They can print as much rubles as they want to pay their soldiers and workers important is that they can't use the euros to buy stuff from outside of their country they need with it and therefore are the sanctions. Embargoes and sanctions should hurt the enemy more then yourself and I strongly believe an energy embargo just fucks the EU more then it would Russia right now. I also never voted for Merkel or that smurf Olaf right now. But my point is over reacting to sticking it to the Russians while not thinking in the long run how to keep the lights on is stupid. And Russia will sell its resources anyway to someone. Their is no way they won't because without them on the market the whole world has a problem so the energy routes will just shift we pay more they will get less but it takes time.
I read in our press a few years ago that you decommissioned your nuclear plants following the Japan meltdown. Is there any talk of re-starting them or other plans to free yourselves from Russian fuels?

Stop talking about the EU as it is just Germany. Not all of the EU would be fucked. It's Germany cause Germany acted like children trying to play a game only known to themselves. Totally fucked themselves, and the west as a result.

Well, ackshully, there are a lot of other countries even more reliant on rusgas than Germany, but they're keeping a low profile. The Austrians, for instance. Their government has often openly fanboyed for Putler (and they are big in the fossil fuel mafia; yes, mafia, it's a racket like a lot of other things), but they are trying to keep it mostly quiet, unlike that giga-cunt Orban.

So, big news today.

Slowly but surely, the Ukrainians have cleaned the Mikolay Oblast. Only 1 town remains, other than that, the orcs have all been pushed into the kherson oblast (those who survived anyways). Additionally, ukrainian troops have moved into the Kherson oblast and are 15 clicks from Kherson itself.

This is important for the following reasons:

a) Kherson itself and a a chunk of the Kherson Oblast are the last orc-occupied land east of the Dnieper (as you might know, the Dnieper river cuts Ukraine in half).
b) Close by to Kherson is the source of the canal that feeds water to Crimea, who controls Kherson controls Crimea access to drinkable water
c) Because of the Dnieper, Kherson and Melitopol are the gateways to Crimea. Controlling both means no reinforcements coming from Crimea and cuts the land bridge between Crimea and Donbass Russia is desperate to establish, essentially making Mariupol less strategically significant.
d) Kherson and Melitopol are the natural launching points for an assault on the Crimean Peninsula.

Legend:

Red Circle: last Orc outpost in Mykolaiv Oblast
Orange: aprox borders of Kherson Oblast
Black Pentagons: Kherson and Melitopol
Green Arrow: points to probable position as of today of the Ukrainian counter offensive

As for the sensitive nature of the technology, the Leopard and Abrams are over 40 years old and the challenger is ~30, If the Russians were technologically capable of producing a copy they would have by now.

The US has Abrams coming out of our ears because the politicians refuse to allow production to stop at the tank factory even when the Army says they don't want or need any more tanks, which could be a good problem to have at a time like this if we can figure out the logistical issues.
Yes, I said they are quite old designs. But they have still been updated in parts. And the reactive armour on Challengers is still classified.

Face it, the Ukrainains are not going to be getting Challengers at least, and likely no Leopards or Abrams either until some sort of conclusion is brought to this war.

Training crews and maintenance teams to operate NATO tanks (not former Soviet ones) will take a long time and will draw these desperately needed soldiers away from the front. They are also quite different, there are for instance no loaders in the 3-man crews of Ukrainian tanks, they all have an automatic loaders while NATO tanks have 4 crew with a loader. Loading a tank gun may seem easy but doing that efficiently in a cramped space full of moving parts that will rip an arm off in a second is not simple.

Poland has a large fleet of T72s, and I am sure they would consider trading them for a deal to modernize their own tank fleet, or even slim down and get help to modernize their military in other ways.

I think it goes without saying anyone with half a wit knows that you can't simply learn to drive and operate a modern battle tank in a theatre of war in a few months, it ain't like learning to drive a car, best to supply them with kit they do know and a few land launched anti ship missiles so they can take out that black sea fleet, the rest of the sane world needs to up the anti in supplying offensive weapons now, simply move all Soviet era armaments from NATO countries into Ukraine and resupply those with modern weapons, threats from Russia at this point amount to sweet fuck all, they are a paper tiger to a modern NATO Army

Yeah. Hopefully Ukraine can use up all the Soviet stuff (hopefully with minimal losses) and smaller Nato members can be modernised.

