Sega needs to make a new console because there are a large number of nostalgic fans

Unlike Atari, which made its return to consoles in 1993 after spending half a generation away from it, Sega has not yet made its return and many generations have passed.

However, Sega has something that Atari from 1993 never had, which is a legion of die-hard fans. Modern Sega also has dozens of tested franchises capable of sustaining its business (Valkyria Chronicles, Metaphor, Persona, LaD, Sonic, Bayonetta, Alien, Total War, PSO2, Border Break) something they didn't have before, the luck of a Sega console depended on Sonic, today if a Sonic is bad in sales there is Persona to cover.

Arcade board Sega Alls (Amusement Linkage Live System) a good design for a Sega console would be the middle ground between this case and the Saturn.
vertical console has no Sega DNA.

I've been observing the direction of the industry for a while now and it's undeniable that fans of Sega consoles have become more active in remembering the company's past failures. Yes, a new console is needed, we are alive, Sega is making a profit, they cannot want us to play Sega Genesis until the end, that is not the attitude of a company towards its fans.

If I may say so, it's worth it for Sega fans to protest in front of the company's headquarters to change this reality and draw the company's attention to our cause.

Yes, Atari went bankrupt but we can't compare it to Sega which has the Pachinko market to cover a possible flop. But honestly I doubt it will flop, it's impossible to sell less than 5 million year by year.

Their last console sold 9 million lifetime - same as the generation before. Prior to that, was the 32x which didn't even sell one million.

Honestly, it's a miracle Sega lasted as long as they did.

Why would they do this? They would have to steal market share between Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox (including them for the lulz). They're doing just fine as a third-party publisher. They shouldn't risk bankruptcy for this. And they would be risking bankruptcy because the only way they could jump back into the console arena would be to hire the talent, and then to stun the masses with something highly innovative. There is way too much risk to entering the console wars, especially when multiple consoles are already heavily established.

They need a financial backer though(Amazon)

Industry needs more than one solid console and a hybrid.

While if be happy to see a switch for older kids. Really, teens. Do what nintendont. It would need to be executed flawlessly, though. Has to play fortnite and the rest better than switch and Sega plan for making a large chunk of their money through mtx. Can't afford to make existing franchises exclusive, either. They'd need to start up a few new games that trt to compete with what nintendo has on the switch.

That would be neat but it's never gonna happen.

It doesn't sound impossible a console more powerful than the Switch 2 would do this role.
the big problem is GTA, I'm sure Take Two wouldn't port it, that's the real advantage of the xbox, even if the brand is in decline.
When talking about SEGA, passion counts, those who don't like the brand will always see the glass as half empty (this means that Sega is never capable of anything) but those who are fans will see the glass as half full.

I hear Elon is in the market for starting a new video game company as another one of his pet projects/ money sinks. He could instead just buy Sega and then release the Sega Galaxia: a console that plays every Sega console and arcade game ever made.

Imagine the possibilities - The Sega Galaxia: Elon Musk Signature Edition

More people post online how they loved the Dreamcast starting ten years after it failed than people actually bought one.

Honestly, it's a miracle Sega lasted as long as they did.

People love to beg for things that they have no intention of buying and know others won't buy.

People are aggrieved over Dreamcast over 20 years later and Sega is a complete shell of its former self. They don't make nearly as many games, no arcade foundation, no foundational IP...

It would be a disaster.

It's a good idea, a more adult Switch and I agree that at least Atlus games would remain muliplats.
But I need to point out that Sega wouldn't do that, they would probably do a re-entry with cutting-edge hardware never say never, give it time. :messenger_sunglasses:

They can't really make a console and keep being a third-party publisher at the same time. I don't think most of their IP has enough loyalty that people wouldn't simply give up playing their games if they were pulled for a new machine. The few who would follow for Atlus alone are probably not enough. If they had 2 more Studios (different genres) like Atlus however they could conceivably pull it off.

But if Sega does this by chance, please launch with Phantasy Star 5.

If you want nostalgia:

I'm not that kind of fan. I want new successes and new failures but it needs to be something new.
Don't ask me how I came to this conclusion, but I believe we're at a stage where all that's left is for Sega to make something they're doing public.

Do they even have the capital anymore for that. They’re barely even a competent publisher anymore.
Yes they do, it all depends on the project.

People are very mistaken in linking the appearance of games with the company's capital. Sega looks bad as a publisher because after the failure of AAA IPs in the xbox 360 gen they decided to focus on creating a base in Japan, for this they sowed a lot of low budget games, the harvest we are seeing now, this mission they accomplished but it took a decade .

Well, I am a Sega fan thru and thru - but also realize that nostalgia can only carry it so much.
It's not only the older, nostalgic fans they need to garner, but also the new generation. And at this point of time - consoles are not that popular among post Millennial generation(s)... so it would be a very risky venture to create a new console. Handheld, perhaps - but then again, we have a lot of competition on that end, including Nintendo, UMPCs, and mobile.

Let me guess, you also want a new Michael Jackson game too?

They should make a new 2D console with 640x480 max res with 8 tile layers and up to 256 colors on screen at once out of a master pallete of 65,000...also CD quality music and Sound FX. Games should aim to at least hit The Huntdown in Fidelity and animation. All released on Carts of course.

- Who’s developing, manufacturing and shipping the hardware?

- How will they make up for lost sales on PS5/Switch/Xbox

- How do they convince people to choose it over PS5/Switch/Xbox?

- How will they convince third parties to support it?

To make a console platform viable these days you need a player base approaching 100m.

If Microsoft want to get out of the business at 30m, why should Sega get back into it when their last two consoles only sold 9m?

Can i delete your post it doesnt make sense to me. I watched the whole Music Video and all it did was make me realize race mixing was an industry prong for decades now. Opposed to sonic, somehow they manufactured a legion of outcasts and thats all im gonna say
The days of Sega as console manufacture is long gone, the point of the music video. But feel free to do if you think its irrelevant.

There’s the fundamental flaw in the logic.

Big empty rooms with an echo can easy sound deceptively loud with a few people inside, but when you step out into the world those people don't count for much.

That aside, the best you could hope for isn't a cutting edge machine--it's modest hardware. Wait for Switch 2, put a Sega sticker over the branding, and be done with it.

Saturn/Dreamcast Mini were said to be prohibitively expensive, so they won't be happening soon either.
