Show us your gaming setup: 2011 Edition

Not so much a gaming setup, I don't really game anymore. This is my facebook/gmail/youtube setup.

Nothing beats sitting here, high, enjoying the view on a sunny day.

Initially will have my 52X2000, but the setup is sized to accommodate a 70 incher.

I'll have to check from my electrician next week, I think that's what he did but better check. Thanks for the heads up. The sockets close to the ceiling are from the back four speakers, by the way.

For reference, here was my front elevation of the setup.

EDIT - Updated pic to a more considerate size.

Excuse me good sir, which software did you use to create that picture?

You'll laugh. It's Adobe Illustrator. Have have no skills whatsoever in that fancy CAD and 3D stuff kids these days do. So I just do stuff in scale using AI.

Man, AI is awesome. Don't be ashamed.

Have my children.

That is an amazing spot.

Look almost like BC? Either way, beautiful view, I am truly jealous

I want to know more about your floors. They look like they're old, beautiful, handscraped hardwood. I love them.

Lovely scenery, but as shown in the second picture (though its a little dark) doesn't the comtemporary wood style makes if feel a little cold, my good man? Can you sit there for hours and let-time-go-by? Let's hear your thoughts every time you sit there. :)

I would love to see a clearer picture of your gaming quarters, sir.

Beyond the Shadow you settle for, there's miracle illuminated.

I should of mentioned that I don't own this, I'm renting it, along with 2 others. There's enough space and beds to sleep 8 people though.

Beautiful!

If you don't mind me asking, about where do you live?

Whistler, BC. 2 minutes ride to the village/snow/bike park and a 5 minute walk to the lake:

I would love to see a clearer picture of your gaming quarters, sir.

The house seems like it was built in the 70's. The floors would be original. Definitely have a nice feel to them.

All the rooms are carpeted and we only just moved in this spring so can't say how cold the living room floors will get in winter, we do have central air though and slippers always work well :)

On a sunnier day, I'll grab some better photos.

Most of the appliances haven't been upgraded since the build either. The oven and microwave thing is straight from the 70's. Has a nice charm to it. The original fridge was replaced, thankfully. Apparently it had a wood finish to it, blending it in with all the cupboards. The property manager was curious so he looked up how much it originally cost, apparently $13,000!

Only thing I'd really love is a hot tub :)

Ah, I thought it looked a lot like BC.

Well enjoy your summer there, what an awesome place to spend it. Hopefully the weather sorts itself out soon though, we have kind of had a miserable spring/summer so far.

@wormstrangler: Some what off topic, but do you watch the Crankworx competition at all when it rolls through? I'd imagine being able to go from gaming center to Whistler bike park in 2 minutes to be truly living the high life! Congrats to you sir!

Certainly am living the high life right now. I've been here for 7 months, have only worked 9 of those days before quitting because it was a sunny pow day.

Telus Fest in the winter, Crankworx in the summer. I bought a downhill bike this week, I've never ridden and have spent 1 day in the park so far and love it. Kind of similar to my hobby back home (dirt bikes) so I knew I would.

About to leave for the bike right now.

The location, people, parties and pot have made it the best 7 months of my life.

Moving this week. This will be the new entertainment room. Cant wait to have all of my shit out of the living room. Its probably going to look incredibly boring to you guys and rightfully so.

In terms of functionality however, I can't wait to give my speakers a chance to breathe.

Good stuff! What's the dimensions of that room? I really hope the start of the angler wall isn't too low as that might create complications when putting up an HD TV.

What are your thoughts to your plan, sir? Let us know your vision.

When I have saved enough, I'll buy another house and have a Cinema gaming room. I want the room to really feel like a mini cinema. The sound system is already prep, so I just have to buy an HD projector and house. Of course, house first.

Here's mine, not nearly as impressive as most of yours!

Nice setup but I'm just curious, why not put the screen between the speakers and put the ps3 on the side? It's cool if that works for you but I think it would drive me nuts lol.

Always wanted one too, when we moved to this place a few years back I snagged the box room, it's like 9'x9' but managed to squeeze a 100"+ 2.35 screen in, it's so damn cozy, when the lights go out and a movie comes on I'm grinning like an idiot, it never gets old.

need to do some wire management but not worrying about that now, going to be moving in 3 weeks will get it all nice and clean then

I got new TV, 58" Samsung Plasma to replace the dead (pos) Mitsubishi DLP (It got repaired twice and replaced once and it still died).