Then, when hopefully Ukraine drive the Russians out, their military's big ticket items can be modernised too (the smaller items already are being sent to them).

One of the Russian Orthodox oligarchs who was going off specifically about satanists and pagans on Russian TV last weekend is now facing US charges for sanctions violations.
He is accused of conspiring with ex-Fox News director Jack Hanick to illegally transfer a $10 million US investment from a Texas-based bank to an associate in Greece. Hanick, who previously worked at Fox News for 15 years and allegedly helped launch the Tsargrad media group, was also charged with sanctions evasion last month.

"Kremlin-linked Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev played a leading role in supporting Russia's 2014 invasion of eastern Ukraine, continues to run a pro-Putin propaganda network, and recently described Russia's 2022 military invasion of Ukraine as a 'holy war,'" Michael J. Driscoll, the assistant director of the FBI's New York field office, said in a DOJ press release.

The oligarch, who remains at large and is believed to be in Russia, said on state TV that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a "holy war" against "satanists" and "pagans," the BBC's Francis Scarr tweeted last week. The US does not have an extradition treaty with Russia.

Hanick, however, currently faces extradition from the United Kingdom to the United States, where he would be tried in New York City, according to the DOJ. Contact information for Hanick's attorney could not immediately be found.

Fucking animals

There’s a link to a video on Telegram that’s doing the rounds on Twitter/Reddit apparently, of a horrific crime perpetrated by a Russian soldier. I didn’t see it, but I was unlucky enough to read the goddamn description. Some of the pieces of shit are fucking worse than animals … so utterly evil. Vile pieces of shit.

There’s also this:

My newborn is sleeping beside me without a care in the world, and this shit hits me hard. I’m really sorry for all the parents out there in Ukraine, and other places in the world being terrorised by these fuckwits like Putin and his band of murderers.

Yeah that was the video I was referring to … I didn’t even want to link it or describe it. It was just too disgusting to even talk about. That poor baby.

I don't even understand the physics behind this.... what kind of a pinprick does that Orc have to be? And the thought of how big an average sized dick is in relation to the body of a one year old baby.... man, I hope they catch this son of a whore and hang him by his intestines!

Thats probably a calculated move to slow down their population decline. Russia is sending thousands of healthy young mean to their deaths despite their population growth issues, so the way to make up for that is to essentially kidnap young Ukrainians. And according to their genocidal rhetoric Ukraine is just an idea that doesn't really exist, so the kids are probably going to be manipulated and brought up to think that they've always been Russian.

Sickening all around

This can probably kill babies, this is no different than murder.

All Russians should be killed on the spot in Ukraine.

Sounds exactly like what the SNP are doing to young kids in Scotland, as regards the idea of being Scottish not British and in the UK. Neither of which exist in Scottish Nationalist minds.

Brainwash them from the earliest possible age to your nationalist agenda, is text book tactic, so its no surprise the Russians are pulling this shit.

Nationalism is the same ugly shit, the world over, whether bombs and bullets are going off or not.

I'm trying to wrap my head around the Russian logic concerning attacking civilians.

Is it to be taken at face value, that they're just evil, murderous cunts bent on genocidal eradication? Are they not the least bit concerned about how they will be viewed by the world when they know full well that so many of the attacks are recorded and posted all over the internet?

Or is there more to it? Like, maybe they're trying to goad the west into military intervention? I can't understand why that would be, since they would likely be summarily curb-stomped by any US/EU coalition.

I just don't understand it. What makes Ukraine so fucking necessary that you'd be willing to kill civilians, sacrifice the future of your country, and turn it into a pariah state in pursuit of it?

And please don't pin this on Putin alone. He has enablers and supporters in his circle. What's in it for them? They can't all be operating strictly out of fear of him. He's one man. If his circle of trust wanted to close in on him out of a sense of self-preservation, they could. So why don't they? What do they stand to gain from this?

