SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

It's a linear extrapolation. It'll level off well before then.
Once you've got enough data to get the projection tab working then it's not completely inaccurate. I'd expect it to level off at around $5 or $6 mil at the mid point till towards the end when it'll pick up again and hit $7 to $9 mil by the end. That's just a guess based off how these things usually go.

I mean, there is no question this will be funded. $500k in 30 days? This is a certainty.

Yes, but 8 hours into a 30 day campaign is not enough data.

I dont follow kickstarter games that often so can someone explain something to me. I'm a huge Shenmue fan but the kickstarter video looks bad and voiced terribly. Should that be of some concern or not.
It's easy to buy in to the hype but just because its a Shenmue 3 kickstarter doesn't give it a pass if its looking bad.
Being a game I truly love I don't just want a Shenume 3 game I want a great game worthy of being a sequel to Shenmue 2. Nevertheless I'll back it. :P

I like Yakuza in every single possible way more and Yakuza 5 is my favourite game but...

YOU GO CLEAN THAT MOUTH OF YOURS! Suzuki's vision must be complete, the world owes that to him.

(But bro Yakuza 5 is really fucking good)

You're not helping! Would have loved to have heard a date for the digital release.

I have a copy of Shenmue 1 autographed by Yu Suzuki from when he toured the States promoting its release.
May up my pledge to the autographed tier here.

IT'S OVER $1.5 MILLIONNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a time to be alive.

Ok, I love Shenmue. I've been waiting for this announcement my entire adult life.
With that out of the way:

  1. What the fuck is up with the massive bait and switch?
    "We're announcing SHENMUE 3!"
    *Audience goes wild*
    "... for kickstarter!"
    *Crickets*
  2. Why do the assets look like complete garbage? Why would they even show it if it looks *that* bad?

I hope they get the Cocacola license and we get a large arcade with HD remakes of retro games.

I'm not poking fun because I do have a love of this series from many years ago... but the main characters look like they were made in Unity and by a fan. He looks too Caucasian.

It's prebuilt assets. I realize that.

It's not just me that thinks both Ryo and Shenhua look quite different in the kickstarter video? Shenhua particularly has an odd nose

No its way off. Guessing just target renders. The character design of the first two is a big part of the series, along with the music and story.

Didn't they essentially say "we're backing this Kickstarter" then rolled the trailer with no clue as to what it was?

Beg for money? He's selling a product. There's a difference between "please donate" and "buy this in advance so I can find development"
We're not doing this as a favor to him but rather as a voluntary purchase decision based on our interest for the product being sold.

Assume Sony had said we're gonna foot the bill. Early buyers get access to the following reward tiers (signed art books and stuff). Zero practical difference from what actually happened.

If companies existed in a development climate that could support such a risky project, it would get published. That's all I'm saying.

Imagine if Nintendo failed and Shigeru Miyamoto was doing the same thing to fund a Mario game for all platforms.

Actually I wonder if funding it entirely themselves would be better business for Sony? They must have ways to appraise likely demand. And doing the kickstarter is going to suck up a lot of potential customers at a low $29 price point - fans that would have paid $59 for a full release.

Sony is fucked now though. No matter how many new IP or first party exclusives they bring next year, E3 will be a disappointment.

I say they're golden. They should be allowed a 3 year grace period, where fans can't complain about anything from them. Thats how epic this was.

To build hype and awareness, everyone should play as Ryo Hazuki in either Sega All-Stars Racing game online. If people see a bunch of Ryos online, that could be the sign for those that missed the E3 bird.

It's before 9 am in mainland Europe and 8 am in UK/Irdland/Spain/Portugal. Simply processing the reveal of 3 games that have absolutely no rivht to exist takes a moment.

Lol I just woke up at 7:00 UK time, it's now 7:50. I'm trying to process it all. FFVIIr, TLG & SHENMUE 3 AHHHHHH

Kickstarted opened, will pledge for this. It's a dream come true. I hope one of the stretch goals is Shenmue 1 & 2 remake in the same engine.

I don't want to be greedy but let's be greedy here. I hope Yu doesn't rush the story and tries to wrap everything up in 3 (thinking this is his last chance). With the support of his fans it should be no problem to make Shenmue 3,4 and 5 :-P This is only a new beginning Yu.

Did you miss the giant Kickstarter image in the background before they even mentioned Shenmue? Or them talking about this game being on a Kickstarter, then showing the trailer? Not a bait and switch.

It's gonna make that kickstarter goal in less than half a day.

It's already at $1.5m. This will be the only kickstarter project I have ever funded, gonna swing some money it's way in a bit :)

I am not 100% sure they are fronting money or they have some deal with Sony but the pictures and presentation makes it look like they are in bed with Sony which means no matter how many x1 or wiiu fans ask there will never be a stretch goal. This is bullshit and undermines why kickstarter is there in the first place.

It is bullshit.

It is... but you know, at this point, whatever it takes to get it made, I'll take it. Admittedly, I own a gaming PC, but even if this was announced as a PS4 exclusive, I wouldn't be upset... I'd just buy a PS4 and be happy we are finally moving out of that damn cave!

A small group of people seem very willing to part with their money. Will 2 million really translate to demand for the game?

If Sega couldn't drum up demand for the game back in the early 2000s when the Dreamcast was still fresh on their minds, I have my doubts that this will succeed.

I mean gamers clearly want it, we want it. It'll probably sell better on PC than PS4.