I got rid of Comcast box since we never around to watch cable TV, add a Sony Blu-ray player so my 60gb PS3 can live longer.

Everything else is the same, except moving all the 360 games into the closet (yes I am a closet SW toys collectors).

It's true it would look better like that but I usually have the screen rotated to the right slightly so I can sit on my bed and play (it's either than or an uncomfortable office chair). I only faced it forward for the sake of the picture.

LoL! I love it!

Question - how many people can you fit in your room so they can share the same experience? I'm hoping to be able to fit a total of 10 people in my room including myself.

Here's a picture of what I am aiming for when I get another house and build my own cinema room, but my version will have leather seats and varnished "black" finish all round including black ceilings and stylish blue lighting instead of those lamps. Also, the rear sofas will be on a higher stage so there will be no problems with those who are at the front, and the walls will be padded for higher quality sound positioning:

Home%20Cinema%20Installation%201.jpg

My cinema room will be DTS MASTER-HD/PCM/TRUE-DOLBY HD movies first and gaming second. Again, the sound system is out of the way, all I need to do is get that right house and HD projector. I seriously can't wait!

I can seat 6 at a push, the room is tiny but we've had twice that for some gaming sessions, it was is like a fucking sauna with so many crammed in though.

I skimped on the audio side totally, I have tinnitus and it dosen't take much to shake the walls, HD audio is lost on me. used to be setup as 16:9, cinemascope films still being letterboxed but changed to a CIH setup, lost some resolution but I reckon it was worth it for having no black borders.

Sick place, I really like the red walls and the cabinets. I've thought about getting some with clear doors.

Got a free CRT which I promptly set up in the corner of my room...with a little seat. Put a second DC to it and will make it my dedicated horizontal DC setup! Also going to put one of my Wiis on it for fun times with all my VC titles.

There's 'my' PC sat next to the TV. I keep all the downloaded media on this. So it's easier to display the PC on the HDTV (to then watch from the couch) than it is trying to stream media from the PC to the TV through the PS3/X360 (which freezes), or trying to load the media onto a pendrive, which the PS3/X360 frequently don't recognise (mostly mkv and some avi file types). This is just find the media file and double-click to play it. AWESOME!

phpwbltgcpm.jpg

There's my coffee table shoved up against the wall. Now we have an open space for the Wii Fit board to be dragged-out from under the couch into, and it's a lot easier to get up off the couch to change game/film discs without having the walk around the table. Notice the wireless mouse and keyboard as well, if I need to control the PC from the couch.

phpkk2qrmpm.jpg

Here we are, my new gaming station. Accross the top of the wooden TV unit, that's a slim PS2 with a wired PS2 controller in it. On top of that are my PS3 and X360 controllers. When I happen to be playing on a PS2 game and need access to the top-loading CD tray, I'll just move those controllers over to the other side of the unit. Or perhaps to where the TV remote is, sat on top of the TV base. Then we have my wired Keyboard and Mouse from the PC. Wired = no lag, so together with this HDTV playing the PC version of Left 4 Dead with all the settings turned to highest is IMMENSE! And finally there is a little bit of space for my coffee, and my wireless phone receiver/cradle.

I really like that tv-shelf edgefusion. A black and white combo always looks nice. :)

I also really like your view DJ88. You should upload some more photos sometime. ^_^

How good are projectors these days? I have a 1080p 55 inch plasma and I was wondering how a bluray would look on a projector in comparison with my tv. Does the picture remain crystal clear?

Just went through all the threads looking for decor ideas. I don't really have the space or the inclination for the modern setups, though I really appreciate them. Still, got some good ideas.

Also noticed:

We quote pictures way too much.
Lots of people are banned.
The Fistula meltdown was epic.
Someone has to play the rich card in every thread.
There are some awesome setups ITT(s).

Projectors with decent optics and convergence (single chip DLPs don't have issues with convergence) are sharp, yeah.

The black levels and contrast have a lot to do with your room, you'd never get blacks anything like a modern flat panel TV*, mine are more in line with the glow from a TN panel, all barring these sort of scenes I much prefer a projected image.

* I haven't seen a JVC in the flesh though.
