Skyward Sword review thread [Newest Reviews - Cubed3 10/10, GC: A, AusGamers: 7/10]

Why are guys thinking the SS reviews will come out now? There's still a little over 4 and a half hours until midnight in EST for the US

Because IGN, Gamespot etc have UK sites, so maybe they would post their reviews at midnight GMT? Do we not have any reviews from any Japanese sites, it's been tomorrow there for at least a week.

Unless there's a rule about embargo's ending at midnight EST that I don't know about.

Tomorrow morning will be a busy morning of reading reviews.

I wish it was midnight EST and not PST bleh.

I'll give you 100 British pounds to break the review scale for Skyward Sword, specifically 6/5, 11/10 is outdated.
Well, then I'll give him 120 pounds to give it a score below 7/10.

A bidding war between fanboys and haters could be quite profitable.

This symphony soundtrack is incredible. Wow.

And so a leak of the game could happen any time now, eh? And here I am waiting 'til the 24th with my preorder ;_;

Damn listening to the OST.. fuck... Zelda is the fucking greatest franchise in gaming history. Anyone who goes against it will be burned in a pyre.

Well I'm going to be up late doing work, so might as well stay til 3am. Tomorrow morning is going to be a pain!

It really is the greatest. For me. Only my opinion counts anyway so HAVE AT ME MOTHERFUCKERS.

I was wondering what character that is myself.

Well damn I don't have an extra 20 quid lying around, Skyward Sword to suck confirmed.

Wait, so it's midnight PST? That's 8am, which is perfect timing! I should get some sleep so it comes sooner.

My life currently revolves around review scores for a video game, and I'm ok with that.

Just got word from my editors: the 1,500 word hardcap has been lifted. I could write a fucking book if I want to.

/goes to work

Its times like these that i wish more people in the industry played nintendo games. Just a slice of these games has more creativity and care than entire games.

I remember listening to a podcast where one ex journalist went to his new developer job and shared his experience of learning almost nobody played zelda and maybe rarely, the occasional mario.

I've also been thinking about going to bed early, so it will come quicker. I might watch Deatlhy Hallows Part 1, cause part 2 comes out tomorrow. :lol

When is your review going up? Same time as every other site?

Bah I cant stay up for the reviews. :(

I tried the demo, it takes a while to get used to but wow it is so different from anything Zelda has previously done. It feels so fresh.

You shouldn't be allowed to make games if you don't play Mario.
Yeah, I said it.

Safe to say, if nothing else, Skyward Sword appears to be the type of game that causes you to look back and consider the series' history.

That you have so much to say is exciting in itself, regardless of its place in an arbitrary "better than X" remark.

Yeah, I said it.
Well, yeah. Mario is the entry exam. It's a perfect case study in fun. The Galaxy titles are the only games that have ever given me a feeling of elation. Like, I am happy just playing them.

I maintain to this day, and especially now that I have HD systems to judge this with, that very few developers "get" the reason why nintendo games are so popular and have kind of magic to them. From what I have seen, the ones that do are mostly indie developers. Lots of games have great talent behind them. Lots of games have high quality graphics, maybe even well tuned controls and beautiful music, but what they are missing is CHARM. That is something that cannot happen by accident. There is something subtly brilliant about how Nintendo injects it into games. Something that the other developers, aside from Sega havent really nailed down.

What if the game gets 9.9? Would people start bitching about how the reviewer didn't want to give the extra decimal too?
Your thoughts are clearly biased if you think any reviewer would rob it a 10/10ogmyhod

Doesn't matter what it gets.
Someone will bitch about it.

It's not just the charm though. It's the insane amount of care and attention to detail. The little things in each Nintendo game that just make you stop and go "Holy crap, it's amazing that they put that in."

There's a reason why Nintendo games sell so much and are so highly rated.

Going to have to agree with this. They're like Pixar movies, or classic Disney movies. As much as Dreamworks tries to capture the magic with their extremely talented teams, it just doesn't happen.

And once again for emphasis: This Symphony soundtrack is one of the greatest things I have ever heard.

There's a reason they saved the gaming market after the crash, ALONE.

They've been in the business since 1974. They are here to stay.

No amount of "Nintendo is doomed" can change that.

How to Train Your Dragon is like the Dreamworks apex. But then you've got Wall-E on the Pixar side, which is superior by orders of magnitude.

"Charm" is such a vague, nonsense descriptor. Right up there with "uninspired" for negative reviews. It doesn't really mean anything, really.

noun
1.
a power of pleasing or attracting, as through personality or beauty: charm of manner; the charm of a mountain lake.
2.
a trait or feature imparting this power.

verb (used with object)
10.
to delight or please greatly by beauty, attractiveness, etc.; enchant: She charmed us with her grace.
11.
to act upon (someone or something) with or as with a compelling or magical force: to charm a bird from a tree.
12.
to endow with or protect by supernatural powers.

I'd go with the verb usage.

Holy shit at the Twilight Princess medley. I had no idea these songs could sound so good (and trust me, I already loved them)

Skyward Sword will save the video game industry from the dudebro epidemic confirmed.

That is exactly what everyone is trying to say though. They are trying to say that Nintendo games (like Pixar and Disney classics) have something in them that others just lack, something intangible, and indescribable. What is the word for that again?
