Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | OT | Borne of Souls

Yep seems I need to get this Mikiri counter down. Need to train it now!

You can also sidestep his thrust attack and get some free hits on his exposed back as well.

Mikari is a really high risk high reward technique, if you fail the damage is really big

this game can go take a fuck to itself. i can't deal with this juzo guy.

tried getting the guy to help me but he's useless. tried clearing the enemies first but it feels impossible with big Juzo constantly fucking me up. there are too many enemies to deal with.

i'm done for today. i'll try tomorrow again.

in hirata estate. from the bamboo idol jump to the ledge on the left, into the water, past the bridge, climb onto a branch, break the bamboo at the cave entrance, consecutive jump up. he's up there guarding the temple you get a prosthetic weapon.
Man there is so much to miss in this game. Stuff you actually need to progress. For example I had no axe until the Ashina castle with these little gnome guys. It was such a pain to fight against people with shields before :p

You need his counter for Genchiro at the Castle. Without this good luck^^

Sneak past him on the left side in the house. You can pick them one after another in the small hallway and when the Juzo guys comes just run around. He is pretty slow so you do not have to do with him. When everyone else is dead talk to the npc and fuck him up^^

Use the tactic already explained. First of kill all the adds and then go to the NPC who is going to help you. With two people it is really easy to get him down.
At my first go I made the mistake of talking to the NPC first and he just ran in getting killed. When doing the Metal Gear style of murdering adds one by one and in between waiting for the stealth timer to cool down for the fat guy, it was relatively straighforward to flatten the drunkard.

Sneak up to one of the adds (you can get behind one of the shield-guys via the left side of the building that is not on fire), stab him, run away and hide until Juzo loses interest. Rinse and repeat until all the adds are dead. When starting the fight with fatty, do the same to him: stab him in the back to get going, then race over to the NPC for help who will aggro the guy, allowing you free swings in the back. Make sure to keep an eye for his side-to-side slash and back out a bit when he spews poison. He will go down eventually. No need to fight fair, he wouldn't do it either.

I have mixed feelings about sekiro. I hated it at first but i'm changing my mind.
I was trying to approach combat the same way i would in bloodborne. You know, dodging a lot and keeping my distance.
Doing poise damage is as important as health damage. Sometimes even more.
Combat is cool and brutal. I love the sound clanging metal and blood gushing.
But i think it's bullshit sometimes. That ogre had some pretty cheap attacks.

In my opinion the game is not a looker. But usually the first area in from's games are less interesting.
I love the enemy design and animations though.

The PC port is very poor. No unlocked fps (due to their engine i believe), no ultra wide and wonky controller support.

Edit: How i dealth with the drunkard guy.

Talked to npc. Charged and murdered every add. Then proceed to poke fatso in the butt until npc died. Dunkard had enough poise damage by then so i applied a fatality on him.
The rest was playing smart and using oil+fire. No, it wasn't easy and i almost died.
I died a two dozen times. I said "fuck dragon rot" and kept trying.

I think this is the problem for a lot of people. Do not play it like bloodborne. Dodging does not do much here. It is all about blocking and parry/counter If you come from bloodborne I think you will have a hard time^^

Also the ability to jump is a godsend^^

You can also deflect trust attack (And even some grabs I believe), you dont have to miriki counter them, I feel like people don't know this.

It seems that I have a natural talent when it comes to parrying. Makes me a happy soul.

I am experiencing quite a few performance issues, even though I'm running it with a 1080Ti, i7-7740x and 16GB DDR4 Ram. No idea why I'm having so much FPS stuttering/drops.

Yet to try it with some tweaks I have done. Will see if that works for me later today.

If anyone else has any ideas, please share.

Guys I can't do this anymore. I really need some help to beat this damn guardian ape.

I can't manage to parry his attacks and staying close to him is hard because he gets me then every time with his grab move.
I already tried using fire against him but the attack is slow, risky and works maybe 1/3 times.

Please help because I am sick and tired of getting gorillafucked in the bum :<

What does "Soulsborne" even mean then? I can't remember much use of grappling hooks and sneaking through bushes in Dark Souls. Admittedly I'm only 6 hours in, but Sekiro has more in common with Metal Gear Solid (minus the cutscenes) at this stage as it has with Dark Souls. The flow of the combat is completely different (there was a comparison to Ninja Gaiden earlier, I think that's closer to Sekiro than "Souls"), there are no wildly different builds to try (Dark Souls 2 was peak build variety) and it is way more fast paced than Souls ever was. Yesterday I was thrown down a cliff by an ogre, just to latch on to a tree with the grappling hook in the last second, saving me from death by falling. Souls was never this dynamic.

I agree. Sekiro is basically a game about clearing an area to fight a boss, again and again. It's not souls by a long shot. You spend most of your time fighting enemies one on one here, not traveling around.
It feels heavily influenced by other games and much more western in it's approach.

Make sure you have it unlocked lol. It is really generous since the whole dash animation counts not just the iframes.]
Yes I do, it works sometimes. But often i see the symbol coming up, i dash into the enemy and i still get hit. Seems i am too quick here.

I actually best him last night. Was a horror for me too.
I ended up running arround him most of the time and closed in to hit him whenever he turned his ass to me.
The grab attacks i avoided by jumping. The butt/belly bombs i avoided by sliding into the directing he came from so i ended up behind him to once again smack his ass.
Be aware that there is a 2nd phase though. I’d recommend watching a video to get an idea of the strategy. I also recommend learing the first phase as best you can so you have as many healing items as possible saved for the 2nd.