The fact they had to have a referrendum and their democratically elected devolved parliament wishes to separate from England shows their grievances are genuine and not down to "brain washing children". I would wager it has more to do with not wanting to be governed by the English tory party they do not vote for nor share basic values with.

English nationalists have no sense of hypocracy : "leave EU take back control! The rest of you stay in uk we are stronger together! don't consider yourselves a country you are just part of the uk!"

The reaction of the world is irrelevant to Putin. Like they have been doing for years they will simply say it's a false flag and it will be believed by the Russian public (who get no other info), most of Asia (who hate the West) and a disturbing number of people in the West.

Inflicting suffering on the Ukrainians also will secure his position in Russia as people see their own hardships as a necessary sacrifice to ensure the enemy suffers more.

When you say attacking civilians do you mean the stuff like in Bucha, where people were just shot dead in the streets? In regards to that sort of stuff, I really don't think Putin or any of the people in positions of power actually want that to happen. Of course they will try to fabricate stories about why it's all lies, because they aren't going to come out and say "Yeah our troops are just killing civilians". But the actual act itself doesn't benefit them in the slightest (which is why you are confused, I'm guessing). They already controlled those towns. Russia would much rather post videos of them giving food and shit to civilians they "liberated" than have to deal with this.
But not every soldier in Ukraine is cut from the best cloth. You have mercenary groups known for their reputations. You'll have men in the army who are psychos and just wanted to shoot people. There are going to be a lot of people, who are probably out of their minds from the stress of not knowing whether you'll be killed the next day or not, who have been through intense battles where many men they were with were killed. There is a lot of talk about the super low morale. I think this leads to situations getting out of control.
I wouldn't be surprised if the higher ups didn't even realise there were all these bodies just lying in the streets when they ordered the pull out. You'd think they would've tried to hide the evidence if they know, because otherwise they're basically just asking the west to put on more sanctions, and give Ukraine more military support.

If you are referring to things like intentional shelling of residential areas, hospitals, schools, etc. I just think this is an unfortunate reality of war. Where do you think the Ukrainian military is located, basing their operations out of? It's not going to be some obvious military base sitting out there. Might as well paint a target on it and ask the Russians to bomb it. You have to hide it. Well, how do you hide a military base in a city? Same with air defence and other systems. Russia doesn't care about collateral damage if it means destroying the enemy.
Even aside from the military targets, the more infrastructure you destroy, the harder life is for the enemy. That's more people displaced that need to be taken care of. That's less economy. Less roads and railways to move people around. What happens when you destroy a hospital? People still need to be treated, so it's just adding more stress on the government, on the systems in place. Etc.
There is a logic to these sorts of tactics. In fact, Russia can't really win the war without employing these sorts of tactics. It takes a considerably larger amount of troops than your opponent to invade and take something, otherwise. The troop counts in Ukraine are at best 1 to 1, so they have to rely on firepower.

Apparently Kadyrov's goons tried to kidnap children from an orphanage.

"We quickly got inside, but unfortunately, the children were not there," he said. "We saw two nurses crying, and children's beds were still warm, but no children were there."

The mercenary told Kadyrov that they were "just a few hours late" and that Ukraine's security services, "under the guise of the Red Cross," put all children in buses and relocated them to Kyiv.

I'm sorry but this makes zero sense given it's been Putin's playbook for 20+ years. This is by design, it's not an accident. You seem to know this yourself later on in the post:

There is a logic to these sorts of tactics. In fact, Russia can't really win the war without employing these sorts of tactics. It
You're right in that Putin sees a logic to these tactics. He cares not one whit for the international condemnation and the pariah status he's given to his nation, much less for the innocents whose suffering and death he's caused. That's why this sort of heinous, evil brutality is a feature, not a bug.

Likely true, but hugely short sighted.

