S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl |OT|

this mod is pretty aweosme. im using it now. it looks great.

im getting 20-30fps with reccomended settings with a Radeon 4670/Athlon 4000.

not sure im digging some of the midi harmonica tunes, but so far the extra noises are really cool.

going to patch and play more.

So I made it inside the Chernobyl NPP - But the battles previous to this have all but destroyed my protective suit. Should I just load back before taking out the scorcher(that's my last save) and try to get more armor? It seems impossible to make it through the NPP without rad protection, and I can't see any armor in the NPP.

That graphical mod is pretty. Shadow of Chernobyl is sitting on my desk waiting for me to sink my teeth into after I finished Clear Sky a couple of months ago.

I can't wait to see what it looks like in motion.

the Stalker Complete mod is awesome guys.

its not just a graphic overhaul. it has more ambient noises and music (that midi crap i posted about above seems to be gone entirely), slightly tweaked ballistics, weather effects, weapons skins, sleeping bag, etc. lots of detail. and lots of changes that arent really made clear in the release notes. gameplay is noticibly different from vanilla, but not drastically so.

performance is pretty damn good too, though there are times that it dips severly when loading some new large areas that you havent been too. but that clears up pretty quickly and im not sure how much of that is my setup affecting things. it can also dip in the dark with only player and npc flashlights. but im sure with a better PC, this would be a lot less of an issue.

its really great though. dont hesitate to try it.

i get around 25-45 FPS on average.

there is some in there if you can hang on. going back at this point would be difficult too i think (though there might be a stash around somewhere, i dunno).

try to push on and see if you can find something. it shouldnt be too far.

That is really hot.

How do mods work with Vista anyway? I don't have a Gamedata folder. I refuse to pick up this game until I get a slightly better weight mod. I don't want too much, but I'd like to carry a couple extra guns and food and ammo without getting bogged down.

I'm pretty sure you can manually adjust the amount carried, and I doubt anyone is going to make a mod specifically for the amount you want.

I just started playing this game and half about 7 hours in...I installed the mod and now my save just crashes : /. I'm pretty sure I can just uninstall the mod and it will work but its so pretty now.

Now this is how you graphically upgrade a game via mods. It looks much better and loses none of the feel.

yeah, i wasnt able to get it to work with older saves. i just gave up and started a new game.

its worth it to play from the beginning with the new mod anyways.

Man, that complete mod looks great!

Perhaps I should just give up on my current save (6 odd hours in) and start again.

Do it!

not sure about "all", but the merchant at BAR will repair.

As far as I know
only the guy in the Freedom base repairs weapons... if you give him vodka, but I could be wrong
.

Playing this again with a friend (swap every little bit) and have the Mod installed (and patched) - it's nuts.

What a weird game... but so awesome. :)

The mod makes the game look a lot nicer and I get about 30+ fps with a 512meg 9800GTX+ & i7 4ghz at 1280x1024. Note I get 60fps at the same settings on the no-mod Stalker.

But did they make the game harder? I started a new game playing on normal. Didn't save. Went to the first battle at the barn, got shot ONCE by a shotgun out of nowhere...instant game over. Had to start the whole game again. I've played that part like 4-5 times before and I've never died at it let, alone in 1 hit. wtf.

i dunno Bebpo. i dont think they did, but NPC's can do some unpredictable stuff. and a shottie at point blank could always kill quick im pretty sure. im playing through on Master and doing ok though.

-

man doing certain missions at night can be brutal. it nakes some missions easier, but other can be hard.

i did the mission where you have to escort the scientist to the tunnel last night. it just so happened to be dark when i started the mission and it made it like 10x harder.

it was pretty awesome actually.

ATI 4670, Athlon 64 4000+, 2 gigs ram, running at 1440x900.

i am really addicted to this game right now.

Yeesh. That area in NPP where there's some 10 dudes waiting for you before the end was too impossible. I had to use a cheat/trainer...

I got the worst ending though so I'll be playing it through again after I finish clear sky.

I think I'm enjoying Clear Sky more just for the open endedness of it.. but stalker is a better atmosphere/story. Love them both!!

Holy shit this mod is awesome, I just entered the first underground level and wow. The textures, bump mapping and lighting are perfect.

The guns also are sweet and handle much better than before, also I like the bump in damage you receive and give. Make sure to quicksave alot though, cause death is always around the corner.

Does that mod fix the bug that causes the first merchant's door to stay shut? That and along with the game crashing after loading a file is one of the reason why i uninstalled it.

Yes, and I haven't experienced a bug yet besides some weird shadows that pop up in a couple spots. The mod along with the patch has made the game a very polished game so far. Seriously try this. Here are some screens:

God, I love Stalker and Clear Sky. Funny how quickly the Clear Sky thread died. It's a decent game with a rushed ending.

