So much for an 8:30 start....they're trying to figure out why the audio sounds like shit and it sounds ok on the iPPV end.

Live on Raw, WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart returns to Montreal, Canada, the setting of Survivor Series 1997. This marks the first time in 15 years that The Excellence of Execution will stand inside a WWE ring in the very same locale that put a startling exclamation point not only on his fifth WWE Championship reign, but on his legendary career as a WWE Superstar.

Bret’s opponent that fateful night on Nov. 9, 1997, was Shawn Michaels, a competitor with whom The Excellence of Execution had a variety of issues with both inside and outside the ring. The pair had memorably clashed in the first-ever 60-Minute Iron Man Match at WrestleMania XII, which resulted in a WWE Title victory for “The Heartbreak Kid” after the bout went into overtime. That match was, and still is, regarded as one of the most thrilling in WWE history, and the WWE Universe eagerly anticipated yet another classic WWE Championship clash between these heated rivals at Survivor Series, waged in front of The “Hit Man’s” countrymen at Montreal’s Molson Centre (since renamed the Bell Centre). As talked about as this encounter was, there was even more chatter about the future of Hart’s in-ring career and his impending departure from WWE for the seemingly greener pastures of Ted Turner’s WCW.

Wary of the reigning WWE Champion potentially exiting the organization with its most coveted prize around his waist, Mr. McMahon concocted a plan to ensure that Hart would not leave Montreal with the title. In a plot worthy of Machiavelli, The Chairman ordered the referee to call for the bell while HBK had Hart locked in the defending titleholder’s signature Sharpshooter – despite the fact that The “Hit Man” never tapped out.

As the new WWE Champion fled up the entrance ramp, a furious Hart spit in Mr. McMahon’s face, destroyed television equipment at ringside and, later on in the locker room area, punched The Chairman in the face. Years after the fact, Hart admits to having difficulty describing what was going through his mind in the tumultuous moments following the incident.

“When that happened, I felt they might as well have just cut my heart out in the middle of the ring and just thrown it out into the crowd,” The “Hit Man” explained in the DVD, “Greatest Rivalries: Shawn Michaels vs. Bret Hart.” “There was so much surrealism to it.”

But the surreality didn’t end that night in Montreal ...

In a rare interview on Raw after Survivor Series 1997, Mr. McMahon was candid about what transpired that evening and made no apologies about the Montreal incident.

“Some would say I screwed Bret Hart,” Mr. McMahon told interviewer and WWE Hall of Fame commentator Jim Ross. “Bret Hart would definitely tell you I screwed him. I look at it from a different standpoint. I look at it from a standpoint of the referee did not screw Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels certainly did not screw Bret Hart, nor did Vince McMahon screw Bret Hart. I truly believe that Bret Hart screwed Bret Hart. He can look in the mirror and know that.”

For his part, The “Hit Man” was vocal about his bad blood with both Michaels and Mr. McMahon for 12 years, but on the Jan. 4, 2010, edition of Monday Night Raw, Hart returned to WWE with a singular mission to, in his words, “bury the hatchet.” First came reconciliation with HBK who, like Hart, was finally ready to move on.

A respectful handshake turned into a brotherly embrace as 12 years of animosity and mixed emotions melted away right in the middle of the ring. The “Hit Man’s” encounter with Mr. McMahon was far less amicable, culminating when The Chairman deviously kicked Hart in the groin. Tensions continued to escalate until WrestleMania XXVI, when The Excellence of Execution –surrounded by members of the Hart family – made Mr. McMahon tap out in the center of the ring. Hart had finally found closure more than a decade after Survivor Series 1997.

“When I think of Bret Hart, I don’t think of Montreal. I think of Anaheim, Calif.,” HBK said in reference to their battle at WrestleMania XII. “ I think of a 60-minute Iron Man Match that everybody said nobody would wanna see – and they certainly wouldn’t want to see on pay-per-view.* They said nobody could do it. But Bret ‘Hit Man’ Hart and ‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels went out there and they did do it. And they redefined everything that this industry ever stood for.”

Perhaps the ultimate conclusion to Hart’s Survivor Series journey will play out on Raw, when “the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be” arrives at the very same arena as the infamous incident that remains a contentious subject of debate to this day. Witness Hart’s historic Montreal return by tuning in to Monday Night Raw at 8/7 CT on USA Network.

*You got that right, A-hole. Talk about a snoozefest.

Lol, time-keeper botched and called for the bell on a 2-count.

Strickland gets the eventual 3-count with a roll-up. Looked to be a good match, pity it was a slideshow with awful audio for me.

3rd match in and they FINALLY seem to have everything sorted. Really unprofessional on CZW's part, they should just let WWNLive handle all their iPPV stuff.

You know, without WWNLive I doubt this would have been fixed. In my experience, Hybrid Ent doesn't fix things live.