Loading a tank gun may seem easy but doing that efficiently in a cramped space full of moving parts that will rip an arm off in a second is not simple.
Ukraine has at least an order of magnitude more potential soldiers than they can actually utilize at the front, and probably 20x as many as they can logistically support with arms and ammunition. A division or two of men going overseas to train on equipment that will end the war when deployed will have not diminish Ukraine's ability to fight, as the alternative isn't to have them fight on the front lines, the alternative would be to have them in training camps or civil defense forces in western Ukraine. When you are mobilizing for an existential war, you don't just plan for next week, you have to plan for what happens if the war drags on for months, or god forbid, years.

That means everything needs to be on the table, even if we think the war might be over before it's ready.

Also a tank is designed to be used by a high school graduate with ~6 months of training, it's not a mystical piece of arcana that Ukrainians will struggle to understand. Fighter jets are more of an issue there, but even then, I'd bet you could develop an expedited training program that brings Ukrainian pilots to the level where they are more of a help then a hindrance within months instead of years, especially if they have prior experience.

HE RISKED HIS LIFE TO FEED HIS FAMILY: A 14-YEAR-OLD BOY UNDER SHELLING IN BUCHA GOT FOOD AND WATER FOR HIS FAMILY

The child was forced to take risks so that the family could survive.
They tell him that he is a hero, but he is embarrassed. 14-year-old Sasha Gutsal from Bucha, under fire from Russian fighters, walked around the city every day in search of food and water. The family sat out the occupation in the basement. The father constantly strengthened the makeshift fortress and kept the defense, and the mother looked after the smaller children. So the boy took upon himself the salvation of his relatives from starvation.

This is stated in TSN .

Alexander hugs his 14-year-old son to his chest. Sashka calls his own hero, because it was thanks to the boy that the family survived without dying of starvation in the basement. “I set up my roadblocks from wheelbarrows, from metal, from bars, so that this bastard wouldn’t get to us,” the man shows his basement.

The Gutsals and three dozen other residents of Bucha moved here on the very first day of the Russian invasion. The temperature here sometimes barely reached 8 degrees. To keep warm, they clung to each other on damp mattresses.

But the worst, they say, began when the products ran out. While dad was strengthening the basement, together with other people he was looking for food in local stores looted by the invaders. “I chose bread, there were livers such that they are based on bread and cheese,” the boy says.

He made his way past the ambush of the invaders, often under fire. Sasha was afraid and could not help but leave, because two younger brothers and a sister constantly asked for food. “Afraid, who knows what they have in their head. They do come with machine guns. They think that they are the most formidable,” says Sasha.

Then darkness reigned in the basement, the water also disappeared. The communications were bombed by the Russians. Sasha found a well and every day he went to draw water. And somewhere very close, the occupiers were shooting.

Aunt Ira - this is how Sasha affectionately calls the woman who shared water from the well. People from everywhere still converge to it, because there is no other well nearby. And the centralized water supply has not been resumed yet. Then the boy, risking his life, under shelling, carried a valuable load so that his mother would cook food on the fire. Elena was waiting for her son and was very worried about him. “We heard every bang, but I have less, I won’t leave it,” the woman says.

The family had nowhere to leave Bucha, and they were afraid that they would be shot. Just a few steps from their hideout are three fresh graves. In one of them, a neighbor killed by the invaders was buried.

And the Gutsalyuks themselves got it. At the end of February, the orcs got into a nearby high-rise building. Therefore, in the basement where people were hiding, windows flew out. That no one was hurt is said to be a miracle. And one evening, rashists began to break into the basement.

“They ripped out this door, tried to knock it out - it didn’t work. They left a grenade - they banged, broke through, and went along the corridor, ”the people say. They knew that there were children in the basement, but this did not stop them. 5-year-old Yegorchik still cannot get over the shock.

The Gutsalov's apartment survived, but there is neither electricity nor water. So don't be in a hurry to move. Volunteers bring food. And Sasha, as always, goes to Aunt Ira every day for water. He does not consider himself a hero and is very shy. He says that he does not need praise for helping the family survive. But he dreams of a big private house. But he really wants the war to end. And his friends returned to Bucha, whom he had not seen for more than a month.
