Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Why would you do that? said:
Huh, I wasn't really in to Wind Waker's music when I first played it. I like its music, but except a few pieces, notably Laruto, Dragon Roost Island, and Inside Forest Haven, it isn't anything I feel compelled to put on an mp3 player or anything. I guess because I'm not a big fan of the Irish influence.
I am a huge fan of ww irish influence we should have a thread dedicated to it.

If you've visited this page previously, you'll have read our review of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. However, while the article can currently be read in our December 2011 issue (available in print, through Zinio or on iOS) because of a communication error we inadvertently broke the online review embargo.

Unfortunately, that means we've had to remove the review for the time being; we'll reinstate the article on November 11. Until then, you can read the full review in issue 234 of Edge, including our Post Script which looks at how Hyrule has evolved, complete with an interview with Zelda director Eiji Aonuma.

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Ah, EDGE got a call from Nintendo. XD

New review is up:

Videogameszone 93 out of 100

More should roll out soon, yay!
Videogameszone is the website of the German Nintendo magazine N-Zone, I think. For reference: they awarded 97% to the GCN version of Twilight Princess and 92% to the Wii version (ironically, they said that the Wii version is superior, but they have higher expectations for a Wii game, new console and all that).

The magazine was never very good, but during the Wii era their print run was in free fall. Went down from 30k to about 15k a month.

I do a delivery job as a second job during some nights of the week, and I'm gonna be blasting the CD out as soon as I get it. People are gonna think I'm so cool ;//

?? It already went lower than that.
Oh, does GamesTM rate on a 100 point scale? I was talking in terms of the percentage scales, not 10-point ones.

But I guess I could change it around like this: I'd be happier if Skyward Sword never got below a 9/10 or 90/100 than if it got a bunch of perfect scores (10/10 or 100%) while also getting some scores in the 8s and maybe even 7s.

A consistent review turnout can only be a good thing, in my opinion. Means that most people agree on the same general rating, and lends less to the idea of hype and bloating.

Would that mean I'm gonna be on an X-Factor / America's Got Talent level of cool?

It's getting cold here now, so I'll probably have the windows up - all they'll hear are the muted sounds of something awesome coming from within. A curiosity will burn within them and they'll wish they were in the car with me. But they can't be in the car with me, the spare seats are where the pizza goes.

Ah I see. If that's the case then yes i think the lowest this game has gotten is a 93 so far (you can bet it will get lower tomorrow though).

Why would review scores affect your happiness?

I kind of wonder that myself.
Why does this game or any game's review scores matter to an individual, unless it confirms that a game is completely broken unplayable shit? We know this game isnt, so what is the point in worrying about aggragate scores?

I should start a business where I take under-the-table deals for good reviews, but not from publishers, from fanboys.

Like, build five or six websites with a bunch of fake names, get on metacritic, and take Paypal to bump the rating of a game up a point.

Man listening to the Wind Waker Melody really makes me appreaciate the games music more than I ever had before, especially Outset Island/ Aryll's theme. One of the best themes they did for a character in the series. These performances are perfect.

I wonder if GT will spoil. And if they do, how much...
Probably more than we will bargin for. I'm not watching it, I just need a score. Psht, i don't need a damn score this game will be amazing no matter what critics say.

Well, while it's easy to get invested in review scores, it's also somewhat difficult to be happy with how scores turn out, when you can't always tell if reviewers have a personal vendetta against a game (thus giving it an undeserved low score) or when they were sucked in by the hype and thus had an "amplified" gaming experience, which makes them give a rating that's too high.

Basically, I'd be happy with the idea of the scores if they were consistent. None of this "OH WOW 10/10 GOTG" and "OH NO 8/10 THIS GAME IS SO DISAPPOINTING" bullshit that arises when one person thinks a game is perfect while another thinks it's merely good. If the inter-rater agreement is high then I'm a bit "happier," though maybe that was the wrong term.

I guess I will go play some Uncharted 3. I know it had some bad reviews and that's totally gonna hurt my personal enjoyment of it but it's all I got.

I'll give you 100 British pounds to break the review scale for Skyward Sword, specifically 6/5, 11/10 is outdated.