You know what's going to happen?

it's obvious

Punk is going to troll Bret about being the best there is was and ever will be. This leads to a Punk/Bret match Monday where Punk beats Bret within a inch of his life because Bret won't call Punk the best. I believe Punk just passed Bret in the WWE title reign so it's pretty obvious.

It's the ONLY way Punk is not cheered in Montreal.

What if he blows his nose and wipes his ass with the Canadian flag?

You sure? It looks like the dude Vickie left Edge for that lasted a whole 2 weeks before she dumped him then he got FE'd

Positive. He, along with JTG, McIntyre and Ziggler got replaced in a wackadoo episode of Smackdown by Finlay, the Hart Dynasty, Hardy and R-Truth.

I doubt they will have Bret get physical. Although if Punk kills Bret in the ring maybe he finally get Boo'd

WWNLive just announced that if you bought the live only version of the CZW iPPV, you get a free upgrade to the VOD due to the issues on the broadcast.

You're probably right but there's one thing you're forgetting that throws a wrench into your prediction for Raw:

Punk is a mark for The Hitman.

SLAM12_PHOTO_137.jpg

If Bret doesn't respect Punk for being the champion longer than his own run, then Bret against Punk. How could Bret wake up everyday thinking he's the best when Punk is better?!? Tune in this Monday at 8/7 central on USA!

Too late lol. Just finished watching the whole ppv. Excellent stuff, and that ending with the aborted Montreal Screwjob and Punk fleeing into the crowd with the belt...awesome.

The only downside was that Divas match. Why does that division continue to exist?

I don't want to see Punk beating up Bret Hart. Hopefully they just throw out Tyson Kidd as Bret's proxy. Punk will hijack McGillicutty's role from the nepotism feud on NXT, drop a pipebomb about Kidd not being a true Hart, etc.

That was a pretty good feud thinking back on it, especially when that kid in the audience yelled out, "He's more of a Hart than you are a Perfect!", lol.

Saturday Morning Slam's recall of smart people in wrestling overlooked Christopher Nowinski, Eugene, and David Otunga.

Somebody should sue.

Punk beating up Bret solidifies Punk as being a heel. Right now he's still on the line between heel and face. All of Punk's reasons for his actions makes sense. He's still being cheered despite beating up an ANNOUNCER. if he can get boo'd in Montreal, then anything is possible!

One of the few recent WWE PPVs that captured the atmosphere and the crowd really well. When your there live its actually louder than what comes out on TV. That crowd must have been extremely loud for the sound to be captured that well. Cena is the best heel in the WWE

Mmm, live Montreal crowd. Does this Raw have the potential to be as good as this year's post-Wrestlemania Raw, based on the crowd alone? I think so.

I can't wait to hear the pop for Jean-Paul Levesque's new haircut.

Y'know, the botches kinda hurt this match on repeated viewings. The crowd doesn't care though, and they keep it feeling like a 5 star showing even if it's a bit sloppy technically. I still think the match they had in August 2011 or whenever that was on Raw was a more exciting match despite being much shorter, and had the potential to be way better had it been on a PPV. The one where the fan threw Cena's shirt back and Del Rio was laughing.

Well, I preordered the CM Punk blu-ray. I also pre-ordered Karate-Robo Zarogar to make up for the disappointment caused by it

It's about the energy. I mark for when they stop the video promo at the beginning and the camera is just panning the crowd and they're all standing and chanting Punk's name. This is what happens when you perfectly book a scenario.

It was RVD vs Cena at One Night Stand version 2. They went nuts for RVD there too. It works out when they take advantage of Cena's character and the way he always wins. People get deeply behind the opponent, because that person is legitimately having to overcome the odds.

When it became available, I immediately bought the Punk/Cena MITB match on iTunes. Just that match. I think it was $2.99. That's the same moment I mark the fuck out for, also. I watched MITB at a bar in NYC, probably packed with 200 people, and the bar was chanting the same thing along with the crowd when the promo ended. Then the music hits, the crowd goes wild, the bar went crazy. It was electric.

That moment and, of course, when Punk responds to the crowd chanting "YOU CAN"T WRESTLE!" at John Cena. What a delightful prick he is.

No I get it, I'm just saying that I think the botches hurt it a bit after you've seen it 2 + times and are past the crowd energy just watching it for the performances. The match they went on to have on Raw was faster, cleaner, and Punk was way more aggressive with the repeating elbows, the running jumping knee right to the top of Cena's head, the headbutts, etc. The MITB match was something special, no doubt, but they can top it.

It was a pretty good, but I'm pretty sure that Punk feels that this is the greatest moment of his life.

Yup. Totally doesn't make sense since Punk is always praising Bret on Twitter and paying homage with his ring attire, but yeah, he'll get the boos.