The Stalker Complete version looks prettier.. but I just kinda like how vanilla stalker +Float32 mod was. It seemed a lot darker and more desolate. I dunno, maybe it's just cause I played it that way first.

You can get the float32 mod to work with this:
this mod already contains comprehensive shader mod that adds SSAO, parallax mapping, etc., adding Float32 would lead to conflict. If you insist on adding Float32 to improve performance,
delete “shaders” folder from “gamedata” and install Float32, you will loose many advanced features and the look of this mod but gain FPS. Before you do that, try disabling motion blur and SSAO first

For those playing the 2009 mod at a framerate lower than 60, does the game handle lower framerates a bit more gracefully at this point? One of my biggest problems with the game (tech wise) was how choppy the game felt when it dropped below 60 fps. Something like Crysis generally ran slower than STALKER, yet it felt MUCH smoother at lower framerate. STALKER starts to judder pretty bad when the framerate is below 60. Vanilla STALKER is pretty much a solid 60 with some drops here and there, but I suspect this mod will lower performance a bit and I'm hoping it won't feel like dogshit when it does.

I don't know smooth it'll be, but I can tell you shit about improving your fps. Your best bet Dark is doing what I said above and deleting the shader folder and installing Float32.

There was somebody on the comments section who had a Mac Book pro (8600 GT 512mb. 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo w/ 2gb of system ram) and attempted to run this. He doesn't specify the resolution(s),but on Vanilla Stalker he got 60 fps+. However, one he jumped to this mod his frame rate dropped down to 10-15 fps. Once he followed the advice and swapped to Float32, his frame rate went back up to a 'solid 30fps' fps and fell to the 20s when under stress.

So yeah didn't answer your question but hopefully thats useful.

I know exactly what you're saying; I had this exact problem with Clear Sky. I'm not familiar with the mod, but it took a bit of tweaking with the settings to get back to around 50 fps. I have a top of the line machine, too (I can run Crysis on High @ 1680 x 1050, 4 AA). It's just a janky game...but I love it.

Help:

I want to run the 2009 mod, I follow the instructions carefully, then it asks to replace the "gamedata" folder with the 2009 mod one.

Problem is I can't find a "gamedata" folder no where in the game's main directory.

I'm running on W7 RC1.

The gamedata folder by default doesn't exist, saying to replace is most likely for users running mods already. Just stick it in the STALKER folder, edit the .ltx like it says, then search for STALKER-SHOC and edit the final thing it says to do.

also, if you're using the Steam version, your stalker-shoc folder is under Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents, for some annoying reason. dont use the other folders you find in your normal Stalker folder.

there is also a fix for that shadow bug cat in the hat was talking about.

its in the documentation somwhere (or in the comments on the blog).

Thanks, I got it working.

Unbelievable mod! The guy/team who's behind this can never get enough credits. Fantastic job.

I hooked the game up with my HDTV, on 1360 x 768, all settings on max. Looks stunning. Getting 40-60 FPS

Back to stalking. :D

I installed the mod myself and am seeing a weird shadow bug (which, now that I remember, occurred with vanilla STALKER as well). Basically, along the left and right side of the screen there are weird shadow artifacts. Occurred on both my old 8800GT and GTX260. Any clue how to fix it?

Here's an example...

Flashlight, armor with night vision, or just sleep until morning.

I think nights are amazing in this mod. Sunsets/sunrises are absolutely gorgeous, and the AI improvements are really something. Using night vision i attacked the bandit base in the Dark Valley with a silenced weapon and easily took out the entire group outdoors without being found. Stealth is a much more viable option this time around, you just gotta use the night to your advantage.

Sadly there is no fix yet, i'm almost done with my playthrough and its still there every so often

If you would actually read the readme.txt you would see that this is a known bug and there is a very easy workaround for it.

try this:

- if you experience "shadow glitch", where shadow artifacts are following you around, go to "user.ltx" and make changes to these lines:

r2_sun_near 20.

r2_sun_near_border 0.8

havent tried it yet myself, for some reason. i do get the shadow glitch as well.

thats the point. ;)

the solutions are: flashlight (helps somewhat), nightvision (better suits have better night vision. the lates suits have AWESOME black and white night vision), and knowledge of your surroundings (which can be hit or miss in the dark of course).

alternatively, before you are about to start a tough mission, you can use the sleeping bag and wait till morning.

you get used to it.

i actually like it, and like i said earlier, it can be very usefull for some mission (like when you have to sneak into buildings and recover stuff).

good luck.
