Kinda interesting to see how much the remake renders despite being obscured by fog. In the PS1/2 days the fog was used to obfuscate the pop-in

Love them. So this version is good? Or should I just play the original? I historically have not enjoyed Bloober team games.
Play the originals first. By the time you get to the remake, maybe the bugs will be fixed.

Edit: to elaborate a bit, I think the originals should always be played before remakes of ANY game

Depends. Did you like RE2R? Want something similar but with a more personal story with a supernatural bent and bigger areas to explore for key items?

What's the general consensus on this for someone who hasn't played the original? Would playing this one be worth it, or should I just "someday" play the PS2 version?

Of Silent Hill games before this, I'd only played about an hour of Silent Hill 2 emulated on PC before SH2 remake. I think I'm on the last section of the game now.

Survival horror games like Resident Evil, Dead Spaces, and even The Last of Us on harder difficulties are some of my favorite games.

This game is excellent and easily stands up there with those games. The pacing is compelling. The combat is desperate. The atmosphere is oppressive. It's seriously good, and I'm glad Kacho Kacho put me over the edge to buy it this past weekend.

Just got out of the hospital. Was not expecting how that ended 😮

It’s amazing how even being back on the streets, the level design retains the engagement because now different streets are blocked off etc so you’re still being funneled around, but in a completely different way. It’s just so goddamn good.

So, I've played the original SH2 and 3, I'm not an hardcore fan, not even close but I do think I prefer this version of the game.

I never found fixed camera games to be scary, OG SH2 had great atmosphere that's for sure but not once I remember getting scared, but in this remake I've already gotten jump scared at least 4 or 5 times, and the fucking dark ambient soundtracks coupled with the near complete dark hallways keep me constantly nervous and alert.

As a horror game this version is the superior one for me without a doubt.
Enjoying the story so far but I'm only at the hospital so the jury is still up on that.
The voice acting is also miles better in the remake, it's not even close.
Lastly, I did not enjoy the change they made to Maria's outfit, considering what it means to the story and all but I'm not brain rotten enough yet to completely disregard a game because of something like that.

Overall I'm really enjoying it so far, even more so considering I was one of the doubters that did not believe this game could actually be this good... having seen the awful trailers and all...

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Still waiting on GAME to deliver just the game.
They really fucked up this time, this maybe their final nail.
It's amazing, some got the game last week delivered from other retailers but GAME can't even manage release day.

Completed the game and got the first 3 endings.

11/10. Masterpiece.

I’ve gushed about the game enough in this thread. Favorite horror game, and now in my top 5 games ever made.

The best shit this medium of entertainment has to offer.

They need to do a HBO show of this. One season. 13 episodes.

I find myself very much enjoying Maria this time around. She was never offensive in the original, but I like her so much more in the remake. Same goes for Angela. The characters in this game feel much more fleshed out. Laura still pisses me off though. I understand what they are doing with her same as in the original, but she still annoys me.

The pacing has been nuts. Storm to safety of the apartments to shit going downhill to encountering Pyramid Head to Otherworld introduced to full Tower of Latria level design to finally boss fight and release into bright streets.

Whoever called these areas dungeons is right on the money. The upgrade in level design and gameplay is shocking. I was impressed before but that took it to a new level.

busy with school right but can't wait to play this. the feedback in here is HYPING ME UP BROSSSZZ
I went from being skeptical and outright dismissive to kicking my own ass. New Maria hasn't sold me, but that's my only fault but she's growing on me. This is BORDERLINE the best survival horror remake since RE:Make I can't believe this!

If you hate it, stop lying to yourself, this is the best case scenario for Silent Hill 2 and those extra years of development show

Made it to the Historical Society. This is legit one of the best Survival Horror games I've ever played. Bloober really did the original justice, and created a great game to introduce new fans to the series. Any reviewer who gave this game less than an 8 is outta their damn mind. That Guardian review should be flushed down the toilet. In terms of it's presentation, the visuals, the music, atmosphere, ambience, and sound design, and how it all gels together, this game is a goddamn work of art.

Not sure if anyone else commented on this or not, but the way they use the Dual Sense in certain ways is very unique. One that really surprised me is when you go into a room and a radio is playing. They make you feel the music in your hand. Even crazier, if you place the grips up to your ear, they are actually using the haptic feedback to play the music.

i never felt those fights being so intense back in ps2 days, now its just if one of those jumps on you , you need to have a drink right away i mean its harsh keep walking slowly and searching all places to get those drinks . but feels amazing that sound , music , specially playing it in dark late at night with headphones wow. and i suck aiming properly with gun so using too many bullets most times just adds to that intense feeling , more like in real life. just playing game like some shooter one hit kills would be not authentic. here its like you not aiming stright you missing your hands shaking camera shaking , you cant look right way, and those extra animations when character like in fear are amazing, just those small extra details that adds to fear. or breathing when hes like stressed and such. all done very well. smashing windows in cars looking for loot is amazing.

They bloated it too much and didn't add anything in the gameplay department. In result it become stale and boring in the second half. 3 types of enemies and 3 types of weapons with the gameplay as basic as you can get is not suited for the 15 hours playtime. Should have aimed at the original's length.
And the later part of the game is an annoying slog to traverse with crowd of mannequins behind every corner.

Can we talk about the fog?
People are saying how good it is, but it's really not right at all. Half the time it's just this circle of fog surrounding you that simply disappears completely as you move towards it. That's not how fog works.

Also, there are all these leaves and shit blowing around while at the same time there's thick fog just hanging in the air? Is there wind or isn't there? You can't have both. If there's enough wind to blow leaves around, the fog should be blowing around as well.

The fog is a defining feature of Silent Hill. I really don't think they've done a good job of it.

Anyone got their copy from Amazon? I preordered the game it hasn't arrived yet and they have responded that it is out of stock and they can't give a delivery date...

The combat feels decent in open spaces but in very small corridors and rooms it feels pretty clunky, hopefully i get a gun soon because placing ranged enemies on extremely narrow corridors with no room to dodge is some bullshit :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I do like that the bi-torso dudes hide in the rooms to make you jump scare and even change placement if you die or reload the save:lollipop_squinting:

Same with Amazon, either they fucked big time, konami didn't print enough copies, they didn't expect it to sell that much or a combination of all of them.

What's fascinating about playing this remake (and remakes in general over the past few years) is just how much I forgot. Sure, there are key moments that are crystal clear in my memory but most of the stuff in between when combined with all the new stuff makes it feel like I'm experiencing the game for the first time lol.

Progress tracker says I'm at 72%, unless it completely drops the ball I feel comfortable saying now that's it's an instant classic (of a remade classic!) and one of the best offerings the genre has ever put out. Having said that, I don't think it's on the level of RE4R though it's arguably "better" than RE2R. Ultimately a lot of this subjective and I'm an OG fan of both franchises so fingers crossed this is the beginning of a Silent Hill revival, a series dormant for far too long.

I will also say that SH1 is a much scarier game overall and I hope to God Bloober gets to remake that classic in the same vein. SH2 is unnerving and tense at times but I never felt that sense of fear. To be fair, very few things actually scare me lol but I was hoping it might get under my skin more. Then again, time/age/experience undoubtedly play a part, could be that if they do give us SH1 and I won't find any of it scary anymore, who knows.

Anyway, back to it, need to wrap this up before Metaphor arrives tomorrow, successive playthroughs and quest to plat will most likely happen on Pro😄

As per game lore, it is not fog what's in Silent Hill, but dust ashes.
