"

Why do you put yourself through this if its so bad. I grew up on OG trilogy, and had to suffer the PT. These last two movies have been a G*d D@mn revelation compared to TPM or ATOTC.

It's simple. The Star Wars community is an enthusiast one. No different than comic book movie fans, or video games fans that feel everything must be a certain way for it to be good. Now this isn't everyone of course, but just some vocal users.

Of course people on forums will analyze everything. But general audiences I feel will go into this and come out having a good time. I feel lots of people will see this more than once and it has potential to do over a billion.

I do agree with you. I'm glad we're getting good competent SW films. Seems like this is 2 for 2 for Lucasfilm and I can't wait for Episode 8.

Put me in the "holy shit we're getting more good SW films" camp. What do you have to lose after the EP1-3? The PT was category 5 Hurricane Lucas and the last two films have been the clean up/rebuilding crew.

But I'm a glass half full kinda guy.

Anyone who isn't thrilled by these two last movies are off their meds.

Just finished watching The Force Awakens, now I'm ready to watch Rogue One later tonight, so goddamn pumped for it.

I've now seen it 5 times and it's just as good as the first time.

Here's hoping Rogue One delivers and from what I've heard, it most definitely does.

Loved the visuals. Some genuinely funny parts.
Good casting. Music was fine, it had no memorable motifs though. Some really awesome scenes. The third act is by far the best. Loved the ending.

One of the best SW films for sure.