Does anyone who reads Japanese know what the counter symbols actually mean?

I swear down they're differrent for thrusts / sweeps / grabs and lack of knowledge is making me regret not weebing harder over the years.

They're definitly diferent. But if you're reading the symbol before reacting you're going to get hit.

The red one? It means something like unguardable Attack.

Yeah, the popup before an enemy does a thrust, sweep or grab. I'm pretty sure the symbol is different for each one and it piqued my curiosity.

But as RedVIper RedVIper mentioned, I'm probably going to get fucked up if I'm focused on reading rather than fighting :messenger_tongue:

Jump back and to the right/left for ALL his attacks, then move forward and hit him twice. Repeat. Then after a few hits use the flame barrel and keep usuing it in intervals until he dies.
Make sure you get in two consecutive shots with the barrel (with a slight delay) as if he is still staggering from the last flame blow he will get set on fire, inflicting futher damage. He goes down quite quickly like this. Well under two minutes.

I don't read Japanese but was wondering this. I thought maybe they indicate what kind of attack they are about to do. Ain't nobody got time to try read that shit during fights!

I beat GA last night in a straight up manfight, mostly deflects and dodge counters,

no tools other than the phantom kunai in phase 2 to burn a bit of vitality down.

The boss fights in this game are so satisfying.

Firecrackers stun him. If you went to Senpou Temple and finished it use
the Mortal Draw skill (other skills might be better, I just used that one and seemed to do quite a bit of damage and has the range)
while stunned from firecrackers, than keep hitting him and he'll stagger some more. Be aware that when he's stunned he might fall on you and do a shitload of damage. If I recall correctly you can grapple on him sometimes when he backs away. Use that to get some extra hits in.
Congrats, you just got half-way through the fight. Run away when he pours blood from his head, but this is a given. He does a combo that ends in a big overhead. If you deflect it you'll have time to get 3-4 hits in.

Digital foundry just basically confirmed the game plays better, and as a result, is easier when played on a decent PC.

Makes sense — being able to consistently hit your parries (because of silky smooth frame rate, and thus better input response) makes the game better and more enjoyable.

I find it extremely lame that From Software didn’t include an option to lock the frame rate on consoles — it would literally make the game significantly better — instead, we’re stuck with a frustrating, jittery mess.

It helps to have atleast three gourds, level two sword, and the breath of life: light skill (which gives you health for deathblows)

Another thing is after clearing out all enemies, don’t get the samurai to help right away first of all, and second, Aggro jouzu into following you. Take him the hallway to the left of where he spawns and just keep trying to stay out of his vision for a bit. Eventually he’ll lose you and walk off, take this as time to do a stealth deathblow. After this, go get the samurai guy to help. He doesn’t do much but atleast he helps keep some of the aggro off. (I also recommend using oil and the flame tool to stun him)

I just beat big horse general, I would say his much, much easier than Drunken fat guy and madam butterfly.

FIIIIIINALLY beat Ashina Elite! OMG 3 hours I worked on this guy. I threw it all into a video, hope it helps.

This guy was 1st try to me.
Doesn't he always go sword slice twice when attacking? I just deflected 2 times and attacked 2 times and backed all the time and he didn't even touch me before posture break. I always stay mid range watching what the enemy does and he went for the 2 attacks all the time.

This game is KILLING DSP. So, so tasty.

The TIHYDP of this is going to be savage.

You should play it and make your own decision on that.

I thought you, of all people, should understand that reference.

That would be impossible to answer as there is no such thing as a dated game mechanic. It either works or it doesn't. Time doesn't change that.

In Sekiro it works, and it works real fucking good.

Give it a go. You might just like it.

I got it day one, love the game. It's all I wanted in a From game. The same staple mechanics but with better combat and movement options.

He gave me trouble for about half an hour before I realized I could double parry (I’m so used to the more punishing counters of DS and BB) After that it made the fight so much easier.

The core mechanics are exactly the same as soulsborne.
Sekiro is nothing more than a new twist of the formula.

I'm on my second play trough and you get new bosses to fight depending on some of your choices so that's pretty cool.

Yeah I think the mask is pretty useful, but probably only for ng+

I feel like I finally starting to get hang of the combat.

They have lot of similarities but the combat is very different in Sekiro. There is learning curve when it comes to the combat in Sekiro, while in Souls/Bloodborne the combat is much more simpler.

DSP is darksydephil. He is a streamer who sucks at gaming and swears a lot. Blames everything but himself for his failures.
TIHYDP means "this is how you don't play". These are collections of videos of DSP failing over and over. I watched one of these when DSP played metal gear solid 3 and it was hilarious.

Banged my head against Genichiro Ashina for 4 hours yesterday, something just wasn't quite working for me.

Beat him first try today with gourds to spare. Had to laugh, but the age old trick works; walk away, clear your head, come back tomorrow.

I can not beat Genchiro...

His first bar I can do with no hits. But the seconds one is really troublesome for me... I can not do enough posture to get his bar up....

When I got to stage 3 I almost got him so I do not see that as a problem. But the second bar oh boy..... I tried this now for 3 hours in total with yesterday. The guy before i killed in 2-3 tries....

But Genchiro is really a problem for me.

The second bar is exactly the same than the first with the exception that he can actually do a swipe instead of simply doing a thrust when the danger icon is showing up. Otherwise its the same patterns
