Here's how the study did it.
Gentlemen, if you’re eager to see how you measure up, you’ll need to follow the same measurement procedure used in the study. All length measurements were made from the pubic bone to the tip of the glans on the top side of the penis. Any fat covering the pubic bone was compressed before measurement, and any additional length provided by foreskin was not counted. Circumference was measured at the base of the penis or around the middle of the shaft, as the two sites were deemed equivalent.

Nah. They looked at the results of 17 other studies. But you the funny thing about penis studies? On most of them, the measure is done by the subjects themselves. I think the real average is even lower than this study claims.

Did they measure from the top or underside? And how hard did they press the ruler/tape into the base?

Either way, I'm feeling pretty good right now, would've def. thought average was higher.

I never thought of myself as being huge and I just measured by boner a few days ago and apparently I'm in the 95th percentile. I doubt that. If that's the case why is my penis not bigger than those huge guys that do porn? Are they the 1% ers? I guess they must be.

There are lots of reasons why numbers vary, from self measuring to different measuring methods (from base, balls, whatever). I imagine this study accounts for both?
