SimCity modded so it can be played offline indefinitely + editing of highways

Hah, looks like he's digging in here.

John, original RPS article author, is digging it too:

LOL

...he's being serious, isn't he?

It's good practice for people who want to work in pr. Its not about being honest, but about deflection and perception. Unfortunately for AG, he isn't very smart and he is supposed to be some kind of journo, and it looks like he is shitting on his own reputation. Wainwright & Gies, they sound nice together.

Oh come on, Gies is openly being a dick to people, and a bunch of these Maxis people openly lied about how their product works. I don't think they need to be treated like delicate flowers. Nobody is saying shit about their dead grandmothers or their children. When you try this stuff with a storied franchise, it can go either way. That's the risk they took.

Gies is a dick and Walker is currently dealing with him, so I'm fine there. No need to pile on and really he doesn't deserve the attention.

As far as Maxis openly lying, that's tougher. I don't want to imply malice on everyone, and being a shitcock to them on Twitter isn't helping at this point. There are lots of smart folks who very well could disprove EA/Maxis' statements on offline, but we're not quite there yet. Absolute arguments right now aren't helping much. Maybe the Lucy lady sucks and needs to be fired, but all we know is the public face of this thing.

I'm in almost absolute agreement with everyone's stance on the game, but I don't think the tone of this mob (EA/Maxis is evil and is outright lying) is helpful. This isn't a GAF thing nor is it directed at anyone in particular here, but I just needed to say how uncomfortable I am with the personal venom this thing is taking on. Civility would be nice.

did anyone actually expect arthur gies to admit that he was wrong about anything ever

if you have ever read his twitter or listened to a podcast with him, you'd realize that "arthur gies admits he was wrong in an argument" is one of the portents of Gozer's return, right after human sacrifice and cats and dogs living together

That's like the definition of "corporate shill" isn't it? I mean, we all kind of figured that Polygon's main interest lied in being buddy-buddy with publishers, but damn if that doesn't seal it.

It's a collection of dumb-downed mini-games. None of which are especially complex or interesting to play. Instead of doing a simplified simulation of evolution you ended up playing Mr. Potato Head.

To be fair, the space exploration stage has tons of depth and really was never done before. I would play that for hours and just fly to planet to planet terraforming and exploring. I wish more games had that level of exploration and discovery.

This is amazing. I'm so looking forward to Sim City The Movie.

Also, seems Sim City got it's very own Durante - fixing the game where the developers are too incompetent. They should be greatful...

For all the complaints I have against Arthur, I don't think this is about being a corporate shill. I don't think Arthur is a corporate shill. He sometimes complains about big publishers and the products they produce.

I think it is rather about ego. His ego and that of Polygon for not wanting to backtread on their original statements even when they have been proven to be completely wrong.

Gies is basically transitioning from "occasionally annoying" to "biggest joke in games journalism".

Gies really, desperately wants something--anything--to actually be being calculated by some cloud of servers.

Gies could not possibly be any more off base. He should really re-evaluate his stance on this issue.

I don't even dislike him as much as most around here, actually I don't dislike him at all. But this defense is crossing the line.

It's like two people are talking to each other via telephone and Gies wants to argue that ATT is responsible for generating some of the conversation server side.

It makes no sense.

Sounds like he just doesnt want to admit he was wrong and keeps digging himself deeper.

Should have kept his words soft and sweet because it's clear that it's too much of a bitch to swallow.

I've never called for a site ban before, but Polygon should be considered. The past few weeks from Gies and Polygon has been interesting to say the least.

This has become so embarrassing for everybody involved that something good might actually come out of it.

I´m pretty sure EA know by now that they are on the wrong path.
Arthur will probably know that tomorrow morning when he calmes down.

I really fully expect some sort of offline patch in the next few weeks.
