You can't die before your death
SMT's Press Turn system is more punishing and its difficulty is higher compared to Persona's more forgiving mechanic. Leveling means very little in SMT.I haven't played it but isn't it similar to Persona?

I am losing fights (well usually the optional harder fights). The fights with standard enemies are not difficult. It's mainly the bosses and for sure the optional one that requires more thinking (the ones where I consider healing an option)Probably better with timing than most people if you are managing to do that without losing any fights and hardly any healing. What difficulty are you on?
Storytelling went to shit after ixTurn based battles was NEVER the reason I played the old FF games.
It was the storytelling and spectacular presentation.
Also I am stubborn. I did an optional boss, clearly above my level (one shot any of my character), and I did it maybe 8-10 times in a row till I managed to parry correctly to win. Had some death during the fight still, and I just revive them.
Please play more games.I haven't played it but isn't it similar to Persona?
FFX was suppose to be bigger too, but PS2 ended being weaker than Sony said it was. So it isn't as majestic as it could be. But yeah, at least they had ambition back then.Final Fantasy has been bad since X. Nothing can save it.
Tried playing it last year and gave up.FF12 is one of top 3 FF games, you philistines.
I can respect that. At least you've tried it.Tried playing it last year and gave up.
Storytelling was shit after FF8. iX's story was garbage.Storytelling went to shit after ix

FF1-FFX The turn based era = The golden era of the Franchise
Just watched a few scenes on YT. I was expecting something different, but it's just a buff/debuff management mechanic to make it "diffifult".SMT's Press Turn system is more punishing and its difficulty is higher compared to Persona's more forgiving mechanic. Leveling means very little in SMT.
FF never had particularly good combat. The progression systems could be interesting (particularly in the job-based games like FFV and FFXII Zodiac) but the only mainline FF with what I would call a good combat system is, ironically, FFXIII - the same game that heralded the franchise's overall decline. Dragon Quest and especially Atlus have always been better in this respect.Turn based battles was NEVER the reason I played the old FF games.

It's one thing to think the new entry of a series is quite bad. But when you haven't liked any of the new entries for the past 20+ years and you still keep coming back the problem isn't jsut with the game developer. Why? Because its one of the OGs and people want it to go back to its roots instead of the shit show it has been?
Looking at your posting history, it appears your platform of choice hasn't had a mainline final fantasy release for years, which is why you probably feel this way
It was my favourite FF game story wise than The Rising Tide DLC shat all over that legacy. What a turd of content.Square also makes Octopath Traveller, Bravely Default, and Dragon Quest. These are all games with amazing turn based battle systems (and I think they had more polished and well thought battle systems than Clair Obscur).
I let Final Fantasy die in my heart a long time ago. FFXVI is the only game in the series I didn't beat. I only played it for ten hours and quit and haven't looked back.
Not really is there, you only seem to post on anything Nintendo related
Think there might have been some confusion here
Has there ever been an actual coherent FF story? I give up on them years ago as they where so outlandishly stupid and dramatic, I just couldn't continue
Yes, this is why I have long accepted its fate. It's one thing to think the new entry of a series is quite bad. But when you haven't liked any of the new entries for the past 20+ years and you still keep coming back the problem isn't jsut with the game developer.
